Caleb won the Heisman, well deserved. 3rd Heisman QB for Riley, and considering Malachi Nelson, who might the be the most talent QB he has had yet, is in the pipeline, it won't be his last.

And it begins. Hurts will no doubt get PAID. We're in a better position than most teams who have to pay young QBs due to our extra draft capital.

Let's hope Howie next few drafts are like his last two, and not like the last 2 before them.

They won’t extend Hurts until after the season, but if the Eagles make a deep playoff run I’d expect Howie to follow a similar contract he did with Wentz.  At that time market value at QB was $32M per season.  Howie did the deal a year early to give some flexibility to the contract.  If Wentz had progressed as it appeared he would when the contract was signed, it would have been a steal considering how quickly QB salaries escalated after that point.

They have Brown, Goedert, Mailata under contract extensions already, and Smith, Dickerson and Jurgens on rookie deals.  RB will be easy to fill without significant cap investment.  The offense should still be able to function for a few years even with a market QB cap hit.

On defense, however, there will be many more questions.

Hopefully Hurts’ legacy can be prouder

What playbook??? Buddy told Randall to gi out and make 7 big plays a game, he had an atrocious O line and zero running game and a defense that choked in the playoffs.

While Cunningham still played his part in those failures he's not  solely at fault.

One could say McNabb with more did less than Randall and came up short as well.

Just trust in Howie, if there's one thing he excels at, it's getting value in draft day trades.

It'll come down to who is on the board, how the scouts rate them, and what he's offered.

Sometimes I feel Howie is more worried about winning the draft value game than he is In getting good players.

Buddy and Kotite built a rusty jalopy and asked Randall to drive it. Buddy said I know defense so of course I know offense (he was Juan Castillo before Castillo) Kotite hated Randall. HoF coaches Parcells, Belichick, Gibbs, Walsh, and Johnson coached circles around them. Randall left and dominated in Minnesota. Buddy left and went 12-20. Kotite left and went 4-28.

BTW, that so-called dominant defense was dominant in 1991 when Randall was hurt, very good in 1992, pretty good in 1989, and that's it. What they were most of his career was big play flashy with amazing Eric Allen and 4 of the worst corners in the league. One of their nicknames was actually Toast. Ben Smith was a 2nd dominant corner for all of about 10 weeks before his injury. They had HoF players here on D for years and always 1 or 2 incredibly weak players to be exploited.

Cunningham was 2nd in MVP voting in 1988 and 1990, but yeah... all his fault. He was 2nd in MVP voting in 1998 too, so 3 time MVP runner up and he's the one you go after?

Here was the offense built around him.

  • 1st round OL Kevin Allen (9th overall) jailed for rape
  • 1st round Keith Byars (10th overall) a good H-back and one of the worst runners in the league (3.4 ypc through 5 years and 3.6 overall as an Eagle)
  • 1st round RB Michael Haddix (8th overall in 1983) was a career 3.0 ypc back.
  • Anthony Toney, another 3.6 ypc RB.
  • 1st and 4th round picks traded for Pro Bowl Ron Solt on steroids. What they got was Ron Solt without steroids.
  • A pair of 1st round draft picks traded to draft Antone Davis at 8th overall. Davis was a mediocre player at an incredible cost.
  • 4th round supplemental Cris Carter. TD machine for 87-89 but really liked drugs. Buddy cut him and saved his life.
    • Carter's first 1000 yard season was 1993. He was not that guy yet in Philly.
  • HoVG Mike Quick. Healthy for Randall's first year as a starter then hurt for the next 3 years and gone.
  • The most pathetic assortment of bums playing OL. Joe Conwell (Tommy's brother), converted DT Reggie Singletary, Matt Darwin, and on and on
  • They had one OL from the Chargers (Broderick Thompson) who was given a pay cut ultimatum a few days before the season. He told reporters he would not play as well as full price (or something like that) He was true to his word.
  • Keith Jackson was a fantastic pick and a very good TE but a 670 and 5 guy so don't get carried away.
    • Jackson left after 4 years due to the Eagles players suing the league for free agency.
    • The owner, Braman, was human garbage so the Eagles were eager to be the precedent cases. One story went that he charged them for socks.
  • The 84-91 Eagles O-line was so horrific that LT has 2 QBs tied for most in his career sack list, both Jaws and Randall.
  • They gave up 104 sacks in 1985 alone. Imbecile Buddy thought having Randall be his 3rd and long QB was a great way to learn to play in the NFL.
  • The year without Randall in 1991 the offense had a 63 passer rating with 17 TDs and 27 picks while running for 3.1 per carry.
  • They were 4-0 in 1993 when he got hurt and 4-8 after. Ken O'Brien was 0-4. Bubby was 4-4.
  • They were 7-7 with Randall in 1994 and 0-2 without him.
    • Randall and Bubby split games in 1993-94 and Randall was 11-7 while Bubby (a decent NFL starter) went 4-6.
    • O'Brien and Bubby were both just under .500 as NFL starters but the Eagles offense was garbage without Randall.
  • Jim McMahon did actually play well sometimes in 1991 but he got brutalized behind that pathetic line.
    • There was a 12 days of Jim McMahon injuries song around Christmas that year

The playbook story comes from Kotite who is a  joke. Kyle Brady on the Kotite Jets was calling his PSU coaches to get actual coaching because Kotite's Jets had none to offer.

Please explain and provide examples of how those are mutually exclusive.

Thank you in advance for supporting your assertion.

That was more on Buddy than Randall, which is why I’ve always thought Buddy was an overrated figure in this city. Good coach, but he couldn’t hold a candle to Reid.

