Frankly the Phillies should see if they can get skubal. Use miller and painter as prospects involved. Then use luzardo as part of the package if you aren’t going to extend him next offseason and he’s gonna walk. At that point you’d have Sanchez, wheeler, skubal. Potentially could try extending Ranger at that point.

Figure out everything else later. This is gonna collapse anyway in 3 years. At that point can trade Sanchez and skubal and cash in on prospects.

I’m surprised with what crap they had at the back of the pen last year they didn’t at least give him a shot. I’m guessing they probably thought they could find guys they liked better rule 5 in developing.

Padres front office is a Fing disaster. Why would you trade what you did for Mason Miller and then a couple months later want to deal him. Not likely getting close to the prospects you gave up for him which imo was an overpay

Their owner died before last season and his brother inherited it is now trying to sell the team.

The owner died in December of 2023. The brother John took over last February. So John had to sign off on making the deal for miller as they made that mason miller move before the trade deadline. if you were trying to sell the team and cut costs then it was better to keep those cheap (extremely high ranked) top prospects rather than trade them for miller and then try to recoup. Especially considering the padres bullpen wasn’t their issue at the deadline

Meh. Defense is an upgrade over Nick but there's a reason why Texas dumped him. Not getting my hopes up. Probably another free swinger with no plate discipline.

this would make a lot more sense if he was the RH platoon with marsh. if you had Crawford in one of the corners, the platoon of marsh/Garcia in the other and then you went out and got Harrison Badder to be CF then outfield is likely solid. That said i don’t like the outfield if they are just going marsh, Crawford and Garcia. too much risk assuming Garcia just bounces back after 2 declining seasons and 32 and a rookie OF
