Im pretty sure we had something similar for a fleeting moment on the old boards. But admins decided it would cause too much butthurt. The main reason why this place is still better than reddit is that it isnt over censored like that with posts being hidden by the algorithm. Here, good posts can get drowned out by all the bickering. Especially when you have a group think gang up going on. But the other posts are still there. On reddit, that crap is all you would see because its getting likes and bringing it to the top, while the other stuff is hidden because its downvoted. And it can become hard to actually find any decent discussion. Its not necessarily chronological. Its ordered by popularity. That is why everyone rejected Spadaro's suggestion to continue our eagles discussion over on reddit. Its not a good place to discuss anything. Its a great place for sharing nudy pics but not for flowing discussion. This, used to be great for discussion, especially the blog. And, its still better since the site here operates differently. But those people who come here in search of a dopamine rush can still have a significant negative impact on the user experience here for the majority of others. Sometimes its entertaining. But some people really get carried away and it becomes tired. Sold.

He’s had bad drops, but he’s also had very inconsistent QB play. Not like that should be an excuse but i think he’s a dude that can take over a game. Defenders just bounce off of him every time he catches the football. Hit him in space and he will dominate. His ability to drag, shed, and elude tacklers is outstanding for sure. Prime Gronk and Kelce were fast, but they weren't true burners, even for TE's. It was their unique combination of overpowering strength with good speed. I don't know that Goedert is in that range, but he's definitely impressive. Similarly, what made Ertz special was his combination of length with buttery smooth routes, despite having very little explosion in his game. When you pair two typically opposed strengths like that, it creates matchup problems...and the elite TE's who actually put up big receiving yards usually fit into those categories.

But hearing "reports” in TC about him dropping back a lot was concerning You are going to see Barnett, Sweat, Reddick and P Johnson (and maybe even K Johnson) dropping into coverage. Frankly, I hope it doesn’t happen with Barnett but the others have the speed to cover some TEs, RBs and even some receivers. This is necessary to disguise and run some blitzes. Best way to slow down Reddick and the Johnsons is to play some 12 and force them into coverage. I have no issue with these guys and Sweat occasionally dropping into coverage. Sweat, K. Johnson and Reddick are plenty fast enough and even P Johnson is faster than a lot of TEs and some RBs. All, except Barnett, are faster than T. J. Edwards, even with Edwards’ football IQ. Disguise and fool the offense is the name of the game on calling defenses.

If he stays healthy, and his QB progresses to someone that can pass the football, he could be a top 5 tight end in the league. He might be already with his insane blocking ability, but he would never get the public recognition that the other ones get since they have QBs that can actually throw the football forward. Anytime I see Mike Gesicki, I think of Dallas Goedert because the Dolphins chose Gesicki ahead of Goedert in the second round of that draft. Apparently they are regretting that decision if rumors that he is only the trading block is to be believed. He apparently doesn't fit into their scheme and they don't want to pay him the going rate. It makes me happy to know that other teams sometimes choose the "wrong" player at a specific position, and it makes me even happier when we're the team that ends up on the plus end of things.
August 30, 20223 yr @eagle45 to your post earlier- guys I thought would be good who sucked Strong JJAW Mike Wallace Bradley Fletcher Asomugha Nate Allen Earl Boykin I have a hard time with this one. Bunch of free agents. Not as many draft picks I can think of. For other teams a few DL pop out in my mind- Datone Jones and Taco Charlton. Inversely, I can probably think of a few more draft prospects I thought would suck who turned out good. But not necessarily for the eagles. WRs pop in to my mind like Alshon Jeffery, and Mike Evans. RBs AJ Dillon and James Connor.

If they hadn't revealed the fact that some of their posting was actually nothing more than posting crap, no one would have known the difference.

Disguise and fool the offense is the name of the game on calling defenses. Then we've already won. In all seriousness, I don't mind them spending some time in coverage. The more time they spend dropping back into coverage, the easier it will be to confuse OLs with what is coming at them. We all know it takes more than speed though. Mychal Kendricks could run like a CB and turned his hips like a nose tackle. All of these light edge rushers have the pure speed for coverage, but they still need to prove they won't be wandering around lost.

Tbh i actually think gesicki would be better on a team that actually utilizes him more. I had him last year in fantasy. There would be games where he was just beating the defense early in the game and then they wouldn’t throw to him for 2+ quarters even though the defense had no answer for him. He’d be open and they’d just go away from him. I actually think I talked about this on the blog last year. Idk what the dolphins are asking for but if i were a team like the broncos, chargers, Bucs and saints I’d be interested in him.

Gesicki was talking about about needing some preseason reps because he’s changing positions to actual tight end instead of a slot WR. He played something like 11 percent of his snaps in-line. He has absolutely no idea how to block.
