I actually dislike removing nola from the game now. He finally looked like he settled in and got back on track and was at 81. I’d have tried to get him through the 5th and have Alvarado go to tucker to start the 6th or whenever he came up

I feel the same way but I sort of stopped questioning the hooks from Thomson.

Nola was uncomfortable all night and that was the closest he’s looked to settled in.  Of course, Nola through the meat of their order with how he’s pitched tonight could get ugly fast.

I think the scoreless, easy 5th they just had was worth it.

Real quick work for Alvarado. Have to think they’re giving him another inning?

Really the guy who’s killed nola was tucker. Has 4 of the Astros 5 RBIs. I wouldn’t have let tucker face nola again at that point I’d go Alvarado.

I’m guessing he’s definitely out there next inning to pitch to the lefty tucker.

Phillies aren’t getting the better end of the strike zone tonight.

Tied game 5-5

Top of 6th inning

2 outs

Let's go PHILLIES!

They weren’t even close to those.

Abreus 98 looks 5mph faster than Alverados 101

Has a little more movement to his stuff.

Well the good news is Alvarado didn’t have to work for his three outs tonight.
Bad news is I really don’t trust Eflin.

The moron who didn't know the words to our National Anthem surely has to help the Phillies.

Yeah I’m surprised with Alvarado only throwing 7 pitches that they didnt let him go to gurriel and Mancini (who’s really struggling) even though they are righties.

My HS coach always obsessed over first pitch strikes.  It’s one thing to miss a bit out of the strike zone when you are dancing around a dangerous hitter.  I struggled to understand how these guys get behind in the count against the back end of the order.

Just in general I really hate when managers go so over the top about righty on righty and Lefty on lefty. If your right handed pitcher isn’t a very good then it makes no real difference. The Astros have zero left handers in their bullpen. And yet they are one of the best pens in the league. I think if you have a stud lefty or righty he’s likely great against both. And Alvarado has been that.

It caught the plate but was probably a bit low.

Please get eflin out of here. He’s all over the place.

These first pitch balls from Eflin against weak hitters are inexcusable.

I don't get the hate for Bohm.

That’s enough Eflin for tonight, jeez.

He’s lucky Maldonado runs slow as crap

Nice play by Bohm. Still think Alvarado should have finished that inning.

can someone explain why Alvarado was pulled? Eflin continues to look terrible.

He was an absolute butcher in the field early in the season… that’s the only hate I’ve seen. He’s clearly worked hard and has been actually really good defensively in the postseason.

Much less hate for him now. He was awful fielding the first month and a half of the season. Had the 3 error game. He’s been great fielding since about mid May. Stott and bohm have both grown leaps and bounds from where they were in May til now.

While I agreee it would have been more comfortable to keep Alvarado in, I think it’s more about trying to balance going for the win here and not hamstringing themselves for tomorrow.
Don’t want Alvarado’s pitch count to skyrocket then he can’t go again tomorrow. It was a calculated risk.

They were worried that the Astros had four consecutive righties in the lineup. This goes back to what I said a couple post back. If your  right hander is going against righty but he’s just isn’t very good and doesn’t have very good stuff that match up really doesn’t make a difference. Alvarado with how great he is pitching is a mismatch whether you’re left-handed or right handed. And he only had seven pitches.

I’m guessing it was partially the right handed thing and also the bottom of the lineup which isn’t that good for the Astros that they thought they could get one inning out of eflin doing such. Plus wanting him for tomorrow
