Haha literally 4 of the top 5-6 teams in the nfl,  Never seen worse

Also this QB class sucks. I have been trying to hype it up for months, but it in all honesty sucks.

Stroud is a pipe dream, Young is too small, Levis is Wentz 2.0, Richardson is way way too raw, McKee is nothing special, Van Dyke’s days as starter are numbered.

Tomlin's first losing season.

Steelers will be picking in the top-5.

I think if NO is a top 5, that with a second 2023 1st rounder and maybe that extra 2024 2nd will get us to 1 overall. Stroud is possible to acquire, especially if a team with a QB gets that pick, like Chicago or NYJ

Davis Mills, Baker Mayfield, Marcus Mariota, Carson Wentz, Daniel Jones...

Two things:

1) he scores and he sees he can score. Any other decision is secondary to that one.

2) the shot is deceptive because it’s late to the party. You can see the safety is leaning out. A half second ago that receiver was not a shoo-in to score. It’s fourth down, remember. I’ll post a shot tomorrow to show this more clearly, once the all-22 is up.

3) because I can’t count, see #1.

4) He's taking a lot of shots.  I don't like it.

If it was on first down around mid-field, I'd agree.

This was at the goal line.  I am OK with it.

Been saying it was overrated for months, because it's following up a really bad class. If this was following the 2017 class, it wouldn't have gotten nearly as much hype. Though I think there's a clear difference between Bryce Young and Stroud. I don't know what people see in Stroud, he just doesn't do it for me. Bryce Young really doesn't either, but he reminds me of a more accurate Hurts with not as much athleticism. Young has that moxie at least, but I would not trade multiple picks to move up and get him either. Any team that gives up a haul to move up for Young is nuts. Save the picks for a generational QB prospect.

Regardless, if Hurts is gonna be the future, then Eagles fans must hope QBs go in the top 3, to push Will Anderson down.

Yes, I've heard that argument.  He ran over 3 defenders at the 5 to score a TD earlier this year, after he'd already achieved a first and goal situation on that play.  And he does it again here, after running for 10 yards on a QB draw, taking on defenders on the previous play. And then he took on multiple defenders on the last 3rd down of the game as well.  17 carries, multiple runs where he's taking on lots of defenders.  Prudence needs to be exercised a little more.  And the coaches need to help him in that.

Not yet….unless he wants to play on 2nd round pick/4th year money.    He has surpassed my expectations so far, but at the end of the day it’s still only one month of play…and not against the greatest competition. I’m still not convinced that he’s going to have a long NFL career

You have to keep in mind that paying the type of money that these QBs are getting means they have to be truly ‘special’…in my opinion anyway.

I honestly might be OK with keeping the QB factory rolling and getting another young capable player for 4-5 years at a reasonable number…and being able to keep the team around him stacked because there’s money to do so.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see some teams take this philosophy since the numbers are getting ridiculous … And never pay the big money for a quarterback…until they find a guy like Mahomes that you can’t say no to

Not eligible until the end of the season for an extension.  He’s playing on 4th year second round money next year no matter what happens.  Depending on this season goes, not even 1/4 gone so far, will say a lot about the nature (and there will be some) of any extension talks that Howie has with his agent next summer.  Hurts would have to do a team friendly deal next summer as I see it.

At this point he isn’t 2017 Foles. (At the end of 2017, Foles had a season at 27-2 including a Raiders game that got him a display in the HOF and a relief group of games ending in the Super Bowl as MVP).  Heck, if Hurts keeps this up, he might be Foles in 2013.  My point being that he hasn’t yet shown enough at that point for the extension to be anything but favorable to the Eagles if executed next year.

There is no hurry.  Sure, he could cut off negotiations like Lamar Jackson did last summer but he has less leverage than Jackson did. Jackson’s salary is a fifth year guaranteed. Hurts is the 4th year getting second round money.  Howie will probably try to play that into a team friendly deal by dangling bonus and guaranteed money in front of Hurts next offseason early while going to see top draft QBs perform.  "Jalen, we like you but we do have options.”  Probably why agents find Howie less than trustworthy.

Plus,  Howie has options if he doesn’t get a team friendly.  See how Hurts does next year.  If he plays well again, increase the offer but also tag him.

Hurts will start in 2023 and we will draft a QB in this upcoming draft. Both can be true. Minshew is a UFA and Sinnett/Book/Strong stink.

33 minutes ago, Aerolithe_Lion said:

I agree with the first part but question the second part. Hurts has played welll enough not to immediately draft his replacement, didn’t mean that 5 games was enough to give him 200m$.

But for the Lamar thing, if that’s your sticking point… then there are only, what, 5-6 franchise QBs?

The Lamar thing was just an example

I don't watch college ball so I asked about the prospects and get these replies lol

So far, Hurts is putting up all the measurable indicators the team is looking for in a QB1:

66.7%, 280 passing YPG (with the lead, not bloated by a lot of late-game garbage stats in losses), 4 TDs and 2 INT.  I was impressed he was able to put the pick-six behind him and rebound after a slow start.  He finished 16-for-25 in bad conditions, after starting the game 2-for-5.

It’s still early and the opposition has been weak — but there are few really strong opponents on the Eagles’ schedule this season.  I mentioned last night GB, TEN, and DAL are pretty much it this year.

The divisional games will be huge.  The Giants defended Hurts pretty well last season and Hurts has yet to play well against DAL (neither did the previous QB, FWIW).  If Hurts can win 3 of those 4 games and the Eagles win the division it will be hard to imagine the Eagles not extending him after this season.  If, OTOH, Hurts is still slowed down in the division matchups then it’s hard to say which direction Howie will go.

I’m looking forward to the Week 6 game at home against DAL.  Huge opportunity for Hurts

I'm not sure if the "run most are the most injured" observation for QBs holds water: https://www.filmstudybaltimore.com/new-study-quarterbacks-that-run-most-are-not-injured-most/

A lot of QB injuries happen when they play the traditional role behind the line of scrimmage.

No argument against the common sense not to take hits and Hurts does seem to slide more. As an aside, un this case, I very much enjoyed, fan-wise, seeing our QB put Lloyd on his butt.

It was 2013 that he threw the 7TDs

Yes it was.  However your change is a failure to understand "and” is a connective conjunction coupled with my use of an adverbial clause to denote a point in time.  So at the end of 2017, the 2013 season had occurred and so had the Super Bowl MVP.  But at the end of 2013 the latter had not occurred.

Good post…agree for the most part.  If it truly was team-friendly then that’s another matter entirely.  And yes I was picturing a hold out/in scenario…though I know they don’t often happen at the QB position

Hurts is doing great but we built a great team around him

if he gets greedy and try’s to make top dollar QB money he will be less successful as we won’t have as much talent around him

I hope he gets paid but takes a fair deal and builds a legacy in Philly

Frequency of taking on tacklers means more opportunities for injury.   Taking on multiple defenders simultaneously is even more opportunity for a leg to be caught, etc.

My concern isn't as much about injury where he misses games.  Injuries happen to all QBs.  But, my concern is two fold... taking on defenders, especially when avoiding the hits is possible means unnecessary risk.  Secondly, my concern is for the lack of longevity of a QB that runs this much... and in short... its a very short list of QBs that have run this much, and an even shorter list of QBs that take on defenders with this level of regularity.  What happens to a QB's shoulder over years of putting his head down to run over defenders?  Nothing good, that's for sure.

I almost went on the Eagles site today to check injury news. But I didn't. My boycott since they shut the message board continues. Does anyone go on there?

I never really went there even for several years before the old boards shut down.
