What did you expect, a love story? Reminds me of some stand up I saw a long time ago who said "my Dad is an eternal optimist." Once I told him "I just heard that the guy down the corner was killing people and burying them in his basement." And my Dad thought for a second and said "well at least he owns his own home and cleans up after himself."

It’s great for marketing to slap a team logo in your office and boast that affiliation…but the second there is a re-injury or extended recovery, instant lawsuit and blame. That’s one reason I have a ton of respect for Peyton. He did have a botched c-spine surgery that cost him his arm strength and one year of playing…never sued, never blamed anyone.

Covey at PR is not good and it's the one big miss from Roseman this past offseason. If Covey has another bad game, then we'll go get a PR. It's not a hard position to fix off the street. Worst-case, you just get a sure-handed guy who can fair catch.

And that’s harder to find than you might think.

He isn't good at securing the ball, he has already muffed a punt. He isn't a big miss because he's an undrafted free agent. He just isn't a good punt returner. He gives the Eagles nothing there. One of them speculated that maybe Cordarrelle Patterson being a good trade deadline target but both agreed it doesn't seem likely the Falcons would actually trade him. Although he's never really returned punts in his career, he'd be more of a KR and a RB to split with Miles.
October 1, 20222 yr I'm going to add this post about Amazon revenue in here (as well as the other thread that it's in), since a lot of people read the blog. Going to be raining the entire game so the conditions will be far from ideal for fielding punts. I said it in the two weeks heading into the season and I say it now, Howie has to be looking to make a movie to get someone in here that can return punts and kicks. It would make this team that much more dangerous to now be able to start with drives that aren't 80+ yards everytime.

October 1, 20222 yr Even though Covey wasn’t on the 53 man roster til now, it was obvious that the Eagles always viewed him as their 53rd player and were always planning on him being put on the active roster. But because of the rules allowing them to activate players "for free” off the practice squad thee times, there was zero reason for them to hurry up and put him on the roster until today. They were able to play that game for three weeks. That’s the reason they were carrying only 52 guys all this time. And before anyone says, "But they could have been using that roster spot!”, just remember that they would have to then cut that player (or someone equivalent) today and he would have to clear waivers in order to be re-signed to the practice squad. As it stands now, he (whoever he is) has already cleared waivers and is already on the practice squad. It’s actually intelligent thinking. I also like Chachere. Not looking forward to having to don rain gear and sit in the weather for four hours. PITA.

Agreed on Covey, but I think the big miss could still be the idea that they didn't need a better PR option. But... they didn't exactly put any resources to mention into adding Covey. He was a lottery ticket UDFA signing. But this team generally likes to go low cost, low reward at PR.

October 1, 20222 yr Tua got up from a hit last week and started to wobble/collapse. It looked concerning. Somehow, that was spun as something spasming or giving out. Maybe by the team, maybe by Tua himself. Then he has no objective or subjective symptoms all week. What exactly is an independent specialist supposed to do? It’s easy for all the literal Monday morning qbs to say he never should have played…

That statistic wouldn't have been possible with better returners. Be careful what you wish for. You're proving my point. We keep having to do these long drives because have some of the worst punt and kick returners in the league. You'd think given the history of some really good returnees for this franchise over the years and major all time franchise and season defining plays some of those returnees have had that people here wouldn't be so defensive and big on such below average returners. Would be a good move for Howie to find a way to bring one in. With the roster as stacked as it is its a bit of a luxury to be able to focus on getting a good returner in here and that just insts tly has a big impact on the team and helps our great offense. I think back to when the Seahawks traded for Percy Harvin at the deadline. Of course they were expecting a bigger impact at WR for them but he came up huge for them in the return game that post season and in the Super Bowl.
