Yeah, I just don’t agree that Smith is elite after the catch. That’s a big stretch. Brown is fast and powerful. Pure explosion. Goedert is big and strong and actually elite after the catch based on eye test and the numbers.

Smith is a good player, even very good if we want to argue semantics. Brown and Goedert are playing at a higher level, and not just because of how they’re used.

How can you argue they are playing at a higher lvl when Smith who is an elite route runner is getting everything close to the line of scrimmage

My memory of our run D back then was similar to how it is now.   It wasnt that we were amazing at it, its just that teams hardly ran against us.

It was way, way better

Would anyone trade away the past five weeks?  It's been a great run.  Hope to see it through to the end.

As I said to 4for4 "We are playing with House Money."

The Phillies may not with the ultimate prize, but they have delivered incredible value and great entertainment regardless.  With that said, they have pulled a rabbit out of a hat so many times in the past five weeks, I don't doubt for a moment that there isn't a rabbit, or two, left in that hat for them to give us.

Not in the playoffs

Was Stoll responsible for Nelson coming off the edge on that sack fumble? Or did Kelce/Hurts miss the assignement?

Not sure it was the same play but on one of the sacks, it looked like Stoll released his rusher to either block or be the recipient of a screen.

Think  timing was off with Kelce snap

I’m sure I’m not the first Phillies fan off the bandwagon, but this team looks done-diddily-un-for.

They are a top-heavy batting order, to say the least.  Their #2 and 3 hitters are corpses now — so lost at the plate they can barely make contact.  That won’t get better with a day off.  Stott at the plate is a useless proposition; haven’t followed the team closely this year but I can’t imagine what the organization sees in him.  Might as well kept an aging Gregorious; at least he’d offer something offensively.

Marsh is only there because Harper can’t play the field.  He offers little.  He and Stott are decent defenders at least.  Castellanos used to be able to hit, but he needs to get moved down to the #8 spot with Stott #9.

The batting lineup according to me with two games left — which will never happen:

1.  Marsh

2.  Segura

3.  Harper

4.  Schwarber

5.  Realmuto

6.  Bohm

7.  Hoskins

8.  Castellanos

9.  Stott (or an inflatable tube man to at least get HBP)

Hey, at least their season rests in the hands of their ace for Game 6, who says his arm is tired.  Hopefully he gives Jack Morris a call and asks if he can borrow his balls for one night.

Who pissed in your Wheaties?

Yup.  Snap was early. Stohl didn't even move.

Speaking of early, Lane should have been called for at least 3 false starts last night.  Dude was off so early, it was plain as day live.

You know that is gonna bite us in a critical moment down the road.

Agreed.  Using him behind the LOS is dumb.  He is the best route runner on the team, and its not close.  Get him in the secondary, let him break guys down, and not only his man / zone, but others will make mistakes opening up the offense for everyone.

Brown should be the guy catching screens, as he is big and physical and can get tough yards.

Let me repeat.  For the most part, the WR screens are an option within the play call.  If Hurts sees a heavy box, he throws the WR screen.  If you pay attention, you'll see some hand offs where the WRs are doing the screen action because they don't know if Hurst will pull the ball or not.

That option should go to AJ and Quez, winning behind the LOS is not the strongest part of Devonta's game.  IMO.

Bit of an ugly win, credit to the texans who made it a game. Peirce is a great runner.

Hurts continues to impress. He's still making mistakes but you forget he's only 24! His calm persona is definitely rubbing on onto the whole team. The Kelce-Hurts love is REAL.

They went to Quez last night.

Did anyone ask Sirianni about his decision to sneak instead of punt at the end?

Even pascal is more suited to it than Smith

Ehh...Brown looks more lumbering than fast and powerful after the catch.  Twice in the last 2 weeks he's had catches where I thought he could either outrun or split the defender but he didn't.  Those were the plays that TO would pull away and make you scratch your head at how someone so big could run that fast.  I think Smith pulls away with ease.  I'm NOT saying Brown isn't elite.

Brown runs like a bit of a locomotive and can't be tackled with arm tackles.  He needs to be tripped up or squared up.

Smith is faster, but lacks the power that Brown has.  Very different styles, but I don't think Smith is caught from behind like Brown was against Pittsburgh by Minkah.

@bpac55 have you noticed my avatar since like week 1 of the season?

I don’t want to turn this into "I hate Devonta,” but I don’t think he’s an elite route runner at this point. I think Brown’s a top-10 NFL receiver and Goedert is a top 3/4 TE who is among the most efficient pass catchers in the league.

hes open on every play (that he doesnt have to stand there for a screen pass). He cant be covered.

Gannon's run fits are bad too though, it's not just poor execution. Way too much 2-high, especially in this matchup. Gannon just rolls out his scheme regardless of the opponent. I can't stand that style of coaching.

IMO, it's more coaching than personnel. It's not like Williams, Cox, Hargrave can't anchor. They'll put Kyzir on the field over Dean in 13 personnel snaps.

I agree that it is coaching/scheme.  What I saw last night was a lack of gap control by the LBs ... coupled with a RB who was both sudden and patient.  Pierce seemed to always have the instincts needed to find the uncovered gap between the D-Linemen.  All you need is one such uncovered gap and the run is successful.  The fact that he only had a total of 139 yards is surprising.  It looked like a whole lot more than that to me.  The 5-man fronts take away a LB from the scheme, and the deployment of the Safeties does not allow for any Dawkins-like plays.  Both those are Gannon issues.

With that said, the Defense ranks 4th in the NFL with total yards allowed per game and the total last night of 303 fits right into that 4th slot ... ahead of the #5 team which gives up 310 per game.  And once again the Eagles were on the plus side of the Turnover battle with 2 INTs, so Gannpn's scheme does have its upsides as well.

While I agree that Smith isn't exactly best suited for WR screens, why haven't they been featuring Gainwell in the passing game at all?
