He was throwing the ball well no doubt.  However, with Smith, Brown, Goedert with Watkins mixed in, to score only 24 points isn't good enough.

Not scoring in the second half had nothing to do with Hurts. The first drive was derailed by false start penalties by Mailata and Lane. The second drive was derailed by a holding penalty on Mailata. The third drive was derailed by Gainwell not being able to catch. And the fourth drive was basically all runs to bleed the clock.

I’m less concerned with the overall game on Monday night. They scored 24 and the game was never in question during the second half, so the total points doesn’t bother me. I’m more concerned that they went all in this year and what might happen if they decide to give Hurts a big deal which will limit the players they can add around him.

the defense and Irv Smith bailed them out.  I didn't feel comfortable until the final whistle.

I don't know how much falls on Hurts and how much falls on the playcalling but they need to get Smith in space.  They need to push the ball downfield more.  There is too much talent and too much invested at WR and TE for them to not be getting in to the endzone frequently.

Judging by Hurts’ advanced splits it’s mostly scheme.  He’s thrown 43 passes in the first half of games and only 20 in the second half.  The Eagles led by 17 points in the second half of each game, so they may well have called a more conservative ground attack to take time off the clock while moving the chains.

I thought Hurts didn’t play very well in the 4th quarter against the Lions.  Against the Vikings I think Sirianni just stayed conservative as long as the Vikings weren’t scoring.

So the QB has nothing to do with overcoming penalties?  Not blaming Hurts for the 2nd half but questioning who it falls on.  The INT was a mixture of a forced high throw by the defender and Gainwell.

I think it's 100% fair to be concerned that your 1st round WR you traded up for, the $100 million WR that cost a 1st and 3rd and the 5th or so highest paid TE in the league don't have a TD between them.

I don’t think anyone is fine with it but it’s still a pretty small sample size.

This has been me.     MNF... Tom Hutton botched snap on a gimme FG against Dallas.

Nah, l’m much closer to tears with big wins not losses.

The last game at the Vet was rough, but that was stunned silence - quiet walk down the ramp, march of the living dead. No tears, just beers.

Not when they have they are respectively 6th and 20th (TE 3rd) in receiving yards.  Both have been well worth the investments made so far even with Hurts at QB

It's a small sample size for this season but a continued issue from last year.  Like @TorontoEagle pointed out, in 22 starts, Hurts has 22 TD passes.  He averages 1 TD per game. Not sure we should expect a drastic uptick all of the sudden.  Maybe he will prove me wrong and start throwing TD after TD but I'm not holding my breath over it.

Maybe I'm greedy but I don't think wanting a starting NFL QB, who has one of the top receiving groups in the NFL, to have multiple TD passes per game is that crazy.

No doubt, the yardage is a great thing.  How do we want to measure success though?

What's better though for AJ Brown.  1300 yards and 3 TD or 800 yards and 11 TD?

It's tough argument.  Gaining those 1300 yards might put them in position to run the ball in but that's not a given.  Could be a lot of empty yards in there.

At this point in the season yards are absolutely a better indicator of a receiver's performance in an offense.  Some of the top 3 leaders in receiving TDs right now include Jahan Dotson, OJ Howard, Curtis Samuel, Dontrell Hilliard, Devin Duvernay, and Zander Horvath. TDs are flukey as hell in the NFL, especially over a 2 game period.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree that we have to see Hurts perform (as a passer) like he did Monday a LOT more before I feel comfortable shelling out the big bucks.  I just don't think using Goedert or Brown as an example of why makes any sense.  Both have performed well up the expectations of their contract at this (very early) point with Hurts at QB.

I do, pretty regularly actually. To, you know, burn calories.

If the team is winning and each of the skill players are getting their touches/targets, I doubt they or most of us care whether the TDs are on the ground or through the air.  Most teams, given no time constraints, if they get the ball to the five are going to try to run it initially. My guess is that on Hurts long TD run, Goedert wasn’t ****ing that he didn’t get the pass.  Rather, I suspect there was a glint in his eye when he got to turn the tables on Smith and abuse him all the way down the field.  I saw today that Smith is in concussion protocol.  Suspect that was when Goedert flattened him at about the three yard line.

It’s not greedy, but again Week 3 didn’t even start yet. I’m still not sold on Hurts at all. Week 1 was a game I wasn’t impressed with. Week 2 is what I and many wanted to see. I think everyone, whether they want to admit it or not, wants to see more passing efficiency and TD’s out of him. If the trend proves correct another couple weeks it will be more of a concern.

I’ll worry about who’s scoring the touchdowns when the offense isn’t scoring many of them.

This is a first world problem to be nitpicking two games into the season.

The NFL does not want you to feel comfortable until the final whistle.  They make much more money when you are uncomfortable.

