Agreed. I honestly can admit I didn't think I would ever see Hurts read a defense like that and spread the ball and make accurate passes throw after throw like that. I need to see more like you said, but this is the step in the right direction I needed. If you look at the schedule right now there aren't many elite teams left. Maybe the Packers? Cards looked good, mainly the way they came back. Colts, Cowboys aren't good this year. 12+ wins isn't out of the question if Hurts keeps this up. One game at a time though.

If the Eagles lay an egg in Washington next Sunday it means nothing.  There is absolutely no reason that he should not follow up that performance with a similar one next week.

Yup. Were the Vikings actually good or did we beat another bad team? Time will tell.

Fun Fact, Slay had more catches than Jalen Reagor last night

They did scheme up that jet sweep for him - which is a good call against our 3DL tite front, as the play gets to the outside quickly before the LB can spill and forces the CB to shed/fill.  I figure that Sweat needs to be on alert when he sees that jet motion.

Hmmm... do I have more confidence in Hurts or Gannon?  That's an easy one actually.

Mr Foxworth, how Fing hard would it have been to look up Quez and Avonte's names before going on the air?

He probably asked Stephen A. Smith before going on the air what their names were and smith told him just mention that reagor looked good for the eagles last night.

I am staying home and not going with my wife to her folks for her dad's birthday this weekend.  Mostly because our dog is a little old and we like to limit the amount of times we put him in the kennel.  I wonder how it would go over, if I ended up putting him in the kennel after she leaves on friday and driving out to Kville for the Vols game and then driving to DC for the Skins/Eagles game.  Her birthday is next week, would that be a bad idea?

The only way to make it worse is to leave the dog with bcarty

It's still very early in the season and a lot of the games still resemble preseason contests.  Last week Hurts looked like a 56% passer, because he was.  Last night he looked more like an 84% passer, because he was.  The truth is somewhere in the middle.  Is Hurts a 69.8% passer, as where he currently sits?  I doubt he's that high but there are 15 more games to find out.

Frankly, how good DET or MIN are (or will be) is irrelevant at this point.  The Eagles are done with them and thankfully now as it stands would hold a playoff tiebreaker over both (although DET will be nowhere near playoff contention).  You play and hopefully beat the teams in front of you.

The Eagles were able to win somewhat easily last night because Cousins was downright awful.  The Vikings had 2-3 chances to get back in the game and shot themselves in the foot repeatedly.  Thankfully it was to the Eagles' benefit.

I wouldn't overreact to this game, anymore than I overreacted to the TB loss.

Hurts is a work in progress, with all young players there are two tough questions, what is their ultimate ceiling and how long will it take them to get there.

Hurts doesn't have a great arm, but it's more than strong enough to make the throws he needs to make, that shouldn't be an issue, lot's of QBs have had HOF careers with a similar arm.

He's still learning to process what he sees, he's faster than last year, but there's room for improvement. If he continues to improve in that area, this game won't be a fluke.

His ability to run, not just speed and elusiveness, but he actually runs like a power back, is a great element to pair with an improved passing game, not to substitute for one. He takes a few hits running, but his ability to scramble and feel for pursuit means he takes far fewer pocket hits (and blindside pocket hits are the most dangerous).

@justrelax

dude whats up with dickerson downfield?? Timing seems way off. Is he just brain cramping?

Can’t tell without the all-22. I thought the Seumalo downfield call was bogus but I’ll wait on that too. The OPI on Smith was definitely bogus.

As regards Dickerson, he may have flashed back to his college days. They’re allowed three yards in college but only one in the pros. Not an excuse, just a thought.

Hmmmm you better have a hell of a birthday gift for her cause i have a feeling she finds out…. Tell her you are taking her to Scottsdale… in February lol

Seriously, what were the titans thinking?

I was very happy with Hurts' performance last night. It seemed the coaches really drilled it into him to have more patience in the pocket. He hung in there longer and did keep his eyes downfield, which opened up some nice plays from him.

