So the Mailata injury after the MRI "isn’t as bad as first thought.”  Yet first the first thought had him on the sidelines throwing around a lineman trying to work back in.  Ok…

Maybe... second thought... or third thought was to have him on the sidelines trying to get back in.  🤷‍♂️

I can't remember but I think it's like Hurts will have less than 25% of the team's rushing attempts.  Right now he has like 35% of the attempts.  I do think that includes kneel downs which probably should be excluded.  I don't think excluding kneel downs would put him below the 25% threshold.  Maybe @Alphagrand has it written down somewhere because he's who will get the whiskey.

It was a wager on rushing attempts as a percentage of passing attempts.  Not sure if Hurts has been below 25% at any point so far

Unpopular take…

If the Eagles get a high pick from the Saints it’ll be interesting to see what position they address if a pass rusher they like isn’t available… if that’s the case, my next position to upgrade would be… LT 🙂

It is an interesting take and I agree that Mailata is a beast but injuries are a question. Still, I'd go RT given just Lane's age. One of the two. That is also under the assumption that Bradberry and Slay continue as the CBs. What a luxury it is to have to man capable CBs.

Of course it's unpopular. Mailata is 25, a beast, and seems to have put the back issues behind him. This recent injury was a freak thing.

That said, if an Ickey Ekwonu type who excel across the line were there, I'd jump on that. Would love to figure out if Skoronski is that guy.

Overall, it's looking like a strong edge rusher class so I think this is all a moot point. I'd either draft one or accept a bounty for a QB.

I think they have the luxury of scouting and coaching on the offensive line to find quality guys in mid/later rounds that pan out for them. Mailata, Seumalo, Driscoll, and Kelce are proof of that. They need a defensive end if that picks ends up being top 10.

If we get a high pick, I’d be looking for a QB ransom deal to trade down.

if we can’t do that, OL or DB is always fine with me.

Would it be crazy to look at WR? Getting the right guy out there could take an already formidable offense over the top. We have the brute, we have the technician, could we find someone with size and speed who can block but also take the top off a defense?

Not sure I’d be looking to replace JM though. Get a good depth player behind him, sure, but you can’t spend a high pick when you have a young star at the position.

Crazy stat I just read: we haven't had a field goal attempted against us this year. Wild.

Top 10 pick and assuming you don't need QB, WR or O-line, would have to be pass rusher or corner.

Well, we actually did. Washington’s Joey Slye made one against us but Jordan Davis was penalized on the play and they took the points off the board for a first down. They ended up not scoring anyway so it worked out for us.

I get what you’re saying though.

I mean, WR is far down the list of first round needs, but if the right guy is staring you in the face I don’t think it would be totally crazy to take one. Especially if the coaches are convinced that Hurts can evolve into more of a pocket passer.

I still think our best bet is going to be a trade down if the Saints pick stays in the top 5, maybe even top 10. This is a really deep QB class, and there’s a good chance 3 go in the top 5. Might even see 5 in the top 10.

If we can pull off one of those ransom deals where we get 3 first rounders plus a bunch of lower picks, we have to do it.

Another thought I’ve had is it wouldn’t be crazy to take another QB even if Hurts continues his incredible form. His style of play is going to eventually lead to injuries I’d look as early as our own late first round pick if we could pull off that massive trade with the Saints pick. Those two moves together would piss off a lot of fans but I think it would be a smart move.

If we have a top pick and take a left tackle when we have a 25 year old beast and a valid backup, Howie needs to be shot into the sun.

Kill a team trading up for a QB or spend it on a pass rusher.

Who is the valid backup at LT you are referring to?

See that’s where I’m just not 100% agreeing with most of the fanbase. Right now, of the starters, JM is the weak link of the OL. Now, that is an outstanding problem to have. He’s a good player with a high ceiling who could become a star but he’s not a star yet, imo. Definitely not in the same league as Trent Williams or Peters in his prime. Personally I think him and Lane are playing the wrong sides but I get not trying to fix greatness in Lane.

But of course DB and even WR could be an option.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it change before Sunday.

I would be…they assume most people want to watch Brady

The only reason we should be taking a OL high in the draft would be to replace Isaac Seumalo if we dont bring him back. Other than that the 1st and 2nd round should be heavily focused on Dline and CB. We have too many expiring contracts and older players at those positions.

Driscoll. He isn't great, but he can spell Mailata for a couple of games.

I get it, he's injury prone too.

Having said that, you don't spend a top 5 pick on a backup.
