Yup.  I don't think its about the giant donut the entire team was handed yesterday though.   I think its more about Syndergaard and the bullpen that makes folks wary.   The Phils have been on thin ice the entire playoff with how well the bullpen has actually been handling things.  They seem to be defying the odds right now, but there's always the fear of regression to the mean.  

 

You are definitely right though... the fans are the ones that are in the weirder space.  I think the players are fine.  But, if the fans get nervous and quiet, that will feed into the confidence for the Astros.  On the flip side, a raucous crowd might just unnerve them.  Difference last game was the starting pitcher heard and understood every word of heckling he got while warming up in the BP.  I don't think Javier heard it.  Verlander will hear it tonight.  And while it may not seem like a big deal... I think it is absolutely a mind game and not all pitchers can handle that.   Verlander has never won a game in the World Series.  That will be highlighted to him tonight quite a bit before the game.  Hopefully that will make him overthrow or try to be too fine.  

On the flip side, regardless of the pitching opposition this postseason, the Phillies have been averaging 7 runs per game.  One outlier doesn't change the fact that they are very comfortable hitting at CBP.

I don't get it.  I am in a fantasy football league at a local sports bar.  The people in the league are fans of the Eagles ( x 3 ), Seahawks ( x 4 ), Broncos, Rams, Raiders ( x 2 ), Cowboys and we bust balls and talk ish about each others teams.  If I said some of the stuff on here that I say to Cowboys fan, this place would melt down.

Yes it’s convenient but the Bristol Stool chart would tell you you’re dehydrated and/or constipated. Gotta leave proof it can’t just go poof.

Don't have any nerves for tonight's Phils game, haven't all playoffs. Ever since the Eagles won a SB, I've had a whole zen approach to sports. I wanted to experience a SB before I died, so I was always nervous about that, but once that was scratched off the bucket list, I get excited for the playoffs, but don't really experience heartbreak when the teams lose like I used to. With the exception of if you have the game in the bag and blow it. 2018 was a little bit of that with the Alshon drop/INT. But aside from the Phillies blowing like a big lead tonight and losing. Or a botched defensive play costing them a win, the Phils are either good enough to win or they aren't. And if they aren't good enough and didn't allow any gimmes to slip through their fingers, I'm not going to have any regrets.

Heartbreak is tied to regret and so far this postseason there's not a whole lot of regret. If anything, they've played above expectations.

Yeah thats why they dont understand it when you say "This place is more like a bunch of fans sitting at the bar talking about sports." Because they dont or cant. Just not the type of people they are. RTK aint going to a bar and telling everyone in the offseason Hurts is gonna win the MVP...and when everyone says yeah I doubt it...he gonna call them racist? This is their safe zone and its why they get sooooo defensive and sensitive...because its the only place they can.

Is it really too much to ask to have one place on this board where the focus can be Eagles football and other innocuous things? There is an entire section dedicated to vulgarity and incivility. One thread where people post thoughtful and have meaningful conversations.

Busting balls is on the same slippery slope as being a D.  There is little to nothing constructive or collaborative about busting balls.  Both are "It's all about me!" behavior patterns.
