You forgot losing billions in tax revenue that could be used for oh I don't know, education, infrastructure, other actual tangible useful things.  But of course that's not important, only owning the libs is.  The state is is disarray, other companies taking note but hey at least a few people from CA didn't move there! And hey, not like the cost of living in florida hasn't doubled in the last year with insurance rates skyrocketing and insurance companies leaving the state, at least he owned the libs!

The cost of living is only up in Florida? Damn you Desantis, you tyrant!

  • You live in Florida? I do. Things are getting worse here, and they were already bad before I got here. You had basically a center right political system (*chef’s kiss*), crime was an issue but it

Yeah, the cost of living in Florida skyrocketed in proportion to other areas.

Florida used to be not bad. So long as you didn’t veer too far from a metro area, great weather, ish to do, wasn’t too bad.

In the past few years it’s gone to hell. Before DeSantis had a thought that he could be President, he was actually a halfway decent governor. Since then? Yeah, no thanks.

The only people that give a ish about woke crap are the MAGAt boomers who did their research on Facebook. Nobody else gives a ish. The cost of living is going bananas. Property values are unattainable. This place is the biggest joke I’ve ever lived in, and I grew up in NEPA.

How has DeSantis caused the COL to go up?

Probably not all that bad of a thing. It will most likely create space for other food trucks to come in and take their place.

Probably doing the same woke ish that caused SF COL to skyrocket.

To be serious though, generally the reason COL goes up is a combination of high demand for housing and NIMBY opposition to development. I would imagine areas around the Villages and similar communities are strong with this combination. Boomers are retiring and wanting to head South to a state that makes them feel validated, and boomers that retired earlier are looking to close the door lest the "character" of their prefab ticky tacky communities be assaulted by these late retiring peers.

What has he done to keep it from going up? He's the governor of the state spending his time campaigning in other states and fighting with a cartoon mouse. Oh and the legislature has been passing such important laws like hiding travel records, changing law so a governor can campaign without resigning but he's keep defending Defascist.

So, as governor, should he be fighting with private companies over asinine crap or should he be working to try and stem the issue with insurance fraud, insurance companies leaving, rates more than doubling? GOP pisses and moans about inflation and economy yet does F all about it.  What company is going to want to do business with a state that will target you if you say anything they don't like? How is that helping the people of Florida? This isn't a hard concept.

Property values have skyrocketed all throughout the state, not just around The Villages, Bill's right about that.  Generally, as you alluded to, that's a function of people with money flocking to that area.  That would tend to signal good governance rather than bad, especially when many of those moving there are fleeing bad governance.

Zoning actually isn’t a big issue here as there pretty much weren’t any zoning laws to begin with. So you have cattle farms being bought and converted into developments with a ranch house on a lot the size of a postage stamp. I’m talking close enough to where you and your neighbor could open your windows and shake hands from inside your own houses. For awhile new construction was few and far between as ten years ago you could get a decent three bedroom for around 140k. Now that same house is going for 300k. Did DeSantis do that? No, but what he did was shot any further development in the foot because with the new illegal labor law he signed the labor pool just shrunk and then the cost of labor just went through the roof.

A big problem is vacant housing. Most of the buyers here are institutional investors, who then let their properties sit vacant. The solution? Tax companies that let their properties sit vacant so you can incentivize them leasing them for a reasonable price, or them just not buying them so that an actual family can buy the house.

The big issue in Florida education is teacher retention because the teachers here are paid ish. Granted they shouldn’t be making a mint, but it’s pretty ish. So no new teachers coming on board and teachers leaving in droves. Also the state pushes a lot of stuff down to the school board level which is a mistake because school boards are always the biggest selection of morons to begin with.

Another issue with QOL is the insane amounts of transients and drug addicts. It’s gotten worse in the last three years. You can’t throw a rock without hitting five meth heads/dopers. And I say you can’t throw a rock it’s because the Fers stole it since it wasn’t nailed down, so there’s nothing to throw. Its not Portland or SF, so they’re not camped out on the street. They just live at an abandoned car wash or in the woods by a cloverleaf interchange. But they’re there, and there’s a ton of them. My catalytic converter might not be on my car, but at least I won’t step in ish on the street on my way to get to it.

also the type of boomer that moved here in the last few years are just the biggest a holes. They whine and have the biggest entitlement problems. They want the government to solve problems that don’t exist or problems that can’t be fixed. They’re like Bizarro Gen Z.

They flock there because of friendly tax laws for retirees and pleasant weather.

Low taxes enabled by the tourism industry, which DeSantis is picking a fight with to virtue single to the anti-woke base.

Governance has very little to do with it.

The wife and I briefly considered pre-retiring to FL, mainly for the weather. If anything, bad governance made us rethink the idea and we have decided not to.

Perhaps Wanda Sykes could compile a pile of **** we should all focus on?  Or would that be her career?

On second thought, I agree with you, guy named Sam who posts tons of political memes on a football message board. Her opinion is hardly relevant.

Are you actually getting upset over a comedian making a joke?

FB_IMG_1685104576141.jpg

Sam getting upset about an unfunny meme is rich with irony.

it's a joke, but if your POV is that drag queens are a bigger threat to students than school shootings you deserve to be poked fun at.
