Couple random observations

Seumalo - I just watched the local NBC post game show and he walked into the locker room on his own.  No boot either.  Guessing he has a sprain and probably a fairly bad one.

Covey - I'm just about done with him.  He's a twig out there and I expect him to get snapped in two and lose the ball on every return.  I can live with that BUT he has to be able to come up and catch the ball.  That's the #1 priority for him.  He hasn't done it yet in four games.  Give me Reno Mahe.

Roster - The really nice thing (credit to the coaching staff and also to Howie) is how everyone on the roster to the last man contributes.  The chemistry on this team is super high right now and there is clearly talent and that combination always bodes well.  Still way early but if we can stay healthy we are going to be in the mix in January.

If you haven't already done so, wastch the post-game press conferences of Hassan Reddick and Miles Sanders.  They epitomize your bolded statement ... clear evidence of both the chemistry and the attitude.

I personally am fine with Covey, but want to hear what @FranklinFldEBUpper has to say.

Yeah, keep him in the same role as Sirianni’s right-hand man. I like what Johnson did at Florida as OC.

Fair enough, but Patullo has the familiarity advantage with Siri from their time with the Colts. I don't have a good enough feel about either one yet, but hopefully like last time, it's not a problem for us until after we win a ring.

My god, what a quote.

Really liked seeing Chachere return yesterday. Not sure why he wasn't on the team the first few weeks, but he's really great as a gunner on ST.

She’s no smarter or more intelligent than most of the eye candy broadcasters.  Intelligence?  I have no idea and neither do you. She’s made gaffes just like all of them.  Seems to me that your stunned at how well she talks or something, for some odd reason.  Interesting 🤔

Not stunned at all.  I simply took note of the fact that her comments were sharper and deeper than Dungy's and Harrison's, and I consider both Tony and Rodney to be significantly better than average announcers. In that specific head-to-head comparison of three, she was clearly the winner.

I have never seen her before last night, so I am personally unaware of any past/prior gaffes.

So ... not very interesting 😉

Think of all the sports announcers who can't ... the list is very, very long covering sports of al different shapes and sizes.

Think of all the myriad of NFL on air individuals.  Where would you put her?  ... top half? ... bottom half?  ... top 25% ... bottom 25% ... top 10% ... bottom 10%

Or to make it simple, think of the three individuals in tonight's SNF halftime ... Maria Taylor, Tony Dungy, and Rodney Harrison ... how would you rank those three in their ability to communicate with intelligence and insight?

Maria, then tony, then my blockhead frenchie

then rodney

Just watch the game. If your eyes told you that was the worst defense in the league then you just don't know what you're watching.

Lions

Last in the NFL in yards allowed.

Last in the NFL in points allowed.

Wanna tell me again that I don't know what I am watching ??

I’m fine…perhaps elated…that the KR/PR is the most inadequate situation on the roster.  So from that standpoint, it’s great.

But in isolation, I don’t see any reason to be fine with Covey, even considering the low standards necessary for that job these days.

Shot's fired at the drunken owner.  On the good news front, maybe he just made himself available at the trade deadline.

Two chances to pin them deep twice and failed. I think that’s bad.

Your original post was quoting net yardage as a problem. When you look at the actual kicks, the low net yardage is easily explained and isn't really a big deal.

The Jags started at their own 17, 20, and 28 after our three punts. That averages out to their own 21.6 yard line. I think that's just fine. Net yards can be very misleading.

Jags punted from their own 17, 25, and 28

Eagles punted from their own 29, 47, and the Jags 47

Shocking that the Jags had a higher net punt average.  If the Eagles second two punts pinned Jax at the 1, that would  be a net punt average of 49, IF, they pinned them at the 1 both times.

People complain that folks are unhappy after a loss, complaining about the net punt average when you punt from midfield 2 out of 3 times are actively searching for something to complain about.

Yup. I kept him over Wallace every time I did a roster breakdown. Funny how he already stands out on ST and I still couldn’t even tell you if Wallace has played a snap.

