September 20, 20222 yr Some random thoughts from last night. Starting Field Position - I've never seen such poor starting field position in my 50 years of watching the Eagles. We had two forth quarter possessions starting from the 20 and 25. Other than that it was all inside the 20. Thankfully, that didn't really hurt us. Hurts - This was his best performance throwing the ball with several good throws both to the left and over the middle. Yes, the Vikings strangely gave a big cushion all night long but Hurts took what they gave him. A solid step forward. More needed but it was an excellent start in what hopefully will be a progression. Rush D - Stopping the Viking rushing attack was the key to me. A great job done by the front seven. Injuries - Clean thru two. Always a key. 2-0 and suddenly an NFC contender but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It is WAY early.

He shouldn't have thrown that ball but gainwell definitely should have caught it He wasn't "awful" last week as a passer. 18/32/243 isn't great but it isn't awful either. 11/23/189 in the first half is closer to awful, but it did produce 2 TDs and a FG in 5 possessions. 7/9/54 in the second half is a 77.8% completion percentage, but with very few yards to show for it. Not "awful" but it also told us nothing about his ceiling either. ------------ Last night was only one game. But with that said, more than anything, last night showed us a higher ceiling than any of us had seen in any of his NFL games ... and it wasn't against one of the bottom-dwelling NFL teams. Now, I want to see that ceiling again. ... and again ... and again ... and again

I’m more than willing to and happy to if he does it. Speaking of Seumalo. His performance last night when compared to his performance last week, where he took on the responsibilities of handling crowd noise management in addition to his regular blocking responsibilities, shows last week's performance in a very different light. @justrelax noted in his All 22 analysis that Seumalo's blocking last week was actually pretty good given the fact that Seumalo started every snap with his body turned at least 90 degrees from from facing front.

You’re saying at best he’s that and the most telling comment is the quarterback to win the SB isn’t on the roster, but yeah you’re in his corner. Don’t be a publicist. Your support is worse than most people’s hate. I agree with this assessment. We don't know what his ceiling is, but we have a glimpse of what it might be.

I actually think seumalo is criminally underrated by fans. I was super hard on him his first two years cause i really didn’t think he was a long term starter when he got the opportunity in 2017 and (besides the peters rumor) they replaced him with Wiz cause of it. He’s been an above average starting guard in the league. His only issue over the past couple years has been the injuries. If he stays healthy he’s better than a lot of guards around the league. There’s plenty of teams that would love to have him as their worst olineman. i also give credit to vaitai for becoming a starting caliber lineman in the league. That was another guy i tip my cap too cause he really made himself a lot of money with how he turned out.
September 20, 20222 yr Very good game plan yesterday. Best game of Hurts entire career as a qb. Throws were on target. Good accuracy and there were a few nice throws into tight windows. That's what I want to see from him. Stay in the pocket and throw with accuracy. Defense I thought was good especially in the 2nd half. Hopefully Gannon got his head out of his arse. Have a very good secondary. He needs to trust those guys. As far as the pass rush I thought it was ok. I expect more from that group considering all the money that has been invested there. I know it's only 2 games
September 20, 20222 yr Here are my final thoughts, not that anyone cares: Best game of Hurts career, overall. The pick wasn't the greatest throw, but it was fine. That was on Gainwell. I would still like him to run less, but at least he was smarter about it last night. Didn't take too many hits. He seemed to trust the pocket a bit more and when he was flushed out, he kept his eyes down field. I would like to see him start throwing the ball a bit more in the red zone or down that way. Eventually, teams are going to sell out to stop the run down there, specifically his. Having said that, unless a team can stop it, it's not a bad thing to run the ball, would just like to see some more passing for a bit more variation. We've been scoring well these past two weeks though, so I can't say a whole lot. I am glad that he took what the defense gave him. When we played the Bucs, they played their corners off of Smith and Hurts refused to throw to him quick. Aikman commented on it. He did the opposite last night and that's a good thing. He also beat a (seemingly) good team. Another good thing. As a passer, I didn't think he was great last week and in stretches, pretty bad. I think that him finally going over 300 passing yards and people pounding their chest is a little silly and premature. It was a stupendous game, but there's far more bad than good (in terms of passing) thus far. I'm not going to crown him, by any means, but this is a great start. He needs to now do it again. That's the next step. I have said all along that I hope he proves me wrong. He did last night. Let's hope he continues. For the first time I'm actually very, very happy with how he played. As for the defense, I don't fully know what to make of it. Cousins normally kills us and they have a ton of weapons, but at the same time he is GARBAGE on Monday nights. They were all over the place. I do hate JG, though. I'd like to see more blitzes because when we DO blitz, good things seem to happen. The DL has been underwhelming. STs have been poor and Covey sucks. All in all though, go Hurts and go Birds. Great game. Now let's go beat the crap out of Wentz.
September 20, 20222 yr I also loved how they got Smith going early. Smith, AJ, and Goedert can do a lot of damage. 7 targets 7 catches for Smith

With as much attention as aj, goedert and smith are going to get, he’s going to see some great coverage and he can hit off for a big play cause of it. On his td, the design (and throw) was great as we had smith open in the middle of the field and Watkins open deep.

That's more of what we want to see week in, week out. Some of his slides if you want to call them slides looked awkward and a few times I was nervous his foot was going to get caught up the way he was doing it. I didn't like the HC calling QB runs with under 8 minutes to go and the game in control. Keep feeding your RB. Don't expose your QB anymore than you need to. Sanders as getting chunk yards. Let him run. Who knows what the hell the Vikings were thinking on defense but I'm glad Hurts was able to do what he did. Now, do it again and again. More games like tonight will go a long way in convincing many of us he can be the guy.

September 20, 20222 yr It was good to see Hurts not running around and doing a better job in the pocket - look what happens when he stays calm and plays smarter physically; the throwing games looks drastically improved, the RBs look better, the OL can protect an area and he takes a lot less hits by doing that. Very few will complain if Hurts keeps on doing that all season; his issue has been maintaining the standard in games against better teams. 12 hours ago, BigEFly said: Kind of like military parades these monarchal ceremonies, the revolutionary in me suggests money could have been spent elsewhere. Feudal practices and colonialism should have disappeared a long time ago. It’s nonsense that "democracies” grasp at monarchy and feudal rank positions at this point in civilization. But as you say, the show was snappy. Considering how many billions we have wasted on COVID, Ukraine and now capping energy prices, the cost of yesterday was an absolute drop of water in the wider ocean. And as a society, something the silent majority wanted and needed. And it's been 8 days where the vacuous, the politicians and the famous have been far away from the daily headlines; it's been wonderful.

You losers don’t reveal your true selves until he struggles, but yeah you’ve been a supporter all along. 🥱 Jalen looked awesome in the first half versus Min. Didn’t know he had that in him. Last year, he looked bad versus the Giants down the stretch and Bucs in playoffs. No wonder he had so many detractors.
