Not close to the same.  There is no bonuses or additional years on the contract.  It is a 1 year base salary, and those guys all probably signed a new contract and didn’t play on the franchise tag.

I didn't say anything about bonuses, additional years, etc.  I mentioned that franchise tag and trade deals happen... not UFAs.  You said the NFL is not and has never been a 'sign and trade' league.  And, while that's true for the most part... franchise deals like those highlighted do happen, and have happened far more frequently in recent years than had been happening.  Of course, the Eagles won't be tagging Seumalo, and I hope that they actually will just resign him.   He won't be super expensive.

I hear what they are saying, but I think that it also is short sighted for Shanahan to do 'the same thing' without regard to who the opponent is.  Sometimes you need to throw in a wrinkle based on who the opponent is and mitigate your 'normal' look, especially in the playoffs.

Tough day for the pillars in here.

What I miss?

My opinion on the eagles not playing anyone:

The NFL as a whole was pretty down this year. Talent is there. Teams underperformed, which lead to mediocre teams having excellent records.

Despite that, the eagles managed to be rungs above pretty much every other team. Without even discussing the play on the field, that feat from a roster building perspective is impressive on its own. Howie managed to zig while the rest of the league zagged. And he came out on top.

6ers processed at a time when the Celtics and Bucks also rose to power in the east, and the Warriors dominated this era in the west with Phoenix also rising. Among others now.

Eagles managed to do it when no one else really was. Perfect timing to cease this opportunity.

On the field, what teams were dominant from start to finish this season? The eagles. And who else? Maybe Buffalo and KC. Thats it. Did people expect us to just play Buffalo and KC every week? I mean, who the hell did they want us to play?

When you look at who we played, it becomes more impressive if you go back to those weeks and see how our opponents were preforming at that point in time.

Lions- No one knew what to expect when they almost beat us in week 1. They went on to really suck for the next few weeks. By the end of the season they were a team I dont think anyone wanted to see in the playoffs. They werent "on a roll" because it was week 1. But we caught a glimpse of their potential before anyone else did. They were tough to stop on offense. Hutchinson was a game wrecker, and should be DROY.

Vikings beat green bay in week 1. Got dominated by us in week 2. And then ripped off an 8 game winning streak. They beat a very hot Dolphins team, and even beat the Bills. Hard to say a team was hot in week 2, but that team was already primed for a long win streak. They just couldnt start it against us. That was a quality win.

Jaguars- They won 2 in a row heading in to their meeting against us. And I cant recall the reasons why, but a lot of people were concerned about that game. Jags were looking like a team who might make a run. The met us and lost momentum. They ended up finishing the season on a 6 game win streak, and even gave the Chiefs a decent game in their playoff loss.

The Cowboys- They were what? 5-1 with Rush as their started. They were hot. Media was all over them. It wasnt some weak win to "beat them with their backup QB." It was an accomplishment. We stopped a freight train with a head of steam.

Packers- By the time we played the Packers, Christian Watson had hit his stride and gave Rodgers a bonafide weapon on offense. The packers got hot, and like the Lions were another team no one wanted to see in the playoffs. They were tough to stop on offense. The eagles took the wind out of their sails right when it looked like they were getting going. They and the Lions juuuust missed the playoffs but both teams looked like they were poised to do some damage if they had gotten in.

The Tians- They were 7-2 in their previous 9 games before meeting us. Their only losses were to the AFC Championship teams- Chiefs (by only 3), and Bengals (by only 4). They had an elite run D. An elite run game to control the ball and keep it away from us. They were looking really tough. Until those poor guys had to take the field against us. The eagles again got to show just how good they were.

The Giants (blowout)- They were 7-5-1 at that point. They knew they werent as good as us. But they were beginning to feel pretty damn good about themselves. They had a winning record, sparked by a Barkley resurgence. He looked as good (actually better) as he had since his rookie year. He was healthy, and for the first time ever, learned to run behind his pads.  They knew they werent super bowl contenders. But they thought they belonged as playoff contenders. But they got embarrassed when they met us.

Giants in the playoffs- Giants were feeling more confident. They had just beat the eagles. The eagles were coming off a month of bad losses with their backup QB. The Giants regained a bunch of key defensive starters they didnt have in their first embarrassing loss. Slayton was on the roster giving them a dynamic down field threat they didnt have in the 1st meeting. They were a different team this time. So they said. They may not have expected to win. But they thought they could play us close this time.         Nope....