The OL is a mess with these penalties. I wonder if the Vikings made it a point to the refs the Birds were getting away with a lot of illegal man downfield. Is it because Hurts sometimes holds the ball too long or is the OL just coached to get up the field quickly? The OL as a whole played very well. There was a constant wall around Hurts that almost never got broken. Clean up those stupid penalties and this is a top 2 OL again.

Our defense is the big reason he was bad. Cousins also had 3-4 insanely high level throws. Elite stuff. He also threw 5-7 passes he shouldn't have because he got great pressure. Had Cousins been clean, it could have been bad.

I'd add Herbert to that list.

I pondered him. Wouldnt protest too much but would like to see it sustained a while longer before i put him in tier 1. Certainly appears to have all the tools to get there and probably soon

Some non Hurts stuff from last night:

1. Slay blanketing Jefferson in single coverage set the tone.  It's risky, but when you go head to head with your opponent's greatest strength and decisively win that matchup, everything else has a way of falling into place.  I don't think that he (or anyone else) will reliably erase a true #1 WR from the game, but he did last night.

2. Mailata still has some work to do against the speed rush.

3. Thank God the 12 personnel is over.  Brown/Smith/Watkins/Goedert are a great set of weapons.

4. Josh Sweat, despite the deserved facemask penalty, is growing into the most disruptive player in this front 7.

5. Reddick's presence on the field has been a net negative for the defense through 2 games.  Blame him, blame Gannon's utilization of him...whatever it is, it's not working at the moment.

6. Sweat is the only DL who is doing much of anything disruptive.  The DT's are not generating much push at all.  The massive disruption of the Vikings' respected pass attack was equal parts the secondary balling out with Cousins crapping the bed...with a touch of Sweat and a sprinkling of timely blitzes.

7. While I do believe that ST is being eroded from relevance in the modern NFL, whatever left of ST that is still impactful needs a lot of work for our Eagles.  This looks to be a team that will lose at least 1 game because of ST shortcomings this year.

I think the Titans were in a tough spot.  They are a running team with a QB that isn't good enough.  They weren't going to contend for a SB this year.  Do you want to shell out $100m for a WR or recoup a first round pick?  I get what they did.

I made an EMB contest on draft kings. Something I have wanted to set up for a long time.

Its only 2 dollars to enter. No commitment for the year but it would be nice if people stuck with it. Each week is a new season. No getting stuck with a crap team for the entire year.

Link to join contest- https://www.draftkings.com/draft/contest/132529241

Set lineup prior to thursday night kickoff.

Weekly opportunity for bragging rights, as well as a little bit of money. The more that play, the better the prize.

Created a thread for this in the fantasy football thread, but wanted to spread the word a bit.

If you join, make sure you choose "EMB WEEKLY Contest". There is another one called "EMB Contest" that was created in error.

Agreed. The offense pretty much goes through the King. Simmons is also up for a contract extension. I'm a big fan of Burks

With this team potentially looking at a deep playoff run, are we satisfied with the roster depth for the long road ahead or are there any pieces worth looking to bring in, such as DT or DE?

They can't do that.  There is a limit to how many call ups a player can have in a season.  I believe it is either 3 or 4.

Oh really?  So at some point he will be the 53rd.  That stinks.

They technically can do it all year. There is no limit to how many times they do it. BUT, their is a limit of 3 times they can do it without exposing him to waivers. So after 3 times he would have to clear waivers every time going forward to be put back on the PS.

Irv Smith ruined the vikings last night lol.

Totally different game if he came up with those 2 catches. one was a 3rd down the other would of been a 70 yard touchdown.

But good on the Eagles forcing the ball, or making cousins throw to that turd

Also what would be totally different is how the Eagles responded if those catches were made. You can play that same game with some of the bad plays and calls the Eagles got.

The first Slay INT is the result of a Hargrave pass-rush win. He hits Cousins.

On the Maddox INT, Cox pushes the C back FIVE yards. Cousins has to backpedal to throw, so Maddox has more time to read and make the INT.

No, the DTs are not Aaron Donald but they're doing what they are supposed to.
