The hits need to be reduced for the sake of preserving his career, if the team actually has a long term plan for him.   If not, then treat him like a RB, use his body up and look to find another one in a couple years.  That seems harder than just getting his game to complete the metamorphosis.  And...the thing that drives me nuts more than anything else... they have a RB that they could rely on, and an OL that they could have chosen to just pound the Bears with... but chose to put their QB in harm's way, while not having him be overly successful as he was taking these big hits (because it wasn't just the one from the DT, but quite a few from their LBs as well).  

You know I wonder about this. Considering how difficult it is to find that "franchise” QB….it seems like our current strategy could be easier to pull off over the long term. Build up the lines, add playmaking talent at other positions, then find a QB as the last piece. It would allow for a greater margin of error in evaluating QBs.

 

The tricky part would be assembling the entire team to coincide with the QB having the game "slow down” for them

I would trade Hurts and our next 3 drafts for Mahomes in a heartbeat, but the reality that you have to get lucky (draft #1 overall in the right draft, find Brady in RD6) to do so.

Would you?  Of course having a great QB is top priority but even having a great QB doesn't guarantee anything.  Still need a complete team.  Mahomes couldn't do nothing in that SB loss to TB because his O-line was banged up.

I had Colon Cowherd on yesterday and he said if a team wanted to trade for Mahomes he'd want 5 #1s, 5 #2s, the teams LT and best pass rusher.  Hope he wasn't being serious but knowing him he most likely was.

No one said he suffered a career ender and shoulder sprains are a tough Injury for a player that uses his shoulder every play.

As for the super bowl no one questions whether or not hurts will do all he can to get right and compete but he needs to get healthy first, no reason to throw him out there this week and risk further injury and his career.

While ideally one would like a QB who is an elite runner and can pass the ball as well and stay healthy for 10+ years those guys are the exception not the rule.

The rule is running qbs dont last and that type of football isn't sustainable in the long run.

If hurts had got hurt in a fluke play where he had run the  ball 3 times in the game or from the pocket than it is what it is but fact was he got hurt after running the ball 17 times, which is an insane amount of times to run ones qb in a game especially when that qb already averages 11 carries a game, which is also historically not the norm.

Those hits have a cumulative affect that aren't going to magically go away when he becomes an older passer.

If eagles want to have hurts for the foreseeable future they need to decrease his run usage or he's not going to get to the point where he transitions to more of a passer as he'll be transitioning to IR or retirement.

 

 Burrow takes a ton of hits.  He takes more bad hits per game than Hurts.

I'm not in the NFL, but yes. A direct family member would change that, but it would if everything at work was riding on something the next day. It's a short week and they are changing starters. Every meeting is important.

Good thing the game is not until Saturday, and they can practice / walk through tomorrow.  Minshew will be good to go.
