All we need are guys who have tons of swag, work the hardest, and intelligent enough to get freaky when they have to. Clearly why we let Strong go and picked up Book. He is the ideal backup to Jalen Hurts. Move over Minshew! I long for the days when Carson Strong's name doesn't routinely get inserted into arguments out of nowhere.

Is there a single name on that list that is interesting? QB Anthony Brown QB Chase Garbers QB Chris Oladokun QB Chris Streveler QB Cooper Rush QB Danny Etling QB Davis Webb QB E.J. Perry QB Jacob Eason QB Jake Browning QB Jeff Driskel QB Josh Johnson QB Josh Rosen QB Logan Woodside QB Matt Barkley QB Nathan Peterman QB Reid Sinnett QB Ryan Griffin QB Sean Mannion QB Trace McSorley QB Will Grier There just wasn’t anyone there at all. A lot of teams kept a third QB on their original 53. When Howie said in his PC that "there will be 3 QBs on the 69-man roster”, I went and checked right away who was available and saw the list you’ve compiled. At that point I was pretty sure either Sinnett or Strong would be brought back.

I’m very doubtful on Fields, Zach Wilson, and I have concerns whether Doug and Press Taylor can develop Lawrence, tbh. Hurts, Tua, and Lance are all in somewhat similar circumstances this season. All will be starting QBs on strong rosters with playoff expectations. Lance has the longest rope within the organization (I think he plays well enough this season to keep Jimmy G on the bench), Tua has the shortest and will be replaced unless the Dolphins make a strong playoff push — which I don’t see happening That 2021 QB class may not live up to the hype, I agree with you on Lawrence and Zach Wilson, Wilson may be the worst QB taken in 2021’s 1st round. He still doesn’t throw consistently with any sort touch on the ball. Lance may or may not have the longest leash if Shanahan didn’t really want him, he won’t let Lance stop the 49’ers from getting to the playoffs.

An NFL quarterbacks’ coach that I really respect once told me that a player that truly embraces being a backup quarterback is having another coach on the field. Josh McCown was that guy. I’ve always said, I think Ian Book is. He is intelligent, he was a winner at Notre Dame and while he may not have the physical tools for the NFL as a starter, he can help.” I just don’t see it. I respect Matt’s player analysis although he always said he wasn’t focused on QBs. And a bit of an ND homer.
September 5, 20223 yr To those still discussing the ROI versus sunk cost versus Howie's suckage versus Howie's ability as a snake oil salesman... Regarding the giant turd burger that JJAW and Reagor were on the field... Time to move on, fellas.

Without beating a dead horse, Hurts is, by far, the least talented and most conventionally underwhelming of every relevant qb prospect from those drafts. He was the latest draft pick, so that is some objective supporting evidence. Yet he is probably going to have a lot more success in 2022 than Lawrence, Wilson, and Fields. Lance and Tua were far from the top themselves, yet they will likely have better years too, thanks to their situations.

Trying to avoid the whole "Hurts Sucks" thing, but I can't recall any other QB being so set up for success. Decent WRs with a proven Star and some nice talent on board, reasonable Running Back room so far, dangerous Tight Ends and arguably a Monster Blasting O line. If that doesn't translate to success, we're doin it wrong. Like him or hate him, your choice but all the same, the pieces are in place. Up to Hurts. Now I'm ready. Go Green.

Yea, his contract will be guaranteed but why not just stay on the Eagles PS then and then get poached week 2?

That kinda makes sense buts he’s been a free agent twice now in the last year and doesn’t seem to have that much of a market. I guess his agent has heard something we didn’t.

No such restrictions as an UFA.

Good point but I’d think he’s going to stay that long anyway if a team is interested enough for him to want out of the PS when you consider it’s going to take a few weeks to learn the new defense. Unless he and his agent are grossly overvaluing his worth.

So much of it is going to the right place, I’m not sure McNabb and Mahomes are franchise QB’s w/o going to Andy Reid. Tua on the other hand was put into a bad situation with his head coach since Flores didn’t want him, the Dolphins hired out of retirement Chan Gailey to be his OC, plus Tua was coming off the same injury that Bo Jackson had. None of it means that Tua would of been good at the right place, but we’ll never know. Then there is Herbert, he’s the rare QB that’s actually better in the NFL, than he was at college.
