It really is pretty amazing how bad some coaches are with clock management. I was on my couch saying call a timeout as soon as Williams was tackled. I’m guessing most of us in the blog or just watch a ton of football would have the first instinct to call a timeout immediately in that situation. the rationale to come to that decision is just mind blowing to me. If the eagles had that happen i would absolutely be losing my crap just based on how dumb the decision making and clock management was.

Peyton Manning was too.  He should run the seminar for future coaches.   :D

I wonder if he'll ever venture into coaching. He was always described as being a coach on the field anyway.

Not sure what you have against Burrow.

Rookie year, he put up 264/404 for 2688 yards, with a 13-5 TD/INT ratio. In 10 games. Then his knee got mangled.

2nd year, they bring in Chase, his numbers explode to 366/520, 4611, 34/14.

That's the kind of jump you want to see from your QB from his rookie year to his 2nd year.

Instead, we have Jalen Hurts, who will struggle to hit even 20 TDs this year (he currently has 21 passing TDs in 21 starts). They are not the same.

What does this have to do with Hurts?

Burrow has had one big year, so did Wentz. That doesn't make him an elite QB. Check back in two years, do it for 3-4 years and you've shown it's sustainable.

Insanely dumb choice, and as a rookie HC, I'll give a smidge of wiggle room here. If he makes the same mistake again.......

There’s a lot of things I’d give the benefit of the doubt to being a rookie head coach. I just can’t do it in this situation. I’m surprised Peyton and Shannon sharpe didn’t just lose it on air with how it was handled and their connection to the broncos.

I’m super surprised Shannon sharpe and manning didn’t lose it more. Particularly Shannon with how close he is to that broncos organization

You brought up Burrow!!

Wentz's "one big year" was enough to get him paid as an elite QB.

Burrow showed flashes of being elite his rookie year; he got hurt in a nasty way. Returns for his 2nd year with an improved WR, and goes off with absolutely elite stats, including leading his team to the SB.

And yet, you still think he's unproven???

So we can wait 5 years before determining if Hurts is worthwhile?  Can you let his agent know?

One thing yesterday that was as many expected was how brutal the fox announcing crews were. Losing Buck and Aikman and not replacing them, an already thin broadcasting crew rotation got even thinner. They have major work to do, but they spent all that money on Brady.

I miss Buck and Aikman at Fox, but at least espn finally has someone of quality to call a game, it’s been forever.

I guess I'm in the minority that didn't like Buck and Aikman

I don’t understand your point. So, we know this style of play won’t take us where we need, so let’s just try to win some games to not win in the playoffs? Then why not start Minshew? To win maybe a couple extra regular season games? I don’t have time for that crap. If the team isn’t a legitimate contender, then take strides to make them one. We just accept mediocrity because.. it’s better than nothing.

You honestly believe that the only thing holding this team back from going to the Super Bowl is Hurts?  Well it certainly isn’t the shut down defense.

Hurts is an exceptional running QB.  So they choose to utilize that talent.  The idea is to try to win games.  Should they look to improve the position?  Absolutely.  But it is unlikely this year and unless a QB falls to the Eagles in the draft, should probably be next year.   This coming draft has too much to offer at DE and CB to want it to play out otherwise.

Is Hurts holding back Sirianni and Steichen or are they holding back Hurts?  I would argue that it is a little of both. Second year of too slow to call plays. That has to be improved.  Where is the motion?   They need to add that.  Gannon is clearly being out coached.  He is really going to be challenged.

I don’t know if you saw it but in a discussion early this month a PFF rudimentary chart of coverages was posted.  There was a footnote that stated that Hurts faced more different kinds of coverage than any other QB.  I suspect that goes to Hurts’ difficulties in reading quickly but it sure suggests that the defensive coaches find the routes run by the Eagles easier to diagnose and call the coverages. I put that squarely on Nick and Shane.

Nick talks about Hurts’ creativity all the time.  I would propose, and I think that was @justrelax’s point, that creativity won Sunday.  It certainly wasn’t Gannon’s shut down defense.

Don’t forget one of the worst olines in the league his first two years. Their oline gave up 9 and 7 sacks in 2 of their 4 playoff games. Yet still got to the super bowl and if the bengals oline held up on the last offensive play of the game for them, chase might be scoring the game winning td as Ramsey was burnt like toast. When pff has the bengals oline graded as a bottom 1/3 unit and ESPN’s pass block win rate as the 30th team that’s pretty impressive to get destroyed as much as burrow did yet get them on the cusp of a Lombardi trophy. Meanwhile before burrow got there they were a 2 win team.

I would love to know exactly how much Hurts changes at the LOS. It looked like a lot early against Detroit, but we'll probably never know the full extent.

Broncos handled that ending like it was a tie ball game.  Really dumb

We had a fairly light training camp and the starters played all of 1 series in pre-season. We greatly avoided injuries headed into the season, but injuries are part of the game and they are always going to happen. However, if major injuries happen over training camp and pre-season, that gives the team much more options and time to adjust the roster.

With Barnett done for the year, the Eagles have very limited options and only a week to patch something together. Will be interesting to see how this lighter off-season program works out over the course of the season, but I think the slow start, multiple stupid penalties, awful tackling,  and OL miss communications are due to the starters not playing for almost a month. We will see how they respond next week, but so far I'm not sure if there is a significant competitive advantage.

Robert Saleh seems to be on the fast track to getting fired. Maybe he can be our new DC next year.

Gotta believe it’s gonna be fangio who visited camp. Tbh unless the defense completely bottoms out next two weeks and shows no improvement, i tend to think the eagles wouldn’t make a move there until at least the bye week.

Imagine a QB passing against the blitz! What a concept!

Don't think it will make a difference unless they get some good pass rushers.  Saleh had great D lineman in SF.

Lol
