EMB Blog: 2022 Regular Season (and beyond?) - NO POLITICS

While it can seem like that from a hundred foot level, that really is not the case. What it really is, is a bunch of old guys that have difficulty embracing a different style of QB.

Their comfort is in wrapping themselves up in completion percentages and snuggling close to terms like 'cannon arm'. Since a 'running QB' has not won a Super Bowl, then it is completely out of the question for that to ever happen, so it is pointless to even try.

Or maybe, and stay with me on this here because I know constructive criticism can go over some people’s heads, it’s that we saw this same offense last year lead to an average finish, losing to every team that made the playoffs (i.e good teams), and getting destroyed in the first round of the playoffs against a good team.

That’s what this offense’s ceiling is. So if you’re okay with that then that’s your prerogative.

Hi.  Throw out the kneel at the end.  You now have 16 rushes.  The game book has it as 8 scrambles and 8 runs.

Of the 8 runs, I only saw three that were designed for Hurts.  Two RO looks where he has a pulling TE leading him around the edge.  The other was the sneak to seal the game.  So it seems five times Hurts pulled the RO and ran himself.  Again, only eight runs out of the run scheme.

The other eight were scrambles.  And two, IMO, were designed keepers.  One was the first TD.  I'm not going to evaluate protection, but it's a fair assumption that half of the scrambles were probably Hurts leaving the pocket too soon.  An issue that all but a handful here acknowledge.

I think throwing 17 around is a bit misleading.  But who knows, you guys have a new Head of State.  Maybe it's policy now. :smoke:

Not directed at you CE, just expanding on your thoughts.

Just have to agree here.

Molecular dissection is the way of the Blog anymore, but some sense of the real world must be present as well.

Nice breakdown CE. Choices were made Real Time to run, pass, handoff, etc. .....and We WON that one. Now 1-0.

Hurts may not be the Answer, but he is certainly entertaining the question.

I'm very much against Cherry picking the stats and I agree with the Eye Test. Not a pretty showing in Detroit but we left with the Dubya anyway. Well Done?

Everybody wants Joe Montana or Pat Mahomes on a 15 year Rookie contract. Not happenin.

You roll with what you have and keep your powder dry until a viable option presents..

"We ALL thought Wentz was the guy, good to go for 10 years. We were set at QB for the foreseeable future."

Anybody disagree with that statement?

The gnashing of teeth and constant belittlement of Hurts isn't going to change the fact that he's our guy for now.

We don't have to embrace him but we also don't have to expend all this energy beating him down. We know his apparent limitations and weaknesses. We all want more passing production, better reads, more cerebral pocket presence, 10 receivers with 32 targets, etc.  If we can't get that from Jalen, we probably move on next year. Lowie may be Tone Deaf but they're not stupid.

Love the discourse, lament the incessant bashing. We Know...... We ALL know.

Got a reasonable option for 2022?

If not, These are our guys for now. Roll on. Yell at your TV,  Smoke meat and Tailgate. It's Football Season.

WTF?

Nice to see a bunch of starters already getting rest.  It’s week 2.  Can they baby these guys any more?

That was a very physical game. I hope you didn’t bruise your butt settling into your barcalounger.

You can hand wave away 16 rushes all you want, it’s still way too many for a QB to take. It’s far more in line with a RB workload which has long been my assertion

Last year, Miles Sanders only had 3 games with 16 or more carries.  Boston Scott's high was 15 carries and Gainwell was 13.  Not good at all for a QB to carry that much.

He can only get through two progressions

Is that because he can’t count higher or because it’s your limit?

I feel this is going to be a Defensive Bounce Back game.  They need to bring it to Kirk who is a horrible 2-9 on Monday Night Football.   Offensive needs to continue building and let's spread the ball around and continue pounding on the ground.

I'm so far gone.  Lol.  You think the coaches have no responsibility whatsoever to call designed running plays. You don't believe the coaches create the gameplan and then call the play calls in game day.  You apparently believe this is all the work of Jalen Hurts.

I'd love to meet you in a parking lot if you weren't such a Nancy.

Shouldn't that be alarming that the coaches would rather call plays directly for their QB to run rather than let him pass?  They KNOW he's going to scramble on pass plays so why call even more plays that will expose his body.  To call designed QB runs tells you 100% what they think Hurts strong point is.

So many of us would love for Hurts to trust the pocket and run when he has to.  We just don't want it being a focal point of the offense.

At this point, if that is what everyone wants, run the guy to death, if he gets hurt, we can move on.

Since it’s a fight, I want to fight someone too, you should see me slang Judy’s at you people

So you’re saying the team is better off getting the ball out of Hurts’s hands?

You must have a sense of the presence to understand the question. Swing and a miss....

@justrelax  Look at the Eagles pass play around 1:01.25 in the All 22. That’s straight out of Mike Leach’s playbook (Air Raid).  Vertical to the right, Goedert stack low, Brown (crossing) stacked intermediate and Smith (cutting) high. Leach stacked these so when the QB reads, in one quick glance he can see three receivers. Run so well, any of the three were open.

That’s a staple in a lot of offenses. Bill Walsh used it in his WCO. One line of sight. Start with the deep guy and work down. Your point is excellent. There were any number of plays during the game where Hurts went medium or low. The only deep throw he made, though, was the bomb to Brown.

What I like best about your comment, though is that so many of the harpies in here complain about Hurts’ inability to come off his primary receiver because he doesn’t change his line of sight when in fact he does. They’re just broadcasting ignorance, both of what the QB is doing and of play design.

Fine. Happy to hear. It’s an centuries-old question, a classic example of a question to which there is no right answer. The original post asked a similar unanswerable question.

You don't talk about another guys wife, EVER

Imagine making jokes about wife beating and calling people racist over one player on a football team.

Some truly unhinged people on this site.

Once again, a classic No Viable response Question that goes over the head of the Blog Illuminati...

Don't get triggered people, it's a No Win Scenario, old as dirt with no reasonable answer. Been around for many years. If you don't recognize that, it says more about you than the questioner.

Read a book. Expand your Horizons and learn something.

There are certainly other ways to go about that. He knows that. You likely do, as well.

Learn something.
