EMB Blog: 2022 Regular Season (and beyond?) - NO POLITICS

The amount of projection that goes on on this board is so laughable. Some of you could at least try to hide your motives. Hurts gets ridiculously critiqued by the same few people here for very obvious reasons and then when you call them out the projection and ''no politics'' nonsense starts getting thrown around. Utterly disgusting.

Some of these advanced stats are quacky. I don’t know how there’s a statistical world where Hurts completed 83% of his passes on Sunday if you watched the game.

Josh Allen completed 83.9% of his passes last week, without any silly adjustments.

Hey dummy, you do realize that often times racist behavior isn't a result of malicious intent. Not all racism is a guy in a white hood. Society, upbringing, media in the 80's and 90's, etc has conditioned a lot of people to look differently at and fear minorities. This is just a fact and a lot of people indirectly judge and feel differently about black people as a result.

Simply thinking that a successful QB should be a 6'5 250 pound white guy who throws from the pocket versus a 6'2 220 pound athletic black QB who runs a lot is absolutely racist behavior indirect or not. This has been going on forever and to this day in 2022 still goes on when you have people who won't even admit that Hurts is an above average QB in the NFL and Lamar Jackson is elite. That's where these clowns expose themselves considering the majority also have negative things to say about Lamar Jackson. Hell I would be willing to bet anything that the majority of these clowns who obsess over Hurts and **** about him every waking moment think Carson Wentz is a better QB. Gee I wonder why.

Insulting post full of pathetic projection coming in 5,4,3,2,1.....

Lamar and Hurts do suck....as QBs. Great RBs though.

he at least has an arm and keeps his eyes up when he starts to scramble.

His ceiling is high, like Josh Allen high.  He still needs to prove it this year, but he has that type of potential.

Yeah but thats dangerous. You can say that about any horrible QB who can run. Like Willis- who sucks.

So is it racist if you prefer a 6'4" 236 pound athletic black guy ( Anthony Richardson )

So is it racist if you prefer a 6'3" 218 pound athletic black guy ( CJ Stroud )

Obviously racist if you prefer a 6'3" 230 pound athletic white guy ( Will Levis )

The thing all of these guys have in common, they have big time arms and can make all the throws.

I hate to break it to you @T-1000, but it is you that is actually racist.  We have been through Cunningham, McNabb and Vick, the guys who were going to revolutionize the NFL with their athletic style of play, and none of them won a title.  Then here comes Carson Wentz setting franchise records and getting home field advantage, and then his back up Nick Foles closing the deal and raising the Lombardi trophy.  After all this evidence, you want to go back to the athletic black QB, when they have not won a Super Bowl for the Eagles, and they have been given far more opportunity in Philadelphia.

Size is an issue for Willis.  Richardson still has to prove it on the field this year, but the raw potential is there.

If hurts is 6-2 i must be 6-4…

...where has anyone said the new QB has to be 6'5 and white? LOL.

Must be all the folks that keep saying that Hurts will have a Josh Allen type leap this year.

Or, the ones saying that that is impossible for him to do that.   🤷‍♂️

Size is about the last of Willis' worries. He is just a faster Hurts with a cannon. Terrible decision making. Poor accuracy. Cant read.

What makes a qb special are an ability to process quickly, throw accurately and a strong arm

hurts is weak in all the most important categories. Unlike say Mahomes

Hurts completion percentage the way they see it is like ignoring the beat face, and focusing on a pretty smile only.

Hurts fans are a drunk at 2am trying to justify the horror show they about to take home

I’d like to see my adjusted net worth, if you took out all the bad purchases, alcohol, cigs and drugs. I’d probably be pretty loaded (in a different way than I am)

Only if they have a cannon attached at their shoulder.  Tim Tebow didn't have Josh Allen upside.

I don't give a crap if the QB is black, white, brown, indigo or violet.  I want a QB that's primary mode of moving the offense down the field is his arm.   If he legs that can help him escape the pocket when necessary, that's great too.

I would trade Hurts for Mahomes (even though, he's apparently unproven) in a heart beat.   I'd throw in a few first round picks on top of that as well.  But, Mahomes is only 6'2" 225 lbs, and last I checked, he wasn't "white".   But, what he has is a great arm, and a coach that has been teaching him how to play the QB position, not to be an athlete playing QB.  Reid doesn't force his QBs to be a statue in the pocket, but he also doesn't make their running ability a staple of the offense.  Why?  Because he doesn't target guys who can't throw the ball in the draft to bring in to play for him.  He looks for their throwing ability, first and foremost.  McNabb had a great arm with mobility.  Andy did great things with him.   Vick had an arm like few others ever had and could flick the ball 70 yards down the field with almost effortless precision.... oh, and he could run too.  When Andy brought him in, he used him as a bit of a gadget guy (2009, breaking him back into football).  But, when he became the backup QB in 2010, he was QB only.  When he took over as the QB for Kolb... he was QB only, but with the ability to run when the pocket broke down.   Go back and watch the comeback against the Giants.   He did that with his arm much more than his legs.

When evaluating a QB, I never worry about their mobility.  Plenty of QBs over the years have proven that you can play exclusively from the pocket and win.   Plenty of other QBs have also proven that if the DC's primary goal for their game plan is to keep that QB in the pocket, that's a recipe for long term disappoint with that QB.   If two QBs have equal passing ability, I take the one with mobility over the statue.  But, if the statue is a better passer by a significant margin, then the mobility of the other won't make up for that deficit for me.   And I don't care if we are discussing Jeff Garcia (mobile, weak armed QB, but was heady enough to be able to navigate a WCO, but had to earn it through the CFL first), Doug Flutie (CFL to the NFL, and never could overcome his height issues, though he always had plenty of arm strength), Tim Tebow, early career Michael Vick (who never studied the game to learn how to become a better passer, because he always had his legs to bail him out of trouble, in his own mind), Jalen Hurts, or Lamar Jackson.

The NFL is a passing league.  RBs have become secondary thoughts in the NFL, because they get beat up and lose their effectiveness quickly.   If a QB runs the ball frequently, like a RB, why should we believe that his body won't also wear down and lose effectiveness quickly?    How much do hits on the QB's shoulders and chest and legs in the first half affect his ability to pass effectively when the team desperately needs him to be able to pass in the 4th quarter?  What happens to this QB after 3 years of abuse to his body from all the hits accumulated from running the ball?

There's a long list of QBs who never figured out the passing game being relegated to journeyman status relatively quickly who always had running as their top skill set.  And its not about race, its about the style of play, the nature of the game and biology... a human body just can't take that kind of punishment without changes happening.

I think one of the greatest what ifs of the last 20 years or so in football is what if Reid had Vick from day 1 of Vick's career, and how differently things might've gone. Though, the off field stuff probably still happens.

Very likely.  Vick needed to mature.
