White flashed early on in the season but has definitely just become a quiet contributor to the defense as of late.  You don't hear his name much but I also don't think he's getting abused out there.  Just a piece of the defense for the time being.

Some advanced metrics site probably has the breakdown of White's snaps into coverage responsibility vs run D gap control responsibility.

Looking at the coverage snaps, what is the QB success rate is when the QB's target is either a receiver in White's zone or a receiver White has man responsibility for.  That would give us a reasonable measurement of his effectiveness in the coverage snaps.

The run D snaps are a bit less easy to get granular on.  One possible measurement could be looking at the gap the RB ended up going into or going through.

Thank you.  I would never have guessed those two names in a 1,000 years.  But armed with the names, I can see the resemblance.

Still waiting to see where you are going with this joke.

I don't disagree with any of this. He can get better in a lot of areas. But I mean his value. My main point of concern is his agent is going to be pointing at the impact plays when it comes to his next contract. I think he's making more of an impact than he did in NO, so what happens when someone pays for that, the INT's drop, and the possibility he only makes minimal growth or is just ordinary everywhere else? His market value is going to be an all time high with just the 5 INT's this year as is. I just think it's more of a gamble to pay someone based on that and just hope they improve everything else. Obviously if he does improve in the other areas on the back half of the schedule it changes the equation and lessens the gamble. But based on everything up to this point, I wouldn't want to be making that gamble.

That is what heavily incentive laden contracts are designed to address.

Overshown is a perfect LB for todays game, and the way the eagles want to play defense. One can walk. Keep the other and draft overshown. Or go with Dean/Overshown next year.

DrafTek has Overshown ranked at 209.  If that holds up he would last until the second half of Day 3 in the Draft.  Is that where you see him going?  At 6'4" and 220 lbs, is he a bit light for the NFL?

Steelers called him.

Maybe they did, maybe his agent was just trying to put that out there.  But yeah Cox has had his moments this season so there will for sure be a team looking to sign him when he does become a free agent again in the offseason.

I like Overshown too. His size, 6'4'' 250, and speed would pair nicely here with Dean or Edwards. Think he could be had in RD2 also with a small trade up.

250 or 220?  The University of Texas website has him listed as 220.

I’m rewatching the eagles vs Seahawks playoff game where wentz left due to injury and that clowney hit was bad then but rewatching it again he had ample opportunity to not hit wentz in the head like he did.

Donovan McNabb doing a Hollis Thomas impersonation.

LOL.  That is why I didn't recognize him.  Vick on the other hand has gotten even better looking than he was as a player.

Its interesting- last year he was thought of as like a top 3 LB. He was a projected 1st-2nd rounder. Until he decided to stay in school.

This year, he is completely forgotten and buried in draft rankings.

He should rise back up boards as the pre-draft process plays out. Or, it could be another curious case similar to our guy Blankenship where he just stays forgotten. Something to keep an eye on.

This is the craziest thing ever posted on the blog. And it’s not even close. You gotta be trolling

When was the last time Michael Vick was seen (electronically or in person) in/near Sacramento?  When was the last time Donovan McNabb was seen (electronically or in person) in/near Sacramento?  It has been close to 10 years since I have seen either of them.  McNabb never was much to see even when he was playing.  Vick on the other hand always was attractive.  Neither of them were known for being great public speakers.

Scott didn’t look like he had his ankle overly taped on the couple of DB practice clips posted by the beats.  He has  gone from DNP last week to LP.  But I didn’t see any film with him cutting.  Who knows if he is ready.  Eagles seem to be taking a Rest approach for injuries this year.
Guidry seems to be #38 now.   Guidry does have some playing experience with the Jets and has blazing speed.  But with Chachere on the roster, I don’t see them elevating him.  @mattwill, given your comments on track stars related to Allen earlier this offseason, note that Guidry was a track star.
 McCain elevation seems likely.

The track star label isn't bad to have, but we have seen many a player who is blazing fast off the field, not be able to show the same level of football speed.  I'll be interested to see Guidry in action.  I do think playing Defensive Back is less natively friendly to track speed than playing Receiver.  Receiver is a proactive position, while DB is a reactive position.  How "heady" a DB is can really affect how well his straightline speed translates.

If we could trade down and come away with Bresee and Foskey we will have done great.

Bresee and Andre Carter would not be bad either.

I've been trying to figure out why that photo makes me happy. Not sure why but it does. Looking at Vick, can't believe how he could throw the ball so effortlessly, McNabb is McChunky Soup and that's always funny and Hurts has shown up. Randall in the photo would have rounded it out.

Sure, if you can get him to agree to one. I don’t know if there’s enough of a connection where he would take a team friendly deal to stay here. I think he’ll prioritize a pay day and bad teams are stupid every year.

I wonder if that means CJGJ in the slot?

I don't think so.  Didn't Maddox miss the Jaguars game and they kept CJGJ at Safety and just rolled with Josiah Scott at nickel?

Thanks for that, Matt.

Great article. Football!!!

Used to be a time when our own would do that research and post up it in here...remember when?

Hurts is evolving using these concepts, put forth by coaches game-planning for down and distance, success rate and post-snap reads. His decision making is spot on but for a couple mis-reads here and there or an End Crashing unexpectedly. Who's perfect?

Many of us said to give this guy a chance to grow before shoving him onto the trash heap and he's showing the aptitude to do so. Surely in control of the Offense. D coordinators are worried about defending this guy and our O in general.

I don't know where I stand on the whole "Extend him now" debate, but that's why Howie gets paid. Right now, he's showing most everything you want in a QB1. Smart with the ball, executing the plays as designed, going through his progressions because he has time, mostly, reading the D better...making the downfield throws as needed, in other words, growing.

Folks should just remember to include Last Year vs This Year in evaluating his progress.

He wants to win, so do we.

8-0...what a ride so far...:Eagle_smiley:

Downside to waiting to extend him is the price will only go up.  We saw that with Dallas and Dak.  Downside if they extend him is he falls off a cliff like Wentz did but they were still able to move on from him and recover even with that cap hit to be possibly better than ever before ultimately today.  So it won't destroy you if you sign him and something happens but if you wait you will just be paying a higher rate.  He wins MVP and/or Super Bowl and you pretty much have to extend him.

Agreed 100%.  That is the challenge Howie will have to handle when it comes time for negotiations.  I trust Howie explicitly.

My bias is clear.  I want all 5 of the DBs on the 2023 Eagles ... Epps, CGJ, Slay, Bradberry, and Maddox.  Howie needs to get it done.
