So those "evil" scientists have found a way to figure out how our land was formed, and a big part of it is by studying rock strata. Geologists deal with this. They can tell when the last ice age occurred, and how the slabs of ice retreated, because water is an insanely powerful element, and it literally carves through rock and leaves a story of when it did so.

So, if there was a 'biblical' flood, of 40 days and 40 nights, with water reaching over 22 cubits than the highest mountain....there'd have to be some evidence of the water retreating afterwards, no? Considering geologists are able to postulate pretty accurately what happened millions of years ago, certainly they could go back just a mere thousands of years to figure out Noah's bubbameister?

Now of course, if you study any other religion, almost all of them have some story of epic flooding. Seems the Christ boys were nothing more than plagiarists.

Im stunned the bible didnt provide this detailed scientific data to you.

You trying to argue the new testament was a revision of the old testament?

That seems quite counter to various core Christian beliefs about God and his fallibility or lack thereof.

Not a revision, basically the fulfillment of the prophecies of the old testament.  Thats why he was seen as a heretic by Jews, he claimed to be the person they had waited for

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished."

At least, that is what Jesus said on the subject.

If you believe an embyro is a life, I don't see how you can say the IVF clinic isn't destroying life when it discards unused embryos. Even if they're not entirely at fault because they're doing it at the direction of their patients, they're still at least partly at fault for the destruction of life. Would a doctor who performs an abortion considered not to be killing the baby if abortions aren't their primary function? If someone hires a hitman to kill someone, would the hitman would not also be charged with murder?

In the course of IVF many zygotes are created typically from harvested eggs, then they are selected for highest chance of viability based and development.  This is even before the decision is made on implantation numbers and what do do with the others blastocyst.

That's one angle I forgot.... many of the embryo's created aren't viable and disposed of.

The median atheist knows more about the Bible than the median self-described Christian.

(That's a quote from my very religious - Catholic - friend bemoaning typical Catholics in his own church who seem more preoccupied with the trappings and social aspects of his religion than living their lives as Jesus prescribed)

The majority of atheists don't know anything about the Bible, they just regurgitate cherry-picked talking points from stand-up comedians, atheist writers and Hollywood TV shows made by liberals who hate religion.

(I knew an atheist college professor who said that, he knew many atheists and listens to atheist podcasts so he's legit.  He said it in a crowded coffee shop and everyone stopped what they were doing to listen, even the baristas.  Then everyone clapped.)

It's true. I was also there and I was seething.

Which puts them in line with a majority of US Christians.

The ignorance of Scripture is rampant amongst both camps, sadly.

It is entirely understandable in atheists and agnostics.

Christians, not so much.

Yeah I also forgot how Pet Cemetery ended.

What are all these willing adopters waiting for?

I'm sorry you had to hear that.

Yes I think the non viable or unfertilized ones are pretty straightforward.  Depending on the center there are some that are zygotes but don't quite make it to the blastocyst stage as quickly as the others that are discarded that technically could still be viable, albeit less likely. That's where there's another bit of a gray area.

Real shame. Clearly those people aren't pro-choice when it comes to eating at restaurants.

I'm more so talking about the ones in storage that have been abandoned and have to be disposed of. But either way if you are one to believe that every fertilized egg is a life, then an IVF clinic is an active participant in the destruction of thousands of lives. A lot of these clinics in states with these awful trigger laws are already having to move eggs from storage.  It's insane that people in these states already struggling to conceive now may have to deal with even more obstacles.

Not all children in foster care are waiting to be adopted.  Some kids will go back to their parents.   There’s quite a process for parents to be approved to adopt a child as well, so even if someone decided to adopt, it’s not like they sign up and get a child quickly.

Mostly just pointing out there's another stage of the process where zygotes are created but tossed.  Granted it's the ones less likely to lead to a healthy pregnancy but it's impossible to say they're all "non-viable" either.  Bit of a gray area and dependent on the clinics selection criteria.

Public restaurants are not private. I mean, duh.

Not a fan of heckling the guy when he's trying to enjoy a meal, it's this type of stuff that drives the rational people away from public service. That being said, I still thought this tweet was pretty funny.

There's nothing explicitly in the constitution preventing me from telling a supreme court justice to eat a family sized bag of prolapsed a-holes while he's trying to enjoy a mediocre $80 steak drowned in butter sauce.  This is what the founders would want.
