BLG's notes (excluding things already mentioned)

Hurts threw too high on a short pass intended for Watkins in 7-on-7.

11-on-11 did not go much better. Hurts was also inaccurate on an out route to Dallas Goedert; the tight end only managed to get one outstretched hand on the ball. Hurts threw another pass to a crossing Goedert that was off target wide and low.

There was a rep where Hurts ended up checking down to Kenneth Gainwell in the flat after seemingly having A.J. Brown streaking open deep down the field. Perhaps Brown was not as easily available to Hurts in his progression ... but not seeing the entire field has previously been an issue for him.

Hurts’ best throw came when he connected with Brown on a post down the right sideline for a 25-yard gain or so.

• Goedert made an impressive one-handed grab to snag an off-target Hurts screen pass that the QB had to get off quickly with pressure in his face.

• Kyzir White arguably had the play of practice when he flew up the field to notch a "sack” on Hurts, who had drifted to the left and was unable to even get the ball off.

• Again, I wouldn’t merely assume Nakobe Dean is going to have a massive role from the jump. Edwards is having a good offseason and White has flashed. It’s been a quieter go for Dean.

Overreaction: Hurts sucks

Under reaction: Hurts stinks

So the NFL is charging you to watch on your mobile device when you already were able to do this for free? And you can only see your local market. Looks like another season on the high seas. I know the answer is money, but why can't I just purchase the ability to stream content from a single team?

I was looking into that since I do not currently live in the Philly market so do not get to watch their games if not nationally televised. So if I understand that correctly, I could watch full replays of every game which is better than nothing.

Not for the year, I figure football season is good for around four months worth will get me through most of the season.

Okay, from a pure storyline standpoint, I’m warming up to ditching this whole Hurts experiment and seeing if we crash and burn with the hippie.

I'm not laughing at you with my reaction, but loving the hippie comment. He would hold the forte down for me this season if I had a choice. I would go into the season knowing I'm probably drafting someone next year and let him Alex Smith until we got there

It's basically just a rebranded Game Pass

Gannon is a question for me. Middle of the pack last year, he got the talented he wanted so I expect nothing less than a top 10 defense

In some ways they were a top 10 defense last year -- their defense gave up only 6.8 yards per pass attempt (8th best), 4.0 yard per rush (6th best) and 92 penalties (8th best).  What they were terrible at was sacking the QB (31st) and creating turnovers (tied for 27th).  Those things are related -- put pressure on the QB and turnovers will follow.

If you are not pressuring the QB, he should have a field day picking out open targets, so It is very unusual to rank poorly in sacks and good at yards per attempt - the other six worst teams in sacks were also terrible at yards per attempt (ATL-18th, DET-31st, KC-24th, HOU-29th, JAC-27th, NYJ-30th).  So the Eagles keeping other teams to a low yards per attempt despite having the 2nd fewest sacks strongly suggests the base defensive schemes were doing fine, but that they just did not have enough firepower to put pressure on the QB.

You could argue, of course, that Gannon could have and should have changed those schemes up and/or blitzed more to put more pressure on the QB.  That is a risky strategy, though, leaving more holes in the coverage to exploit -- you might have got a few more sacks, but at the expense of giving up a lot more big plays.

For myself, I am comfortable that Gannon knows his X's and O's -- he should have a lot more tools in the arsenal this year to be able to get more QB pressure and turnovers.

Hurts will be the starting QB without competition in training camp, which is partially why I'm numb to the training camp updates and just looking forward to Week 1 in DET.  A few things to consider on the Eagles possible start, though:

1.  The schedule is an easy first 9 games and a tougher last 8 games.  It's the opposite of last season where the easy stretch was in the back part of the schedule.  The Eagles need a fast start if they intend to challenge for the division and playoffs

2.  I've heard Orlovsky and a few other pundits predict a 5-0 start for the Eagles.  DET will have the Eagles game circled on their schedule after the 44-6 drubbing last season, in a game where Hurts only needed to be 9-of-14 for 103 yards passing.  The Vikings in Week 2 have a prolific offense and it will be interesting to see if the Eagles defense can hold Cousins to less than 75% completions -- not kidding.  Week 3 has the Eagles facing Wentz for the first time.  WASH will get a bounce-back year from their defense, and they have weapons on offense.  All in all, 5-0 will be a tall order.

3.  If the Eagles are underperforming after the Dallas game in Week 6 heading into the bye, it will be interesting to see what happens.  They just don't have room this season to start 2-4 and expect to right the ship afterward.

So lets go over this cause you clearly not smart enough to keep up

Against teams below 500, Lamar is  25-4

Against teams above 500 he's 13-10

In the playoffs he's 1-3

If those numbers dont show you he beats up on bad teams I cant help you

I also dove in deeper on his touchdown passes vs bad teams and good teams.

It's ok to beat up on bad teams....

You act as if 13-10 against winning teams is bad when I'd bet you that the only other young QB with a winning record against winning teams is Mahomes.  You you not comprehend how your belligerent criticism lacks the context of his peers?

A hippy named Gardner?! I'm sold.

Yeah,  I want that guy to be QB.

Hurts is dirt.

Minshew might win a few.

Can’t say training camp has been good or bad yet, but it’s definitely starting off with a slight whiff of "we’re smarter than you” vibes with Reddick dropping into coverage, Gainwell the first team RB.

Jordan Davis lining up at DE is coming.

I really hope it doesn’t continue and is just a couple days of testing stuff out. I have had enough of contrarian coaching for one lifetime.

If they start slow, what will Howie do?

A) Fire Gannon

B) Bench Hurts for Minshew or Strong

C) Change the offense again

D) Tank the season for a shot at a QB

When do they put on the pads?

They can start next week. Not sure when they will actually do it though.

As @vikas83 would say, try being less poor and just purchase the ticket.  I don’t even have directv, but you can purchase the streaming option of the NFL ticket on any smart TV.  The thought of only being able to watch replays is ridiculous.

Kevin Allen in a landslide.

Was that Kyler Calamari contract details made public?   Or did someone leak the information about the studying clause.  Because if it was leaked, that’s bad real bad.  Regardless of who leaked it.  If it’s made public to the press, then Arizona is dumb for putting that in there.  Ooof what a bad look.

Whole thing is such bad organizational decisions. You put the clause in there and took the brunt of everything that surrounds it, which was dumb. But then you remove it a few days later because of the negative press, which just gives you MORE negative press. Damage was done, should have just moved on with it.

If I were to wager, I'd say Howie combines C and D

I hope someone leaked it.  Then they might lose draft picks.  Now race is involved bc Mahomes commented on it.  Exciting times ahead. We’re all in this together.

I basically agree with you, but once Kyler held a press conference and said it was "almost disrespectful, and it's almost a joke", I think that kind of forced their hand to remove it.
