I think the Saints 1st, as it could be a top 5 pick, could get it done. A top 10 pick is not the same as getting a 1st from the Chiefs or Bills.

In other news... Packers are going hard after Chase Claypool. Again this board thought he was amazing lol and I got crap for saying he was a JAG.

BUT^ If theyre going after offensive weapons it looks like Rodgers remains a packer. Dumb in my opinion

I think his 4 TD day against the Eagles is engraved in a lot of peoples heads.  Guy has not been good since his rookie year yet he has the attitude that he's one of the best in the league.  Going to GB might help him out though.  I'm not sold on them being a dumpster fire yet, even though the Jets destroying them at home was pretty eye opening.

I wouldn't trade Saints pick

Pass. Burns is a very good DE, but is not a game wrecker like the Bosas or Watt.

Hold on to the pick and aim for the Terminator.

Yeah.  Can you imagine having a bet with someone that says they’ll win 10 games?

@downundermike

I made that bet on them being healthy.  Starting QB has played 2 1/2 games, WR 1 has played 3 games, WR 2 has played 4 games.

I also did not expect their top 5 / top 10 defense the past 3 years to regress to bottom 5.

You win some, you lose some.  Bring on your best avatar.

I was worried about the offense, if you told me after 7 games they would be 3rd in yards and 7th in points, I would expect to win that bet no problem.

And here is a "pay it forward" template trade from 2011 that Howie would be salivating to pull off.  The Eagles stay in the 1st Round, add a 2nd Round pick and a 4th Round pick in the 2023 Draft, and pick up a 1st and a 4th in the 2024 Draft.

Sorry, Matt.  We rarely have the opportunity to get a premier player.  I'm not trading out of blue-chip range.  Maybe a spot or two for an extra pick.

We got burned by Dolphins hope last year and I do think Saints will get a few wins and push pick to 10 or so but when you combine a high lottery pick with the salary cap implications I don't think it's worth it

Exactly. There’s no guarantee that the Eagles will pick a star with a possible top-10 pick, but it’s a shot at a high-ceiling player on a cheap contract for 5 years. That’s really important considering our cap situation coupled with our long list of FAs.

The Dolphins got to face injured backup QB after injured backup QB. Unlikely that happens twice. I still think the Saints can get 4-5 more wins. Not top 5 picks, but 8-12 range. That's an incredibly valuable asset. We need a cheap player at a premium position (EDGE, CB) for the next 4 years to make the cap math work.

Is this correct? @downundermike

No. It’s not 10:45

One thing to keep an eye on with the trade deadline is that so many of the trades that are made consist of middle round picks.  Right now the Eagles don't have any picks in the 5th or 6th.  I know a lot can change between now and April but if Howie were to use the Eagles 4th at the deadline, they would once again be sitting out multiple consecutive rounds without making a pick.

One of the hardest thing to do in the last few drafts is when Howie just sits out of the middle rounds and we watch 80-90 prospects fly off the board.  I would hate to see that happen again.

I would give up the Eagles 1st and 4th for Burns but would want a 5th/6th in return.  No way I'm trading the Saints pick with how their season is playing out.  Even if they pull a Miami and pick up a few wins, that pick is going to give the Eagles a much better chance at a top prospect than their own pick.

If the Eagles keep their own pick and still have the Saints pick I would hope they use their pick to trade down and acquire future picks.

Round  How acquired

Yes I think 8-12 as well. I do wonder how the DE prospect will compare to say how Derek Barnett was as a prospect. But even if he's similar you hope that 2 swings gets one right

Just gonna toot my own horn here.

Yeah its kind of working the opposite for the Saints this year. They keep getting injured and their opponents are getting starters back just in time to play vs them. Hopkins, TJ Watt maybe, Deshaun Watson, and now play at SF who just got CMAC. That @Pitt game and vs ATL game is not looking as favorable for them as it did a few weeks ago. I still think they get 3 more wins somehow.

Anyone listen to the Kelce brothers podcast yet? It's hilarious.

For my bet that has 6 games left, and I need 4 wins, remaining games are ( bolded I think they can win )

Raiders, Ravens, @ Steelers, Rams, @ 49ers and @ Bucs.

So I need a lucky win, maybe the Bucs as they have good history.

Speaking of bets, you wanna just concede the Nakobe Dean bet and I will start avatar searching ??

People were saying he’d get a 1+.  I thought that was too much.  What SF traded is too much as well.  Carolina made out.  He’s a fragile gadget that will break down before the season ends.

I did a quick check on the numbers last night and it appears to me that the approximate value of the package of picks equates to about the 33rd overall pick. A lot of that is guesswork though because you don’t really know how good a record the 49ers will have so you don’t know if they are going to be middle of the round or later in the round picks.

So probably a very high second is about what Carolina got.

I assume they’ll win 3-4 more because they’ll get healthier on offense. Winston isn’t good so he doesn’t really move the needle, but Landry, Thomas, Lattimore, Peat, etc should make a difference.

They have home games vs Atlanta and Carolina and a road game at Pittsburgh that are very winnable. A home game vs the Raiders isn’t daunting either. The rest of the schedule is pretty rough.

Apparently according to a few sources Hurts doesn't have hot reads in the design of the offense, Siri and Steichen expect him to instead beat it with his feet

At least that was the case 2 weeks ago, and was talked about here in the blog

I'm not sure why anybody would not design hot reads against blitzes, seems like one is just asking for trouble.

It's hard to blame him if that's the case.

I didn’t think they’d get a 1, but I didn’t  think they’d get that haul either.

Getting the Rams’ 2 is low key a nice get. They’re 3-3 and probably won’t bottom out because of their star power, but that offense is a mess right now because the OL can’t pass block or run block. There’s no easy fix there.

Yup he's still living off that 4 TD game in 2020.  To me he seems like a real good #2 WR.  Maybe if he had better QB play he would be pretty good

Yeah, I get what you’re saying for sure. Think of it this way. Would you rather have DeVonta Smith or wide receivers like Maclin, Agholor, or  Reagor?

There IS a talent difference in top ten guys and guys who go in the late teens and early twenties. Sure, you might hit a Justin Jefferson or Mike Quick, but you probably won’t.

I’m not opposed to trading down for a haul but don’t get too cute and walk your way out of an elite prospect.

This is why I wouldnt mind giving up a lot for Brian Burns because theoretically we can make up for the draft capital we gave away by trading that saints pick back from 5ish to 15ish

Now that the CMC deal is done, for fantasy football purposes, hoping Cam Akers ends up in Buffalo.