Also, for the gamblers of the blog you can get Boston Scott anytime TD tomorrow at 6-1 on most platforms. 8 of his 16 career TDs have come against the Giants so I think the coaches might be in on the inside joke that he wrecks the Giants.

Howie wins the draft game so he has more lottery picks because that's what the draft is. He's done way more bad than good and his dealing has made that happen.

No one is harder on him about Jefferson than he himself is. It was a colossal failure. Move on. The AJ Brown trade was so incredible that the other GM has already been fired over it.

His Sam Bradford trade got us a mediocre player in round 1 but the guy did have a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the NFCCG and SB.

I don't think he'd want to be a 5th in the rotation, but if he's got a good enough slider, he might be a decent long reliever.

Buddy is one of the 10 best defensive minds in NFL history. I loved the guy as the coach. He was also a bleep shield for his players. Besides his defensive head coach of the 85 Bears and his revolutionary D he was also one of the masterminds in shutting down the Colts to win the Jets SB. He's also as good as an offensive coach as Chip Kelly was as a GM.

Re Randall: I think a little while ago Jaws said he spoke to Hurts after Wentz was traded, and Hurts told him that he just wants someone to believe in him and teach him how to be a proper QB. Over the course of the last two years, Siri/Shane/Brian along with Tom House and Quincy Avery have done exactly that for him.

No one ever did that for Randall, his early coaches just saw him as a play-making instrument, it wasn't until he was with the Vikes and Green/Billick where he actually got coached up properly.

Sort of.

The Saints did this twice with Houston where Houston reworked deals of their players to take way more cap in bonus and then traded the player to New Orleans.

Ingram and Roby

The Texans got higher draft value than expected but the Saints got millions of cap savings.

It's in the Giants best interests to throw tomorrow's game.  Rest starters and all that.  Prepare for the must win Washington game and if the Eagles win their next 3 they not only secure the division but if Vikings lose in Detroit tomorrow then the Eagles also secure the #1 seed if they win their next 3 in this scenario.  That means Eagles are almost definitely playing backups week 18 in a must win game for them.

The coaching only lasted one season.  Cunningham was a mirage in 98 and returned to lacklustre in 99 and promptly lost interest and his job, again.  He enjoyed a splash season propped up by two future HOF WR in Carter and Moss, and an excellent RB in Robert Smith.  Cunningham was lazy and unmotivated by nature, and he made his coaches look worse than they were as a result.

Duante Culpepper was very close to as good in his rookie season a couple of years later.

Success with Randy Moss

16-0 and a SB loss - Tom Brady

15-1 and a shank away from the SB - Randall Cunningham

This is the point where delusion sets in and people pretend any other Randy Moss season is anywhere near the success of 1998 or 2007.

Worse stats, less team regular season success, not as far in the playoffs, but almost the exact same thing if you look at it with the dishonest agenda lens.

Did Culpepper finish 2nd in MVP voting in 2000 instead of winning only because a RB had a 2K season in the middle of back to back SB wins in possibly the most dominant 2 year stretch any RB ever had? I must have missed that part.

Gotta give Howie and his FO major props, we have an amazing young nucleus.

This list should also include: Dickerson, Davis, Dean, Sweat, and hopefully CJGJ.

It's that time of year again.  December Football against the NFC BEAST.   The Birds take their show on the Road the next three games.  First up is our bitter Rival The GMen.   The Good news, they've been Road Warriors all year.  The Eagles are 5-0 on the Road and 7-0 going back to last year.  This is the longest road winning streak in the League.   Offensively, they are scoring about 26 points on the Road and giving up roughly 18.   So the Road Wins have been a battle.  The GMen are a much better team this year.   Brian Daboll has instantly changed the culture of that team.   We know Brian from his Patriots days (He was on the Team during Super Bowl XXXIX).  Jalen knows Brian from his College days (They won a Championship Together) and Nick knows Brian from his coaching days (They coached together on KC).   So once again another intersecting storyline for the Birds.  (Not to mention Bradberry playing his former team).

The GMen's Defense is actually pretty good.  They hold teams to low scores most of the time.   Also the GMen have done well in one score games overall.   The Offensive isn't as explosive through the air but they are on the ground.  Both Saquon and Daniel act like a two-headed Monster in the backfield.   Obviously Jalen didn't have his best game the last time he was at the Meadowlands.   Despite that, he did have the team in position to win the game sans Reagor's back to back misses.  AJ has drastically improved our WR's group since that game.   Jalen is also an NFL Best 14-1 in the regular season since that point.  Weather could be a factor as well as rain is in the forecast.   (The Birds played in a storm against the Jags earlier this year).   The GMen started out hot going 6-1 over their first 7 games.  Since that point they are 1-3-1 over their last five.

So they are in a midseason slump.  They are still #6 in the Wild Card standings and the Tie actually does help keep them above Seattle who owns the tiebreaker over them.  With a huge primetime Washington game looming.....the GMen are hoping to keep their playoff hopes strong.  The Birds have bigger goals of Winning the Division and #1 Seed.    NFC BEAST games you can throw records out as we all saw first hand in our only loss of the season to Washington.   With that said, Barkley is dealing with an injury.  And the GMen Offense averages around 20 points a game.   If the Birds can get up roughly two scores, it will be hard for them to keep up.   I see the Defense forcing Daniel into some mistakes as well.   I think the Birds will get it done on the ground and air this game.   Boston should also have some impact today.   I definitely see the GMen putting up a good fight but it won't be enough.   Birds continue rolling to 12-1 and officially clinch their 5th Playoff Berth in 6 Seasons.

BIRDS - 31

GMEN - 13

Jalen - Rush TD

Boston - Rush TD

AJ - TD

DeVonta - TD

Jake - FG

Defense: INT, Multiple Sacks, Fumble recovery
