You can draft a CB at 8 and a safety at 32. You can't do either with a QB.

When you have a competent QB (Top 10 as of now and not done improving) you keep him and pay him. Drafting a new QB probably resets everything at least 2-3 years as far as as being a Superbowl contender. And that's if you hit, and not end up with a Wentz-like character. Sure I'd like to keep them, but can find another Gardner & Bradberry for 1 year deals next year if need be or just thru the draft. We will have extra compensatory picks too if they sign elsewhere. You can't pay everybody. That's the price of success. Gonna have to continue drafting well. We have our core and will be able to find long term fill ins during the next 2 drafts, which should focus on defense mostly with the premium picks.

I wholeheartedly disagree with you.  Hurts and Brees are 2nd Round proof that isn't true.  Dak and Cousins are similar 4th Round proof.  Brady is 6th Round proof as well. Russell Wilson and Joe Montana were 3rd Rounders. Mahomes and Big Ben and Rodgers were available at 8.

Right now Howie is surrounding our current "unlikely" Quarterback with the talent he needs to succeed.  It is only one person's opinion but Cameron Rising from Utah is considered to be by @Original Sin to be the best QB in this current crop of QB prospects and the way things are going right now he will be available when the Eagles pick during Day 2 of the 2023 Draft, possibly even Day 3.  Although Original Sin disagrees with me, I'm of the opinion that Max Duggan of TCU is another current dual-threat college QB who could thrive in this current Eagles Offensive scheme.

If the college game is going to groom QBs more as dual threat RBs than traditional pocket passers, then treating QBs with an approach similar to what is now used with RBs may well be the wisest use of resources.

I respectfully disagree with your bolded statement.  That was not the case with Big Ben.  It was also not the case with Brady.  Mahomes and Allen both went to the Playoffs in their second seasons.

Just watched the phillies highlights. Wow. This team.

No, that's not the measure to use in my mind.  The measure to use is whether or not that style can translate into NFL championships or not.  If it can then hell yeah go for it.  If not then no.

We only need to look back to the days of the veer and wishbone to see that it can't simply be based on what top colleges produce.

I'm okay with your scenario.  Now compare that scenario to the alternative with Bradberry gone, CG-J gone and Epps gone.  Slay is still under contract, but his playing partners are Manny, Moe and Jack.  Or alternatively Moe, Larry and Curly.   Look at what we would have had this year without Bradberry and C G-J ... Harris playing next to Epps with Wallace as Safety depth and Zech McPherson or some equivalent playing opposite Slay.  We certainly wouldn't be +14 in turnovers.

I respect your opinion, but also respectfully disagree with that opinion.

In fairness my opinions about the absolute value of a starting QB are colored by the performance of Nick Foles in 2017.

We once won the SB was Jalen Mills and roulette-of-player-X-who-was-healthier-than-Ronald Darby-that-week at CB. It is profoundly easier to mask third and fourth tier DB’s than it is to mask a third or fourth tier QB. We still had Jenkins on a decent sized contract when Carson signed his, we still had Mcleod in a decent sized contract; we didn’t need to settle for the bottle of the barrel there. Plus law of averages states we’re much more likely to land 1 or 2 decent ones as we shuffle through them. As with Epps, as with Maddox, as with Mills… ish.

Theres always the chance of failure, but you’re playing the probability. We’ll have this exact offense together for the next 2, 3, 4 years at least; that also has to be a consideration. The only player who can’t be kept in that time is Kelce due to retirement, and we’ve already handled that in Jurgens. Even if the secondary takes a step back, we’re still a powerhouse in this conference as long as we keep Hurts. Who will be our unique opponents on the 1st place schedule next year? Atlanta… Minnesota? This can be maintained if we keep Hurts.

Even if the Phillies win the next game, there’s no way I’m watching Game 5 instead of the Eagles. I’m just not wired like that. And I say that as a lifelong Phillies fan. Just can’t do it. Football is King in my world.

Not here.  It will be the 3rd Eagles game I missed this century:

Flying to my honeymoon

My parents surprise 50th (though I caught 80% on a tv anyway)

and now because I’ll be in the 400s at CBP

You could buy a 2nd TV. Is a worthy occasion.

The numbers for Hargrave’s, Bradbury, White, and Edwards are all accounted for as active commitments by Spotrac and OTC.  If the Dead Cap goes up the active commitments go down by a equal amount. Either way the Eagles have just under $30 million of available Cap for Howie to work with.

I see what you are saying.  And I think they use to not do that rollup.  I’ll look closer tomorrow when I’m at my computer and not outside watching the game

Well holy s***balls.  They did update the way they do their year by year tables.  I'm always so focused on figuring out the future dead cap at the player level I don't pay attention to what they have in their tables for the upcoming years.  Nice catch, excellent point.

I just bought one.  One will stream the Eagles, the other will be dedicated Phillies.  Now I just have to figure out which is which.  Phillies up high, or Eagles up high.   Meh... either way, I'll be lucky to stay awake for all of them.  THREE straight 8:03 PM start times just isn't right for workin' folk.  I need my rest.  Really hoping the Phils can win in 5, so that I can sleep this weekend.

That was a better emotional game but this was the funnest just pile on, watch, drink, care free game.

Fair enough. Can’t argue with that.

Dude, time for a second TV. Amazon Fire smart TV will run you as little as $150.

Amazon Fire TV 43" 4-Series 4K UHD smart TV https://a.co/d/0Gpe7Cs

We’ll be outside with the Phillies on the projector and Birds on the 72”. Got a keg of Allagash White and Yuengling. Now I need to get a bunch of champagne bottles and some fun ish to throw in the bonfire.

Ok Robert E Lee

It's weird some people who are fan of both teams would rather watch the eagles play one of the worst teams in the league (on Thursday night football which is historically terrible) over the Phillies playing in the world series.

I’m a fan of both teams but I’m definitely more emotionally invested in the Eagles. That being said, I’ll still watch the Phils

Football is simply superior.  It's that simple.