Time for some Stoutland Magic

Started by giving up a pick 6.  It was a PBU by the defense, nothing ugly about that.  Good hard nosed football.  The PBU ricochet then was up for grabs.  Nothing ugly about that.  It happens all the time.  Then they gave up a 14-0 deficit What about that was ugly. Jacksonville executed..  The Eagles defense had a broken pass coverage (bad) and a forced fumble (good).  All in all it was a reasonably typical NFL drive. The and were in danger of falling behind 21-0... until the unforced error by Lawrence dropping the ball while rolling to his right on a 4th down. You minimize the fact that the final play of that drive was a 4th down, and the drive had produced only 26 yards for Jacksonville. It was a good (but not perfect) defensive effort.  Nothing ugly about it.  Good hard-nosed football.   The game really turned on that play.  From that point on, the Eagles controlled the game.  It was a game that didn't include much in the way of deep passing and it was a game with a lot of turnovers - fortunately, the vast majority on the part of Jax.  But, it definitely wasn't a 'pretty' win. Agreed.  Does that make it "ugly"?

And there was a PAT that was right on target that took a hard right turn and was pushed past the upright at one point What was "ugly" about that?... and it seemed that both teams were unwilling to try a FG of any significant distance. Again, was that "ugly" or simply a game being played in the elements?  As a point of comparison was the Shady McCoy game in the snow against Detroit "ugly" because of the weather conditions?

The nice thing is I feel like we have natural replacements for them. We couldn’t effectively replace Reich because Flip was already out the door. There was nothing behind Schwartz if he were to go.

I feel good about Brian Johnson and Dennard Wilson.

I feel especially good about the pair of 3rd round picks we'll get when they do a good job and take HC positions.

I wouldn't read too much into the punt return game yesterday.  Siri is obsessive about turnovers and there was a lot of wind and rain.

Judging by his actions, I suspect Covey was told to let the ball hit the ground and turn the game over to our OL.

I haven't watched the game yet, so all I have to go on are my impressions while watching the game live in person. I was disappointed that he let the ball hit the ground so often. He was either afraid to field a wet ball in a downpour (understandable) or he was told to avoid doing so (possible but I'm not sure). I also thought he made an idiotic decision to return a kickoff from inside the endzone instead of taking the ball out at the 25 on a touchback. Overall, not a good day for him. But as I said last night, it's foolish to try to evaluate that game through the lens we normally view a game. It was NOT a normal game. Just be happy with the end result and move on.

Speaking of lenses, my binoculars, which I use about 98% of the time during an Eagles game, were useless yesterday. Everything fogged up. I tried for about a quarter to look through the fog but I realized it was never going to work so I put them in my bag under the seat. It was miserable trying to watch action 100 yards away with the naked eye. That only added to the bad mood I was in throughout the day. Fortunately we won so that brightened things considerably. But overall it was a lousy, lousy day.

The INT was a horrible decision.  There were 3 defenders and no window.  First really bad throw Hurts has made this year.

I respectfully disagree with both Les and you Manu.  Look at the individual punts

A.Siposs punts 53 yards to end zone

That punt hit the ground at about the 8 yard line and would have been downed inside the 10 if it hadn't taken an unfortunate bounce and rolled past the Eagles players who were in position to down it. How could Siposs have improved that punt to make it not blech?

A.Siposs punts 38 yards to JAX 9

How would you have improved that punt to make it not blech?

A.Siposs punts 43 yards to JAX 28

That punt could have been a bit longer, but if it were the returner wouldn't have been tackled in his tracks by Chachere.  A net of 43 yards is decent.

One less issue...

Over the past three weeks, we are in the top-ten in fewest penalties per game (5.3).

Why would the Jets be willing to trade Berrios?  He was their Philly Special QB yesterday.   I just don't see him as being super available.

Speaking of Philly Special ... did I see one successfully executed in one of the games yesterday?