49ers- They were on a 12 game win streak. League's #1 defense. Way too physical for everyone else. Bad matchup for the eagles, supposedly. Everyone that plays them loses the next game because they are too beat up. Eagles bent them over their knee and spanked them like they were little toddlers. Im not talking about the QB situation which some stupidly thing was a confounding factor. Im talking about our OL pancaking Bosa, and Kinlaw, and giving Werner and Greenlaw fits all game long. "Denting the defense" with our OL. A little guy like Gardner-Johnson putting on a tackling clinic against the feared Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey.  And our pass rush being so fearsome that it put not 1, but 2 QBs out of the game, on perfectly legal, clean plays. They got blown out. Maybe they coud have scored 7 more points if they had Purdy or Johnson for the remainder of the game. But, they only managed 7 points in a half and those QBs didnt look like theyd be scoring much more anyway. But they sure as hell were going to get hit a lot more if they even tried passing it anymore.

Every time a team started thinking they were pretty damn good, they met the eagles, and got humbled in a painful way.

Momentum is meaningful. Regardless of record (some were good. Some were too early in the season to look good) these teams were playing good football at the exact moment they met the eagles. These teams were hot coming in to those eagles games. Some were building momentum. Some already had a full head of steam. And every time some team started to think they were pretty damn good, they met the eagles, and the eagles showed them they werent worthy.

The narrative that we didnt play anyone is complete and utter BS. We played some of the hottest teams all season long WHILE they were at their hottest. Other than the Lions we didnt catch teams before, or after their streak. We caught them right at the most unlucky times. And we were always the team to tell them, when no one else could-- Eh... youre not that hot.

Suh and Joseph had minimal Cap hit.  Probably would be the same in 2023.  Howie will let them know he will again be calling in mid-season.

Regarding Cox what do you think his actual market value is for any team other than the Eagles?

Finally, the Eagles still have Noah Elliss on the PUP.

Sign Hargrave and DT can wait a year before needing a reload.

I agree with that. And that was kinda the point I was making that the money we have may force a decision between Bradberry or Hargrave and I think Hargrave is the choice. Then we use whatever our first pick ends up being, on a CB.

Hey nice novel. Trying to get it published?

If the Eagles haven't played anyone, who has? Everyone thinks every team outside of the top few suck. So who has played anyone? No one has played anyone, I guess.

Yup.  Sometimes you need to play your opponent, not just call your game.  When the Eagles met Dallas game 1, the gameplan sure seemed to be 100% targeted at Micah Parsons.

I think this is worth noting. The Chiefs got a run for their money from the Jaguars. Yes the Jaguars. They struggled to beat Cincinnati. But also had a kinda tough time against the Jaguars.

Far from dominant post-season so far.

Looking at those 2 games, that makes you feel pretty good.

Especially the Jaguars. If THEY can almost beat KC, and we are like 5x better than Jacksonville....

Hey, KC is in the super bowl. Theyre thinking theyre pretty damn good. Can they be the next victim who is feeling themselves and then meets the eagles to receive a good ol ass whoopin?

Good post here and to add onto it, the Eagles beat the piss out of these teams as well and really had their way with them. Some of the games like Detroit, Jacksonville, and Green Bay they scored late to make it look like a closer game. But the gameplan all season long was always jumping out to a two-three score lead, parking the bus, running clock, and that sometimes led to a late score by the opposing team which didn’t mean anything in the end. All season long the only time it felt like this team at full strength was being outplayed was the first quarter of the Jacksonville game. And then they dropped 20 points on them in the second quarter and ended them. The second Washington game had 3-4 mishaps where they shot themselves in the foot and they still lost by one possession (not counting the last second garbage TD).

Minnesota made a living this year winning heart attack one possession games. Same with the Giants. Not this team. They were far and away the better team by far every time they stepped on the field at full strength.

No one has really played anyone. But Il bet you no one met more hot teams right in the midst of their hot streak as much as the eagles had to endure that this season. We were rather unlucky with that.

In 2017 I recall a bunch of teams having key injuries. We were damn good, but luck was on our side that year for many of those games. Including some really lucky plays in the playoffs. But also timing of injuries for other teams as well.

This year we caught teams while they were hot consistently throughout the season.

I’m doing everything I can to go to the Super Bowl. I can’t believe it is in Arizona.

There’s just so many injuries and more games = more injuries heading into the playoffs.

Eh, iirc, the Jags were looking like they came to KC to get a nicely waxed before Mahomes’ injury. Then Chad Henne came in and showed no problems driving on the Jags. I wouldn’t use the Jags game as a reason to be confident, especially since Mahomes will likely be significantly healthier in 2 weeks.
