I may over value other teams rosters (mainly the NFCE rivals), a lot of it comes down to coaching the talent on those rosters.

On paper, the skill position players Detroit has are on par, if not better in some cases than the Eagles.

AJ Brown is better than any of their WR but Chark, St. Brown and Cephus  all have talent.  Cephus isn't a volume WR but has averaged nearly 17 and 14 YPC.  He should be their 4th WR.  Compare that to the Eagles 4th WR.  Jalen Reagor.  Once Jameson Williams comes back, that will push Chark in the slot where he plays best.  St. Brown will be WR2 and Cephus will be WR4.  I don't think I'm over valuing them at all.

D'Andre Swift IMO, should be a bell cow RB but is used in a rotation...coincidence who his RB coach is?  He put up similar, while not as good of numbers as Miles Sanders last year in the running game but he was heavily used in the passing game with over 60 catches.  Same goes for Jamaal Williams. Combined they had 1,200 yards at 4 ypc. I think Duce is a tremendously overrated RB coach who doesn't rotate the right way.  Swift should be getting 75% of the carries and Williams should be the short yardage back.

I'd take Swift and Williams over Sanders/Scott/Gainwell.

If you compare Dallas Goedert and TJ Hockenson's per game production:  Nearly identical.  Hockenson is a vey good TE.

Swift is always banged it up it seems so that’s probably why his usage is limited. He and Sanders are very similar IMO. I think Jamaal Williams is a JAG frankly. And sure, individually the backs are likely better than ours, but our o line is so much more dominant than theirs that our numbers blow theirs away.

Williams the WR is interesting. He did not look happy at all when Detroit drafted him, and Goff isn’t exactly a mad bomber. That looks like a bad union for as long as Goff is there IMO. Chark is another guy who can’t stay healthy. Amon Ra had a nice finish to his season, let’s see if he can keep it going or if teams adjust to take him away.

Comparing Hock and Goederts raw numbers isn’t fair. Hock has been the main guy there since he was drafted, while Goedert didn’t get to emerge as the primary target until Oct last year. I like Hock and think he’s good….but I think Goedert is better.

Defensively, with the additions we’ve made, we should be head and shoulders above them. That’s not to say they have no shot against us, but it would be a stunning loss IMO

St. Brown is a slot WR. Chark will be hurt by week 4, as will Swift. And our 4th WR is Pascal now, not Reagor.

Williams STILL does not look happy to be there.  He's already a meme.  Agree that a lot of their players have issues staying healthy and yea, Goff is going to make or break them as an offense like I alluded to in my initial post.

Hockenson wasn't THE guy until year 2 and he made the Pro Bowl.  I think he's a very comparable player to Goedert.  DG might have the edge but it's very close.

Sorry, didn't mean to overlook Zach Pascal who will have 12 catches this year.

Detroit has the same Oline as it did last year so I expect our improved front 7 to control the game. We were able to get 6 sacks, 7 TFL, and 12 QB hits last year. Defense should win us this game.

If things stay the same, he sees more action than Reagor...hence, he's your 4th.

Lets just hope Hurts can get the WRs the ball more than 4 times this time vs Detroit....

I know, I made a mistake.  Just being a smartass about it because I really don't see him doing much of anything.

Greg Ward was WR4 last year.  7 catches for 95 yards.  Now 3 of those catches were TD so he does deserve some credit.

I'll be shocked if Pascal has more than 10 catches this year.

AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, Dallas Goedert, Kenny Gainwell and Grant Calcaterra are all options before him...plus Hurts doesn't exactly spread the ball around and go through all of his reads.

Agreed on all that.

Hmmm...

first TD catch by Ward was with 3 minutes left against Dallas, while trailing 41-14.

second TD catch by Ward was with 4 seconds left against KC, while trailing 42-23.

this was my argument all off season about drafting a WR.

*IF* Hurts has an EPIC year, we're only going to have 300 completions.  In my opinion thats gonna leave one of the 3(DG, AJ, Smith) unhappy

I think Hurts needs to get to 65% passing this year, and let’s say he makes 500 attempts for ease of numbers. That would put him at 325 completions (Wentz had 322 last year for reference). If he can hit those numbers, that spreads out roughly to

90 for Brown

90 for smith

70 for Goedert

75 to backs, other WRs, etc. Maybe smith ends up with 70-80 catches and the extra 10-20 go to other WRs/backs/TEs.

I think that’s enough to keep everybody satisfied. If Hurts can’t hit those numbers then he’s gotta go. 325 completions would have placed 18th last year, so I don’t think it’s an unreasonable expectation from him. If I were a betting man, I don’t think he hits that mark, unfortunately.

Been a couple times with teenage boys and they loved it. If you’re there definitely take in the Exploratorium; it’s the Franklin Institute on steroids. It has excellent sushi too.

Nitpicking here, but that's way too high for Smith/Brown and too low for the rest. Brown's best year with a better QB and in an offense with less of a target share he only had 70. I'd say 75 for Brown/Smith/Goedert and the other 100 to the rest would be a massive success.

Realistically I think it will end up being 150 to the field, 70 to Goedert, the rest split between Brown/Smith with Brown being ahead.

Just now, Bacarty2 said:

So, 325 puts him right around top 15 in completions for the league, I just dont see it.

Next. Smith had 64 receptions last year. now all of a sudden were gonna get 3 over 70?

Again, my guess, Smith or AJ will have 80. The other will have 55 ish and Goedert will have 55ish. 55 catches will make one of those 3 unhappy

I think you have to figure in the investment in WR that was made leads to a significant increase in pass attempts. I agree that Hurts probably isn’t up to the task, but it won’t be because of a lack of receiving talent. If Hurts can’t hit those modest numbers I posited, then he can find a new team to play for

Anyone have any experience with dealing with the IRS?   Got a love letter from them the other day.  Apparently, in the 2019 forms, I forgot to include the 8995 business deductions worksheet and so they disqualified all my business deductions.  This resulted in an additional tax owed, plus interest and a penalty.  My CPA is advising me to write a letter accompanying the 1040X Amended return.    Anyone think that the IRS will excuse the penalty and interest?   (I am pretty confident that the extra tax owed issue will be reversed.)

Good luck with that ,  I got audited a couple years back , seem like it took forever to end . Once they have a reason  to dig deeper they don’t stop , went back to my first job at 18 , needless to say lots of penalties and interest  . They know more about you than you know about you .

Good luck

We play them week one so your comment about Chark and Swift, while likely true, is irrelevant.

Since it’s their home opener, they should have a good crowd and a long time to prepare.

In no way a gimme.
