One thing Ill say is that we saw college level tackling last night, it was alarmingly bad.

Im not sure what Avonte Maddox thought he was doing, but he wasnt playing tackle football

CJGJ as well, stop the f'ing shoulder pad hits and wrap a guy up if hes already 25 yards downfield

Maddox play on the WR screen to moore was just bad. There was no way he was gonna be able to pick it. He also had a super slim chance at deflecting the pass or breaking it up. He went high gave away any chance at making the tackle. If he goes low and for the tackle (chance he makes the tackle) maybe Moore breaks the tackle but it slows him down and likely the guys rally to moore and he doesn’t get a big gain if 25. I thought it was a poor decision by maddox..

It was high risk and very low probability.  Better to just break down and force Moore to put a move on him or to have to run behind his blocker rather than just allowing him to run right by.   Bad decision for sure.

I get Thursday night football and short week makes it look worse. Just saying their tackling in the cardinals game was not good. I also thought at times in the Dallas game it wasnt great.

his point is not only relevant in a fantasy football perspective. Its the human perspective of keeping an employee happy at work. If employees feel underappreciated, and/or underutilized they can become unhappy. This career is also one that is very legacy driven for many players in that they have goals of making pro bowls, all-pros teams, potentially hall of fame. If Smith is not in position to pile up accolades he may feel unfulfilled in his career accomplishments. Of course team comes first, but its also human to want some of those other things. These players are often driven by being the best, and Smith isnt getting a chance to prove it, or strive for any of the other individual accolades that can provide a fulfilling career even in the absence of any super bowls.

Smith may not care about his stats but I would guess he cares about his utilization.  He's had some highlight reel catches.   I still think he's not targeted enough.  He's also playing 1b behind AJ at this point.  I expect that may change as the season goes on and Smith will have some plays where he's not just targeted on a screen pass.

Run defense, tackling, when Kvon Wallace is on the field, good coaches/QBs will pick on him. He can't cover/always out of position.

Kvon didn't play poorly.  He saved a TD when Bradberry and CJG had a busted coverage on Dorsett. Wallace came from the otherside of the field and laid a big hit on Dorsett.  It was a good play by him.  He also had a nice tackle on Pierce.  The TD by the TE wasn't a coverage issue. It was just a perfect throw to a place where Kvon had no chance to defend the ball.  I am all for hating on bad play but I think he was good for him.

After last night, we should be significantly more upset at the defense than the offense.

Don’t forget Ray Finkle wide righted a 60 yard chip shot

Like you said high risk low probability. To me going for the tackle is the smarter play there given the circumstances and situation. It was already 2nd and 14. If maddox goes low for the tackle and actually brings down moore (he had a clearly shot at him as he actually got to moore relatively unblocked) it’s likely close to 3rd and 18. Probably forcing a punt on that drive. Instead they got a big first down and got a field goal.

When you are getting gashed in the running game, a lot of times it is due to bad tackling.  Pierce got a lot of yards after contact... as did Dallas... as did the Cardinals.

At times I think these guys forget to play the situation as much as the play.  2nd and long... already up... just make 'the simple play' and 'do your job'.  Force him back inside where the help is.

When Elliott went for that 54 yard FG, the telecast had a graphic that estimated it as a 36% chance he makes it.

How the F do they calculate that? Career he's better than 50% from 50-59. Granted he missed it, but what goes into that calculation?

One thing I give the Texans credit for.  Not only having one, but two WR under 30 who seem to have been in the league for over 10 years in Brandin Cooks and Phillip Dorsett.  Had no idea Dorsett was still in the league and still "only" 29.  Brandin Cooks might as well be the Kirk Cousins of WR.  He has 6 1,000 yard seasons, 98 TDs and what does he have to show for it?  He's never made a difference on a team or contributed to a SB win.

I’d imagine it’s

1. Elliot’s tendencies with distance, moment in the game, which hash mark

2. Elements, wind, stadium, time of year

3. night game, short week, winning/tied/losing, direction of the field

Some of those analytics get absurdly indepth

Our tackling has been consistently bad and at times downright embarrassing.  Claypool dragged three Eagles like 15 yards, pretty sure that happened multiple times vs Dallas.

Last night was a joke, way too many half-arse arm tackle attempts.

It needs to improve very quickly

Yup, I won't get too worried after one night. The short rest and travel certainly affects the ability of players to be fast, physical, alert, and aggressive on the field. Just be glad we escaped with a win and get 10 days to rest up before Washington. I'm just sad we won't get to smack Wentz around again.

Claypool was being pushed by a team mate on that play.

For sure. My concern is the eagles need to be better in tackling which somewhat ties with the run defense. I think the eagles are a better team than the titans especially if Willis is starting. But if you tackle like they did in Dallas, cards and Texans games the titans have a much better shot at pulling off an upset and limiting your offensive possessions. I saw them do it in the past against teams i thought were better than them (i thought the bills were a more talented roster last year)

The graphic immediately changed to somewhere in the 60s after he missed, which confused the hell out of me.

Pierce is a violent runner and never seemed to slow that down.  It looked like no one wanted any part of him.

He somehow missed him and, as a result, had one of his 4 bad reads on the night. It happens.

There were a few plays of epically bad tackling.  Embarrassing on the one long run I believe.  It was like please someone just use your f** arms and hands to do something.
