This is a big if but......let's assume Nola comes back and is himself.....Now you have Sanchez, Wheeler and Nola as your 1-3 and Ranger as your #4 (if needed). With Lazardo being able to go to the bullpen in the playoffs. And if they do bring Painter up, I say put him in the bullpen too! Bullpen of Lazardo, Painter, Strahm, Keirkering, Duran, Robertson and maybe Robert (while ol' yeller'ing everyone else!!) Pitching wise, I think they'll be in great shape. Now the lineup.....Turner, Harper, Schwarber, Casty, Bohm, Bader, JT, Stott and Crawford/Marsh (LF). That line up definitely looks a tad different than the crap they tried rolling out yesterday.

LA is a beast but struggling and their pitching really doesn't impress me. The Mets....I'm still not sold on them. The Cubs....see comments on the Mets. The two biggest issues in the NL are the Brewers and the Padres in my opinion. Hopefully, the way the seeding ends up....the Phillies would only have to play one of them.

Nola is only good for a few innings before he implodes. Put him in the pen 😂

Underwhelmed is how I feel

1 good splash and that was it. Pretty much what I expected. This team is going nowhere and it’ll only get worse next year

Man they needed more offensively

Ok now here’s the real question. They are going to make the playoffs. Let’s say they go to the playoffs, win 1 series, and then quietly bow out.

What the hell do you do then? Sign Schwarber to more money while he’s a year older, bring up Painter as your 3, lose Ranger, put Crawford in CF, and watch the Harper/Schwarber/Turner/Castellanos/Realmuto nucleus get 1 year older and worse?

What’s the point of running that back? Now that team may not make the playoffs in ‘26.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this lineup fall on their faces again in the playoffs and not even have a chance to use Duran.

And then have Dave Dombrowski talk down to us in cleanout day about how they didn't get the right bounces and they hit some balls hard and how their chase rate improved from last year's playoffs.

... and then proceed to do jack crap again in another offseason.

Boom championship

Imma feeling whelmed.

I'm wondering how much of an interest they had for Suarez with the Dbacks. That's the guy I wanted. He is a rental so I couldn't assume the asking price was too astronomical. He would have finally given the Harper the protection he has never had since Hoskins was here. I would have given them Bohm. Arizona would then have a 3rd baseman for another year under team control. DD really screwed this team, especially Middleton with the horrendous contracts to Walker, Nola, Kepler, and Romano. How much more could they have done whether at this trade deadline or even this past offseason if they didn't have those scrubs on the books?

All Doval has to do is go across town since the Giants were already in New York to play the Mets starting tomorrow.

Price probably was too steep. Also, he's returning to Seattle.

It is obvious Middleton is directing Dombrowski, he does not want to give up guys like Painter. I think DD would deal all these guys if he had the freedom

He's the guy we traded for Christopher Sanchez

Middleton doesn’t want the Phillies to go back to the Franco days and stink for 5-10 years before getting back to being competitive again

I tend to agree that i think some of these guys who are staying are cause Middleton doesn’t want what happened after 2011 where they had basically Dom brown as a prospect who failed and a pool that was nothing there after him. Realistically though the prospect pool should’ve been better if they drafted better, spent more money internationally and made better trades for prospects when parting guys off

Lmao the dude Fing sucks and he won’t admit it.

They are never going to get THAT bad if they don't do a concerted tank job, given what Middleton is willing to spend. But every meaningfully above average bat in this lineup is well north of 30 and they have absolutely no hitting help coming up through the minors for years besides Crawford, who is more of a slappy hitter anyway. They are going to have several lean years on the horizon no matter what they do at this point.

Yeah I take that DD comment as a "don't hold your breath" on Painter and Crawford in 2025.

I think the writing is kind of on the wall here for 2026.

- If I understand Bader's contract, he's on a 1 year rental. His $10m mutual option is an awkward number. He's either going to play well down the stretch and opt out for more or he's not and the Phillies won't want him anyway. So for 2025, that pencils Crawford into CF.

- They will cave into the pressure and overpay Schwarber, a popular clubhouse leader having a career year. So next year they'll have a lesser, older version of Schwarber at a higher salary.

- Ranger Walks. Ready or not, here comes Painter, penciled in as the #3.

- They add another flea market LF/CF hybrid as Crawford insurance in CF and Marsh competition in LF.

Those are your 2026 Philadelphia Phillies.

I think if he is playing well for the Phillies, we could extend him before the off season, or whatever date he has to opt in/out.

3 year deal might be enough to get him to forego his option.
