Good morning. The Saints are 2-5 and Kamara had to address the team because they're playing bad football. Kamara, who is facing battery charges, is their locker room leader.

Insane to give that up for a RB.

Hard to believe CM is still just 26 years old.  His body is probably 29 in RB years lol

IF...IF...Hurts puts the QB issue to bed over the course of the season...and the trade partner is going for a QB...and there is no elite level prospect at a different position...then that would be a great situation.

But...Atlanta got Julio Jones after that trade.  Some other noteworthy players who went in the next 5 selections and were available to the Browns at #6 were Tyron Smith and JJ Watt.

Meanwhile, the Browns diluted that haul into Phil Taylor (DT), Greg Little (WR), Owen Marecic (FB), Brandon Weeden (QB).  The 4th round pick was utilized as part of a large package to trade up for Trent Richardson the following year.

At that #6 pick, there were 2 future HOF players on the board, one with a shot, and 8 of the next 11 picks (and every consecutive non-QB) were pro-bowlers.

They traded out of an absolutely stacked top 10 and vaporized the pick into mist.

I would love to trade out of the Saints pick for a haul, so I agree with the sentiment, but we need to avoid the outcome the Browns suffered with this one.

I’ll take the all pro/HOF’er for a decade every time. Would love a difference maker on the Dline.

Hard to argue with you there.

If that beast from Alabama is on the board, then we take him every time.  If he's there 1-2 picks before the Saints pick, might even consider trading up.

But if he's off the board, there are no truly elite position-player talents, we are caught in a top 10 no-man's land, and someone wants a QB...then pull the trigger on a trade down.

Of course, I don't want to get my hopes up too much for that top 10 Saints pick.  We thought the Dolphins pick was going to be extremely high last year before they started rolling off some wins.  The Saints aren't completely bereft of talent and could start to disappoint us at some point.

FYP

49ers have 11 games left... I'll set the Cmac games played over/under at 9.5

I think they overpaid, but Shanahan will get more out of CM than most coaches would.  Fewer/smarter touches.  That team is a matchup nightmare

Or just draft a QB and add to the hysteria

This is probably wrong but has been reported.

Picks for CMC

  • 2nd
  • 3rd
  • 4th
  • 5th

The 49ers don't have some of those picks  (Schefter reporting they are Rams picks?)

This may be weird for a bit.

Looks like they have those picks to me

I agree there. He and Deebo are quite a pair of chess pieces for Shanny to scheme up.

Pretty close, those sites are never exact, but close enough.

With the NFC so bad, the Saints will probably delude themselves into trying to remain competitive this year. They absolutely should sell now.

They should have blown it up last year. Instead they traded away a future 1 when their QBs were Winston/Dalton. Just dumb.

The optics of selling when you don't own your own first round pick are rough.  That high 1st round pick is the big consolation prize for mailing it in down the stretch.

That and they really don’t have much to sell. Thomas is hurt again. Landry is hurt. Kamara is facing a potential suspension next year. Davis is a really good LB but is 34 in a few months. Peat is hurt. Lattimore is hurt. Maye is hurt and overpaid. Mathieu isn’t playing well.

All that’s left of value is Davenport and Jordan, and even Jordan is debatable because he’s 33. Davenport has 0.5 sacks this year and is a FA to be. He’d actually fit well in Philly as a 4i as a souped up Milton Williams.

Yup, but they won't. In the NFC, it'll take 10 wins to make the playoffs. The Cowboys/Giants/Eagles will all likely hit 10 wins. Then one of the Packers/Rams/49ers has a shot at the wild-card. This Saints team is not finishing the season 8-2, so it's over.

It's easier for them to sell if they can get a 1 or 2 next year in a player trade. The Saints have restructured so many contracts lots of their players are untradable this year.

They may be a year late, like you say. I don’t think their motivation will be as high this year since they don’t have that 1st.  I don’t think I’ve seen many teams tank in order to get a higher 2nd round pick.  But I suppose you have to start somewhere

The Saints need a clear out top to bottom; they are a dollar store Payton regime now and it's not working.  They won't do it, but it makes a lot sense to reset themselves and find a different approach, esp when they get so many injuries every year

I think it’s more about admitting where you are as a franchise. They need a reset. But maybe they have too little to trade.

True… I even heard a couple Talking Heads put them in the Super Bowl this year, so perhaps they too believed they were better than they are.  I was never a believer in Jameis Winston, so I didn’t get it….but many thought they still had a good roster.

Lets put contracts aside for a second....

Who do the Saints have that people would trade for talent wise.

Michael Thomas seems to be a selfish **** whos played 10 games out of his last 27

Kamara looks good, but he's a 27 year old RB with a charge pending

So Demario Davis(who I think is a smidge over rated) 50 year old Cam Jordan and Marshon LAttimore(but I think he carries 3.1 Billion dollars in dead cap lol)

If Demario Davis was actually available, he would take our defense to the next level. He's so much better than Kyzir or Edwards. Davis is a top 10 LB (right below the Leonard/Warner tier). Saints would take a 10M immediate dead cap hit if traded, so that's out.

Other talented players on 2nd+ contracts that are good are Lattimore, Kamara, Hill, Maye. Then there are depth guys like Vannett and Tuttle.

Their roster is such a mess.

No thanks

What's crazy is the Saints very easily could have been winless right now. Losing Lattimore and Roby really diminishes the impact of their front 7. Jameis will probably be back next week but hes not going to like going up against that Raiders pass rush, and as dysfunctional as the Raiders have been on offense, they should have no problem moving the ball against this injured Saints defense.
