Official Philadelphia Phillies Thread - Still can't hit for crap

Nola is only good for a few innings before he implodes. Put him in the pen 😂

He would be the worst bullpen pitcher ever. No power and needs time and rhythm to get into a groove. He’s the 4th starter if he at least shows something when he comes back.

Yeah I take that DD comment as a "don't hold your breath" on Painter and Crawford in 2025.

I think the writing is kind of on the wall here for 2026.

- If I understand Bader's contract, he's on a 1 year rental. His $10m mutual option is an awkward number. He's either going to play well down the stretch and opt out for more or he's not and the Phillies won't want him anyway. So for 2025, that pencils Crawford into CF.

- They will cave into the pressure and overpay Schwarber, a popular clubhouse leader having a career year. So next year they'll have a lesser, older version of Schwarber at a higher salary.

- Ranger Walks. Ready or not, here comes Painter, penciled in as the #3.

- They add another flea market LF/CF hybrid as Crawford insurance in CF and Marsh competition in LF.

Those are your 2026 Philadelphia Phillies.

I haven’t been here enough in the past few months, but it’s good to know your pessimistic genius extends beyond the blog. Unfortunately, I agree with everything you’re saying. 😂

Which is where they are headed now, on the road to basebball hell

I thought their deadline was ok. Better than previous years. The issue is Dombrowski did a **** job in the offseason where you had 2 major areas of concerns. Only way they were fixing both is if they landed Duran and Suarez. Which was slim based on prospects they wanted to give up. If Dombrowski fixes one of the OF spots instead of giving Kepler $10 mil and they went out got Duran and Bader we’d probably be much more excited. Instead it’s underwhelming even with Duran cause of the crappiness by Dave during the offseason made it hat we needed a spectacular deadline for any of us to feel confident in the lineup and bullpen.

we are and this is how out of touch this ownership is, they keep thinking that they can create this 07-11 contender with just prospects in reality, it's not easy to do, that's why we were in the dumps for more than 10 years, everyone keep saying draft better, like it doesnt matter how great your scouts are if the draft classes arent very good, you are not going to get many stars, that's the reality of it. you have to make deals and hopefully you get lucky with prospects and not playing them for sake of playing them, that's the losing mentality.

What a jersey

Because we have our cleanup hitters batting 2nd and 3rd

Schwarber has a 159 OPS+

Harper is 137

It’s because you also have Bohm and Castellanos who aren’t cleanup hitters batting cleanup. Also the dodgers have Ohtani hitting 1st, Betts 2nd and freeman 3rd. Machado is hitting 3rd and tatis 1st. Soto hitting 3rd/lindor 2nd. Judge hits 2nd or 3rd and Bellinger top 1-3. They just have an actual cleanup hitter behind them in Stanton. Kyler tucker hits 2nd/3rd for the cubs. Mariners have Raleigh hitting 3rd (like 75% of the time). Alvarez for the Astros has been out for a while and they are always changing their lineup. Even so he predominantly hit 3rd. Blue jays have Vlad jr hitting strictly 2nd or 3rd all season. I can go more into this. Those teams have better production as guys batting behind those guys are producing more. Heck there’s been times where schwarber hit cleanup so some of that is his production.

There’s plenty of teams that have their best hitters batting 1-3 and not in the cleanup spot. They simply have have better cleanup hitters or just better production. It’s more because Alec bohm and castellanos aren’t cleanup hitters and we’ve known this know for 2+ seasons

That's because the philosophy changed from having your best hitter in the cleanup spot to moving them to the top of the order to get more at bats

True. But your argument still doesn’t hold just cause ours guys are batting 2nd and 3rd. Other teams doing that too and are having much more success with their cleanup spot than us. the analytics still proves what’s been discussed and talked about the Phillies lack a 4 hole/middle of the lineup guy behind schwarber and harper. Been this way since 2023. It’s been pretty obvious Castellanos and Bohm aren’t 4 hole hitters/cleanup guys or good enough consistently to be batting behind schwarber and Harper. The analytics are baring that out particularly this year.

The fact they are dead last of all the contenders in OPS+ solidifies that. And it’s not exactly just slightly behind them. The second worse team is Toronto with a 114 OPS. Phillies are -26 points behind. It’s not good. This again goes back to the fact for 2.5 years they’ve needed a middle of the order right hand power bat to push guys like Castellanos and Bohm back into their rightful spot

JFC we are still starting Kepler

Kepler vs. RHP: .205/.308/.366/.674 10 HRs 28 rbi

Bader vs. RHP: .266/.350/.432/.783 7 HRs 24 RBI

Bader isn’t in Philly yet?

Believe Dave said he and Duran were available for Friday yesterday

Even if Bader were here, we still don't have enough hitting.

Dombrowski asleep at the wheel.

I think it's a mistake passing on Luis Robert Jr.

I saw a note where he was picking up in July.
