The secondary is too rough for this roster to be top 10. Agree that it's probably top half though.

You know how I know it wasn’t revisionist history to say that Smith was better than Allen? Because I was saying it at the time! That was the year that one of my older sisters decided she wanted to learn more about football because her oldest son was starting to show an interest in the Eagles, and she wanted to be conversant with the sport. And I remember very specifically discussing with her how good Ben Smith was at that very moment and compared him to Eric Allen in a superior manner.

No revisionist history with me on this one.

Smith’s 7 INT’s in 7 seasons versus Allen’s 34 INT’s his first 7 seasons…added 20 more the rest of his career. This argument is ridiculous.

Not seeing that at all.  Also can't overlook how important LeGarrette Blount was to that team on and off the field.

You don’t think Sanders and Gainwell have higher upside than Blount, a dude who was signed from the bottom of the barrel? That doesn’t mean they will reach that upside, but they’re two young explosive backs who are dual threats. The ceiling for this RB group I think is higher.

I would have to agree, no one was better at biting of the fake and getting burned deep then Mills. He was just a master at it.

I think we've seen the best of Miles Sanders who don't get me wrong, is a good running back but he's severely overrated by many.  He's missed 1/4 of each of the last 2 seasons, he had zero TD last year...both rushing and receiving and he still leaves chunks of yards on the field by not making the right cut. His upside IMO isn't that high.

Gainwell is a nice rotational back but not sure what his upside is.  Is he a 3rd down back.  12 games last year he had 5 or fewer carries on a run heavy team.  5 of the games he had zero carries, 1 of them being inactive.  I know half of that is how he's used.  However, he did have 6 total TD compared to Miles zero.  Hear me out with this.  Could he be a Deebo Samuel type of player?  I think he'd be a terrific slot WR.  He's 5-9 201.  Samuel is 6' 215.  Not saying that Gainwell is anywhere near Deebo but could he be used in that same way?

Scott is what he is and Kennedy Brooks, assuming he's the 4th RB, doesn't offer much upside at all.

During that SB run, I would have told you that Corey Clement had higher upside than any RB on the current team.  He looked unstoppable.

Al Harris, toast part deux. Mills needs to get in line on this one

A couple Eagles related notes in Breer's latest column:

One problem, again, was the money, and to put that in perspective his number for 2022 was equal to the APY on the deal that the 49ers gave Charvarius Ward to lure him from Kansas City. Another issue? Bradberry probably needs to be in a zone-heavy scheme at this point. That’s where he’s fit best all along (he was drafted into such a system in Carolina) and, never the fastest guy to begin with, he seemed to lose a step last year.

You don’t often hear about linemen coming out of these camps, but the Eagles’ second-round pick, ex-Nebraska center Cam Jurgens, showed his athleticism, and how well he moves in space over the weekend in Philly.

Of course, linemen get judged when the pads go on. But the Eagles seem pretty excited about Jurgens, who gives them another nice young piece to pair with 2021 rookie Landon Dickerson on the interior of the line. Both guys have center/guard flexibility, and loom as important in Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni’s continued effort to get younger up front.

I loved Miles but unfortunately he's not a long term answer. Another miss there. Gainwell, to me, is a third down or #3 back. We still need a 1 and a 2. I like the Jets situation, Carter with Hall coming in as the horse. Maybe we get one of the two next year. I feel like RB can be the very last ingredient added.

Isn't Bradberry more of a Man style cover corner? If so, the signing wouldnt make much sense giving up all that cap and fitting him into a soft zone scheme. Now if he is a zone based DB, then Im in.

No. Top 15.

Skill players and o-line only put them 7/8ish. Defense and depth push then outside top 10.

Skill players and o-line only put them 7/8?????  Really?

How many teams have top three targets better than Brown/Smith/Goedert AND a top-five OL AND a decent backfield?  The offense without Hurts is top-five....easy.

With Reddick/White/Davis/Dean, we now have a top-10 front seven.  The only group that may be sub-15th are the DBs.

And depth?  Where, other than the DBs, is our depth noticeably inferior to the rest of the league?

That is the biggest problem though. You can't rate any offensive skill position wise when you have a RB playing QB.

Eagles have the best offense in the league when you take QB out of the equation. There isn't a better OL in the league and Brown, Goedert and Smith are among the best 3 passing weapons of any team in the league. Who has better top 3 passing weapons?

Rams, Bucs, Raiders are up there, Arizona

Now add in a crap load of teams top 3 weapons better just because of the QB throwing the ball.

Someone posted this earlier today. Thought it was off with certain teams

particularly the Bucs, cardinals and rams all should be higher imo

I agree Hurts is terrible but that's not the point. The point is the offense is a QB away from being amazing. And it's young

I'd take the bengals over ours. They don't really have a TE but Chase is crazy good. Their RB's are way ahead of ours too.

I put Raiders, Bucs, Rams, Dolphins, ahead. I don’t like their O-line but I think Bengals have better skill players, so it depends if you want an elite WR and two very good WRs with a meh line or two very good WRs with a good line. I also think their RB room is better than ours. Browns possibly if they re-sign Landry. Vikings, Chargers are up there. Eagles are somewhere in the mix with Arizona too. I know we aren’t including QB but Eagles players are limited so I can’t say they will do something great yet.

Davis and Dean are rookies. Top of the line prospects bust all the time. Not saying they will but they have to play at least a snap before I’m counting on anything for them this year let alone say they are part of a top 10 unit. White I think gets overrated. He was on one of the worst run defending teams in years and made tackles downfield. Sounds like Singleton to me.

And yes the DB depth currently is really bad. They can’t afford at all to lose Slay or it could possibly kill the season. I don’t know how it stacks up against the league but TE is thin. We’re also one WR injury away from starting Reagor, so that’s not great.

It’s essentially the same roster as last year - cb2 + Reddick/Brown/White/rookies who are ?. It’s a step in the right direction, but that doesn’t put last years team into a top 10 unit. Especially when you didn’t upgrade the most important position on the field.

The Rams with the leagues leading receiver beg to differ

Robinson, Jefferson, Higbee, Akers is "pretty bad”? This dudes clearly not an Eagles 2018 - 2020 fan.
