Um…legit no one associated bullpen with cows being killed until these idiots pointed it out.

FFS, I am a Hindu. Cows are my God. And I still think this is insane.

Not only that, they completely ignore the fact that a barn is still a part of the commercial meat making process.

54..the number of decades before another World series win!

What are the Phillies doing? Nothing.

I know that free agency hasn't started yet, but they could be doing some things.

Declining player option for Cutch , releasing Odubel.

What else?

So get rid of the best LF and CF options they have? sounds like a great plan

I have thought about what it means briefly. I just assumed it was where they kept bulls during the rodeo before they are ridden. PETA is crazy.

World is going to crap and those people have time to worry about this bull?

That's offensive to bulls.....

Yes, because we need better players.

Is your plan to roll with Cutch and Odubel next year?

My plan is to make room.

Spotrac has the following for 2022:

McCutchen $15mil salary or $3mil buyout

Herrera       $11.5mil salary  or $2.5mil buyout

$26.5mil salaries - $5.5mil buyouts = $21mil saved toward signing a free agent OF

Go get Castellanos, Schwarber, or Marte. Trade for Buxton.

PETA Wants MLB to Start Calling the 'Bullpen' an 'Arm Barn' over Treatment of Cows

PETA is asking Major League Baseball to change the name of the bullpen, a term used since the 1800s to describe the area where pitchers warm up, to "arm barn."

The nonprofit organization argued in a news release Thursday the longtime baseball term isn't "animal-friendly," per TMZ Sports.

"Strike out the word 'bullpen,' which references the holding area where terrified bulls are kept before slaughter, in favor of a more modern, animal-friendly term," PETA wrote.

Tracy Reiman, the organization's executive vice president, added: "Words matter, and baseball 'bullpens' devalue talented players and mock the misery of sensitive animals."

While it's possible baseball's use of the term bullpen derived from actual bull pens, there are various theories about how the word became associated with pitchers, typically relievers.

Arm Barn is stoopid. Bullpen is just fine the way it is.

If they must, they could call it the Relief Pitcher Warm Up Area because that's what it is.

Why doesn't PETA take issue with the leather wrapped around the baseballs?

PETA is more worried about how bullpen makes them feel than the use of actual animal products in the game.

What's next? Batting Cage? "Makes us feel trapped, like caged animals....blah, blah, blah, My nooni hurts."

Great article on Phillies offseason by Todd Zolecki at MLB.com

Phillies 2021 offseason FAQ (mlb.com)

International players can sign in January 2022 ( I think ).

Phillies are rumored to be favored to land 16 yr old Venezuelan SS prospect.

Article from Tim Kelly of PhilliesNation.com

Phillies reportedly are ‘favorites’ to sign highly-touted Venezuelan prospect – Phillies Nation

Maybe we see this kid in the big leagues in around 7 or 8 years. Maybe he's trade bait.

Phillies should get in on Japanese and Korean players.

Go get OF Seiya Suzuki if he gets posted.

Hiroshima Carp Could Post Outfielder Seiya Suzuki For MLB Clubs - MLB Trade Rumors

It's only money. Let's get it done.

Article by Steve Adams of MLBTR.com

If I am Phillies I offer, 5yr deal with club options for years 4 and 5.

Recent deals are 3yrs at $7mil/yr, 2yrs at $12mil/yr.

Offer 3yr escalating salary $7mil, $9mil, $11mil, club options at $13mil and $15mil

If he can play, it's a good deal. Suzuki made $2.852mil playing for Hiroshima in 2021. He hit 38HRs.

Posting system - Wikipedia

Halfway down the Wiki page for the posting system is a table of recent postings and signings.

Posting for Yusei Kikuchi is interesting. 2018 Seattle Mariners 4yrs $56mil. $10+mil posting fee (~20%) with club option to extend, which then increases posting fee $18mil.

^µ The posting fee is based on a guaranteed contract value of $56 million. The base contract guarantees three years for $43 million plus a player option for a fourth year at $13 million. The Mariners, however, have the right to sign Kikuchi to a four-year, $66 million-extension after the first three years. If the team option is exercised instead of the player option, the Mariners will instead pay a total of $18,050,000 to Seibu.[80][81]

My wishlist:

Marcus Semian

Starling Marte

Raisel Iglesias

Exactly as I said it would go. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.

Did anyone really think theyd pick up these options?

The sun will also come up tomorrow.

They got $38 million coming off the books between McCutchen, Herrera, Bradley and Neris.

Hoskins should get a big raise in arbitration or they will sign him to an extension. Suarez is also first year arbitration eligible.

Wheeler and Nola get a bump in their salary.

These numbers include McCutchen's $15 million option being picked up, I don't think it will:

Add $12 million for them buying out Cutch with a $3 million buyout and they should be $97 million under the tax.

Plenty of flexibility to add at least 2 big FA signings

Castellanos opted out. Biggest fish. Go get him.

What is the first day that we could sign him or other free agents?

I am faxing/emailing his agent a contract this morning.

5 yrs $100mil

Dombrowski needs to strike fast in free agency, before a potential lockout on Dec 1.

Free agency is a competition. You don't win by inaction, waiting, or holding onto your money.

Go get the premium players now. Go sign the 2nd tier, good value, complementary players.

The Phillies need LF, CF, SS, 3B, SP, Closer. Maybe DH.

Get after it now. Playoffs next fall.

Surprised on Torreyes. He was a nice bench player last season.
