Must we remind everyone that these games have been complete abominations the past few years?   Especially since the Eagles do not like to play anyone of importance?  Every year people get pumped for these games and then by half time everyone is destroying the product on the field.

Hey thanks for your input. I’ll write it down as a reminder.

I'm sorry I brough such a depressing topic into the blog.  A little back story without too much detail. I met my friend 12 years ago during an AF commissioning program. He was on top of the world

I saw a lot of people on Twitter (mostly OL folks) defending the play, saying the QB had 3 seconds to get rid of the ball, so Jurgens won. I think that misses the point. He hopped him back into the QB’s step up zone. If no other DL wins their matchup, then it’s OK. If Reddick beats the tackle off the snap, it’s game over. He’s stuck.

Oh, Jurgens lost that rep for sure. But he could have lost in 1 second vs. 2. That one second, especially for a mobile QB, makes a big difference.

It's honestly my biggest gripe with Dillard. All OL lose pass sets, but you have to make it as challenging as possible.

Even when there’s a total crapfest going on, sometimes young guys stand out. I remember Brent Celek looking really good when he was a rookie playing in the preseason. He immediately caught my eye as someone who could play. That’s what you’re looking for. Even if the game sucks — which it will — there are things to see.

Take that AB

No question.  Other than LivePD and the Phillies, what else is there really to watch tonight?  I just don't get jacked for it.  I'll watch it probably sunday afternoon.

So bad news on the Phillies, game is on apple tv

Preseason Games are designed to evaluate individual players in certain situations, as you point out. Of course, that includes situations where the player has struggled to see if that holds over in live action.  Also used to showcase potential trade candidates. Which makes me wonder how they play Reagor and Dillard.

Note to Sirianni.

I think last year there wasn’t much except for some flashes of Milton Williams.  Also I think the first game  featured Mac Jones carving up the defense.  I had no interest after that game.

it sounds like we will at least get to see a series with the starters and then there’s Dean, Davis and some of the second year players like McPhearson.

I will be looking at interior line play and little else. I hope they run at least a few 4i alignments.

Treylon Burks looking like ish makes the AJ Brown trade look a lot better.

I think it's too early to call Burks a scrub. JJAW had a 100 yard game in the preseason his rookie year. Jamarr Chase looked like he forgot how to catch a football in preseason last year.

Seriously. But he won’t.

Should've done it after the 2nd time Hurts took off running in 7on7's. There isnt going to be a receiver open on every play so you have to be able to throw guys open. Brown, Smith, Goedert & Watkins are all capable of making contested/acrobatic catches so there's no reason he shouldnt give one of them a chance on every rep in practice. I thought it was odd that they pulled Willis after the nice gain he picked up with his legs but Vrabel's post game explanation made perfect sense to me because we're dealing with it with Hurts. No one's saying he shouldnt use his mobility but you cant be running in 7on7's dude. You should lose reps with the 1's for that BS.

That's why you gotta put some action on the game

Lots to look forward to tonight. Beyond the obvious (wanting to see AJB, Davis, Dean, Reddick, Bradberry, and White flash), I'm interested to see the freak athlete backups and Britain Covey.

We know Milton Williams can play, but how much has he improved going into year 2? Can Cam Jurgens hold up as well against the bull rush as he supposedly has in practice (the Davis viral clip notwithstanding)? Can Davion Taylor make another jump? Does Kyron Johnson flash a little bit on defense or STs?

With Covey, have the Eagles actually found a PR who can reliably catch the ball AND do something with it? Seems so, but I can't wait to see it.

Who is White flash?  I thought Nate Gerry wasn't on the team anymore.

In all seriousness I'm looking forward to seeing the game tonight.  I'll have to wait to Saturday morning for the NFLN replay.

That's exactly what I watch for, someone "flashing", making plays, the actual game is BS, but an offensive lineman stoning a NFL D-man, a receiver showing snatch, a LB who seems to be in the right place all the time, a DB who shuts down receivers.

The plays don't matter, intercepting a bad throw tells you nothing, running through clean holes, making a big play off defensive breakdowns, etc.

Excuse you?

I'll be looking for better pass defense and hopefully see them force a couple of turnovers.  Assuming TJ Edwards and Kyzir White are penciled in as starters at LB it will be interesting to see what Nakobe Dean and Davion Taylor can show with their reps.

Offensively it will be a vanilla scheme but hopefully the 2nd and 3rd team WR catch what's thrown to them and even produce some good YAC yards.

That's why I hope the Jets play Flacco so the defense gets tested from a QB who can complete passes in the pre-season but I doubt he will.  Nothing for him to prove in game 1.

Calm down there PFF.  Get ready for the overreactions to normal plays.  If that's must see TV, I'm glad I don't pay for cable.

PFF is a complete joke. I love that Vrabel benched him for running when they want him to work on passing. If only that would apply here...
