As of today, we have 16M in cap space for 2023.

The following is already included, but outlines some issues
- 12M for Hargrave, even though he likely won't be on the team
- 21M for Kelce, even though he'll likely retire. We may get some cap relief from his retirement (up to 11M), but I also can't see the Eagles taking that money back from him. They're allowed to do this. It's why Calvin Johnson tells the Lions to F off all the time. They did it to him after he retired.
- 10M for Cox, even though he likely won't be on the team
- 7,5M for Seumalo even though he likely won't be on the team
- 9.8M for Brandon Brooks, who is retired
- 10M for Barnett, who likely won't be brought back.

That's 70M in dead cap, roughly 31%, before any other restructures.
Howie can June 1 some of those (ex: push half of Kelce's 21M to 2023), but you're just pushing out the pain.

The only reason it's not affecting this roster is that we're not paying our QBs. We're getting 30-40M in value from the Hurts' contract.

Anyone remember Chris Gocong? He was an elite pass rusher at Cal Poly, had like 20 some sacks his senior year and then the Eagles drafted him to be a SAM backer and he almost never rushed the passer. It always baffled me that he never was used to rush the passer and looked like a lost puppy trying to cover a tight end. Wish they would have used him like we’re using Reddick as the at the SAM.

But then he got traded to the Browns who ran a 3-4 and they made him an inside backer so who knows.

I don't think they will move on from Seumalo.

The cap certainly was real last year when we had to scrimp and save on the likes of Joe Flacco, Eric Wilson, Anthony Harris and Andrew Adam’s as our big ticket FAs.

Yup.  It was the only difference between us being like the Rams and winning the SB.  B-)

I believe that the road crowd in Arizona made a small difference in the game.

Do you think we'll have a crowd in Houston on a Thursday night?

To a point.  Can kicking can only go so far.

I am not really an expert, but only Johnson ($14M) and Slay ($17M) have large enough salary figures in 2023 that could be restructured to free up space. However, then you'd be pushing money for 30+ year-olds into the years where you are now paying Hurts.  (Those that disagree on Hurts, no need to opine.  This is an illustrative argument.)

The majority of the cap is in large chunks of money that I don't believe can be manipulated: Dead Cap ($27M), Void Years ($25M), Kelce/Cox ($20M), Bonus amortization ($40M), Roster/Workout/etc. Bonuses ($25M).

There’s no money to take back from Kelce. It’s a one year deal that Howie only structured that certain way for cap flexibility.

No take back.  But if he retires effective June 1, it pushes half of the ~$20M hit into 2024.

It's hard to blame him if that's the case.

Yup, can't blame hurts for not hitting his hot if the offense doesn't have a designed hot.

Eagles will just wait to file the papers to make it official after June 1st like they did with Brooks

Howie will try to tack on three or four voidable years into that retirement paperwork as well.

Just gives us a reason to low ball Hurts on contract negotiations 🙃. I think the idea of trading for Burns has more to do with this year, rather than looking toward the future. It all comes down to what do we think our chances to win a superbowl this year are, and Burns would help this team and its chances.

Agreed. I watched The QB School's video on Hurts from week 3 (?) and his one big complaint was that the offense doesn't have hot routes designed into the plays. Between that and the blitz pickup being poor in general it's just asking for problems.

I think that's what I must of watched as well and it was mind boggling that the offense didn't have built in hots.

I'm not familiar with any other pro offense that doesn't have hot routes on blitzes?

Maybe it's a new development on today's college spread NFL, I don't watch enough other teams to know either way?

Technically, he has a base salary in 2023. So they could play the game (they won't).

Functionally you're right.

Boy the NFL sure knows it's fanbase.  Interrupting gameplay for a Taylor Swift video preview.

My wife specifically wanted to watch TNF last night because she just couldn't miss whatever this bish had to say.

And she's been blasting her new album on her iPhone all morning.  I'd rather listen to Coco Melon on repeat (which happens way too much now).

Fun fact about the Gocong pick. It was during the third round and the Jets were on the clock. They were going to pick Gocong. The Eagles offered to move up a couple spots. The Jets agreed, assuming that Gocong would still be there a few picks later. They were floored when the Eagles submitted their pick.

I would say it's abnormal. That's probably what led into the awful offensive playcalling vs the Cardinals when we just kept throwing screens that would get blown up consistently since we seemingly condensed our playbook a lot that game due to all the blitzing.

Outsmarted them with the ol' square peg, round hole personnel that we loved. I do NOT miss that.

Wait, what happened?  I barely watched that game last night.  Taylor Swift did what?

She did some sort of teaser for her new album, which came out at midnight last night.  She let the world know beforehand that she was going to make some sort of announcement during TNF.  Now I'm reading that it was to draw more fans to the game, which I'm sure it did.  My wife was one of them.