No way in hell am I giving Hurts a top QB contract if he averages 1 TD pass per game.  Not even close.

Why?  If the team is averaging 4 TDs a game and over 30 points a game.  Why is the 1 TD passing a deal breaker for you?

"It isn't crazy, but it also has no context.  It ignores all the other parts of the team game ... and it is a team game.  It isn't a 1 on 1 passing drill in Training Camp.  It is 11 on 11.  The QB is only one player out of 22 on the field at any time.

For example, with Big Play Slay's performance fresh in our minds, how does the performance of the opposing Defense factor into yor TD passes per game quota?

If they truly went all in this year, they wouldn't have traded their third first round pick for another one next year. On the contrary, they've been spreading out their assets for the continued rebuild rather than putting them all in the basket for this year.

This stuff is so laughable, not to mention flat out dumb.

44 posts?  you are laughable

Kelce brothers are doing a podcast each week on their day off. I listened to yesterday's one (my first time listening) and I thought it was really good! They're both entertaining, insightful and genuine. They cover a range of different topics from the NFL week. Well worth the time!

This is freaking amazing ...

Here are some highlights from former Eagles in Week 2:

  • Quarterback Carson Wentz has a bit of a reputation of falling apart at the end of games, but he wasted no time in Washington’s Week 2 matchup with Detroit. With over three minutes left in the first quarter, Wentz got swallowed up in the endzone for a safety.

  • Former Eagles DE Casey Toohill suffered a concussion in the first quarter, and SAF Jeremy Reaves made three special teams tackles.

  • Agholor and Mills pop off for the Patriots What a difference a week makes. Wide receiver Nelson Agholor didn’t have a very notable Week 1 performance for New England, but finished that up with a big Week 2. He caught all six passes thrown his way for 110 yards and a touchdown. And the touchdown was nice.

  • On defense, safety Jalen Mills had himself a day with six total tackles, one pass breakup, and an interception.

  • Linebacker Jordan Hicks had just three tackles, but broke up a pass and nabbed an interception.

  • Cornerback Chandon Sullivan got his first start of the season against his former team, and stayed on the field for 93 percent of their defensive snaps, recording three total tackles.

  • And then there was Jalen Reagor who knew what was coming the second he saw the Vikings schedule. The wide receiver asked for more as he took the field on special teams to a chorus of boos — to be surprised would be naïve, and so would not understanding why. Reagor did get his first offensive snaps (10) for the Vikings this week, resulting in one 7-yard catch and one 17-yard carry, plus two punt returns for five total yards.

  • Jordan Poyer gets 2nd INT After Week 1, the Bills restructured Jordan Poyer’s contract so that he had more incentives on the line. He wasted no time trying to collect, adding his second interception in as many games on Monday night against the Titans.

  • Flacco finally wins for the Jets  As Zach Wilson still gets back from a knee injury, the Jets have relied on Joe Flacco — which is always a bit risky. They didn’t win in Week 1, but managed a huge late-game comeback on Sunday against the Browns, to win by one point, 31-30. Flacco finished the day 26-of-44 (59 percent) for 307 yards and four touchdowns, with one fumble.

  • Safety Will Parks was signed to the Jets’ active roster last week, and DE Steven Means (Ravens), CB Daryl Worley (Ravens), and WR River Cracraft (Dolphins) were all elevated for game day.
  • Raheem Mostert is definitely back for the Dolphins, with the running back having 11 carries for 51 yards, in addition to three catches for 28 additional yards against the Ravens. For Miami’s defense, linebacker Duke Riley had four total tackles, and safety Eric Rowe had six, all solo, tackles.
  • Head coach Doug Pederson led the Jaguars to their first shut-out win since 2018 over Frank Reich and the Colts, 24-0.
  • After getting just two defensive snaps in Week 1, safety Rodney McLeod saw 49 percent of the defensive snaps on Sunday for the Colts, and made 6 total tackles.
  • Tight end Zach Ertz led the Cardinals offense with 8 catches on 11 targets for 75 yards.
  • The Denver Broncos beat the Houston Texans, 16-9, and there were former Eagles on both sidelines. For the Broncos, LB Alex Singleton had 5 tackles and 2 pass breakups, and CB Ronald Darby had 1 tackle and 1 defended pass. For the Texans, LB Kamu Grugier-Hill finished the day with 5 total tackles, CB Tremon Smith had one kick return for 22 yards, and punter Cameron Johnston had five punts for 268 yards and a 64-yard long.
  • Wide receiver Mack Hollins got considerably more action in Week 2 for the Raiders, making 5 catches on 8 targets for 66 yards. It was similar for wide receiver DeAndre Carter with the Chargers, who finished the day with 3 catches for 55 yards, plus two kick returns for 43 yards, and two punt returns for 17 yards.
