Official Philadelphia Phillies Thread - Still can't hit for crap

Considering they asked the owner to sell the team and now he’s not building the stadium, it feels like the MLB wants them to move to nashville

Rumblings about the Phillies moving Turner to a different position if his fielding doesn't improve

From what I've been hearing, MLB if they really want to, could force the owner to sell. MLB does not want the team to move. The owner doesnt even want to be in Tampa anymore which is why they cant get a stadium deal done.  His goal apparently is to go to Nashville.

Ive been watching a podcast from a former MLB GM and he said MLB could basically make the Tampa owner's life a living hell such as taking away his revenue share. (The commissioner has this power) He explained that MLB has more power than owners like to admit. Part of being a franchisee is the ability of MLB to pull your team if it feels you aren't living up to your end of the bargain. I have a hunch they either get a stadium done in Tampa or he sells.

Walker is still garbage

I’m headed down to Clearwater on Tuesday. I’ve never been before. Please let me know the places you’d recommend for food and drink. I’m staying in Clearwater Beach while I am down there.

So, unfortunately i can't help with restaurant recommendations because I just did a day trip. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you can't go wrong with whatever you pick at the stadium. If you watch the Phillies show on YouTube, those guys have recommendations out in town where you can go.

If you do want to spend some extra money, go to McGillucuddys and spend $25 for a 24 oz beer bat. It's pretty cool I think. Here are the pics. The larger one is the one I bought and the one with the home plate, the guy sitting next to me bought. Nice couple who came down from King of Prussia for the weekend to catch a spring training game, which was their first. Have fun!!

The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

Matt Strahm (left shoulder impingement)

Status: Could begin season on 15-day IL

Matt Strahm has not pitched in a Grapefruit League game since March 5. He was dealing with inflammation in his left shoulder, but is now throwing pain free. Strahm threw from 75 feet on Saturday, March 15 and will throw again from 90 feet on Sunday. Rob Thomson told reporters, including Phillies Nation‘s Ty Daubert, that there is a "chance” he could be ready for Opening Day.

Strahm thinks he’ll be ready for Opening Day, but he’s leaving it up to the team to make the final call. He gave a thorough explanation to reporters on Sunday regarding what went wrong with his shoulder. "It’s the positioning that my arm falls into when I get it back,” Strahm said. "So it’s basically the inflammation out of there allows the muscles to work how they’re supposed to. With inflammation, swelling shuts off muscles. And then with swelling, as I was coming back, it wasn’t stabilizing my shoulder, and then my shoulder was banging around. So, as long as we keep the inflammation out, the swelling out, it will be good.”

As Todd Zolecki of MLB.com noted in his story, a potential injured list placement for Strahm can be backdated three days before the beginning of the regular season. He can return as early as April 8 against the Braves in Atlanta. — Last Updated on March 16 by Destiny Lugardo

Franzke and LA were talking about the Beachcomber in Clearwater Beach on a radio broadcast about a week ago.  Apparently players and other personnel will eat there a few times each Spring Training.

Shephard's Beach Resort has a nice beach bar.  I think most of those resort hotels have some nice bars.

Good to know. As it turns out, I am staying at Shephard’s. I will check out the Beachcomber. Thanks!

Anyone have some bold predictions on the year. I got a couple

1. i think Sanchez makes the jump to being the best starter on the staff

2. Alvarado is the Phillies best BP arm

3. realmuto hits over .250 with RISP

4. Stott hits over .275

5. Rojas makes a nice jump as a hitter and becomes their everyday CF

Your #5 is one helluva bold prediction. Ill just give 1- Trea Turner will be top 5 in MVP conversation.

Rojas is better than marsh and should start
