I saw that.  It looked more like an assignment error, rather than being beaten 1v1.

It looks like Mailata is looking at and setting for the OLB, who drops into coverage.  The rest of the OL slides right, giving Hutch a clear path.

A scheme win.

In part, perhaps. However, you always block inside out, which Mailata didn't do. Nor did he side right with the rest of the line. Regardless, it was a bad play, saved by Hurts to some degree.

FSU DE's are always intriguing.

Talking about Howie's involvement on 975.

They said early in the year before Fulgham had his stretch of good games, Carson and Doug both wanted Fulgham active on game day based on how well he practiced and his report with Carson, and Howie said no multiple weeks in a row.

@eagle45 was screaming to the rooftops to have him active

I mean when Howie meets with Jeff he needs to have his excuses lined up about why the defense sucks.  It's certainly not going to be the pieces he got for Gannon.

Of course not.  The move to land Genard Avery was an absolute coup. Howie duped another team.  Who could he have foreseen that he would bust here and never see significant snaps on the field?

There was no outside rusher, for starters. I'll take a deeper look when I have time.

Post-snap, no. But pre-snap that's the look they gave but he dropped into the flat. You can even see Malaita's head turned toward the outside in that second frame from your post.

Still an open roster spot.  What position do we think they will use it on?  I don't think it's a bad idea to bring in another DE.  We're one BG injury from Having Sweat, Jackson and Robinson as the DE.

Thanks McMullen as usual for your thoughtful input

He's such a blowhard. Brand new coaching staff with one game on film switching from a 4-3 to 3-4. Yea, they might like him, but they are absolutely going to pick his brain as much as they can as well.

Exactly. Hutch didn't do anything technically impressive there aside from having a quick first step (no doubt the kid has athleticism.)

I think Mailata blew the assignment.  I don't know why he would be looking for an outside rusher unless he thought someone else was taking Hutchinson.  I don't think it's really a whiff in the sense the he tried and missed but it wasn't scheme.

How much did Kyler Murray get?

Too much. By the metrics, Murray is better than Hurts. I do think Kliff / Keim holds him back.

I'm not worried about a Hurts extension. We may franchise him, but Howie already got burned by Wentz and he's repeatedly looked to replace Hurts.

Imagine, 50 more games of this.

Why didn't he say, "Go Iggles"?   🤔

Random question. How do waivers work with signing players off of practice squads? Are all the teams ahead of you in the waiver order alerted and given a chance to sign him when you put the claim in? Or does it get immediately approved?

Nowhere to go but up from Barnett

I'm color blind.

When the Bills (red) and the Jets (green) played a TNF color rush game, I needed to look at the helmet logos to tell who had the ball.

Have you looked into those glasses for that? I've watched a bunch of reaction videos of people that are color blind trying them out and it's pretty emotional

Hurts wasn't drafted to be our starting QB. Just inventory in the factory. I have little doubt that Lowie has been looking for our next QB since the minute they shipped Wentz off to Indy and still are.

Hurts' trade value will be interesting if they do in fact move on from him after this year. I bet you could sucker a team into giving up a 1st for him. If Lamar moves on from Baltimore they would probably be interested since they can run the same offense.

If Ravens move on from Lamar then I don't know why they'd stay with that system when it hasn't worked in the playoffs. It saved the HC job but they haven't been successful in the playoffs. I wonder if they would move away from it

Nothing to do with waivers.

Agents might tip off the PS team that someone wants to sign him to their active roster, but that's about it.

What is poaching?

The NFL allows practice squad players to be signed by other teams, but there are some rules governing the process:

  • Players cannot be signed directly from one practice squad to another. They either have to be released first or added to the active 53-man team.
  • Practice squad players are not allowed to sign with upcoming opponents, unless done so a minimum of six days before the two teams’ game (10 if the team is on a bye).
  • If a practice squad player is signed by another team, he receives a guaranteed three-week salary and will count against the 53-man roster for at least three weeks — even if released before those three weeks are over.

I'm not a big Barnett fan either. I think he's been a massive disappointment as a 1st round pick. But he's not that bad. He'll never be more than an average starter but could probably be more effective as a rotational player. For what he was being paid it was a pretty good value as long as he cleans up the penalties, which I will grant you is a huge ask as he has never been able to do that.

Jordan Davis snaps.

He doesn't seem too comfortable right now, but Ragnow is also pretty damn good. Does a decent job of clogging up the middle, i'd like to see more aggressiveness with him but think that will happen as the season goes on and he starts to settle in.
