I certainly wouldnt play coverage.  Seems counterintuitive but I bet theyd rather have Hurts beat them with spectacular plays than our OL just repeatedly mauling a soft front.

Yeah, they 100% have to bring a stout box or we will run wild.

If they load it and we still run against it successfully, then they have a long hard day coming. If they load it and Hurts is throwing well, likewise they have a hard task in front of them.  He doesn't need to be spectacular, just a tick above serviceable.

Seems very doable to me.

He's coming back 2023

That checks out.

Makes sense that oline was injured a ton all year and they couldn’t run the ball. Plus he wasn’t the same either. I tend to think he may have played another year if he didn’t get beat up this year

Every down is a passing down with Reid.  I think you will see zone match coverage to counteract some of the ways Reid attacks zone coverages.  I don't think they need to avoid just straight zone coverages but I do think zone gives them an advantage because it prevents mismatches.  Kelce is a mismatch for Maddox and White.  I don't think Bracketing really does much to take away the parts of the field he makes catches. The key is to take away the initial read and then get to Mahomes.  Gannon has used one ILB looks with 5 dbs and 5 man fronts.  I think that may be a good approach.

I don't think you can count on just doubling Jones.  Spagnolu is a JJ disciple and will blitz to take away double teams to make protection difficult.  I agree the team needs to run the ball at them.  They will have success running the ball.  They need to get them on their heels with runs and RPO's.  Then they can hopeully have some big plays against them.

Oh for sure, I just meant 3rd and long, traditional passing downs where they need extra time to complete passes down field.

I know no coverage will be eliminated from the gameplan, that’s not my idea. I just know we run a lot of cover 4, and in this particular matchup, I’m not sure it should be relied on the most. There’s going to be plenty of zone with Match, but what can occur is misdirection and double moves. After you vacate that area, there’s nothing there. I expect KC to use a lot of traditional schemes (levels, smash, sail, drive)  with a backwards route or double move to turn a regular passing concept, into big chunks. That’s why I prefer a cover 1 man or cover 3 zone, because everyone will be accounted for, and you can have multiple defenders in a section of the field where if (besides deep 3rds) there’s a blown coverage, you should have 1 person relatively close and others to rally to the ball. Also, these schemes will put more pressure on receivers to get open in tighter windows for short/quick passes.  Our DBs are actually better in man than in zone coverage, and the Chiefs receivers shouldn’t pose too big of a threat.

I don’t mind 5 DL and 5 DBs, but with how effective our pass rush can be with 4, I’d rather have the extra defender in space with Kelce or chasing receivers, than somewhere around the LOS. You just HAVE to get to the QB if you’re putting 5 down, and playing coverages with 6. Especially with how quickly the ball can come out on lateral (side to side not backwards football lateral) passes and WR screens. I think most importantly these DBs need to be aggressive at the point of catch, and be willing to take a couple of chances in coverage.

Spags blitzes will for sure be a handful. Getting that sorted out is a whole different animal. Going to need some great communication, and I think Hurts again, needs to be ready to know where his hot is at all times. Also, I expect more screens of ours to be peppered in, specifically on the edges to Smitty/AJ if they’re overloading at the LoS. But also, our WRs should be able to dominate the corners they’re facing, just need to recognize it, and get the ball somewhere they can make a play on it. Again the 49ers Hurts was trying to make the safe, smart pass (I know wind sucked) but these WRs will bail you out 9/10 times. Either an incompletion, PI, or catch. Another reason I’m hoping we can find some traction with back shoulder passes. Smitty and AJ can really take a DB for a ride if they’re forced to play under and stop on a dime to contest an 8-10 yard.

Hardman being out is good. Hopefully, at least one other can't come back by Sunday. I'm sure Sneed will clear protocol by then.

Give CEH all the snaps

I’m a complete idiot when it comes to defensive schematics so I’ll take your word for it. I do know that the biggest mismatch in this contest is Reid v Gannon. I’d almost just assume that Reid is going to take advantage of him like he did last year but I might be a taddd pessimistic lol.

I'm an idiot too but why should that stop me.

Reddick is probably salivating BEFORE the game on this one.

9

And to really harp on that point, Haason Reddick is going to be lining up against RT Andrew Wylie for the most part. Wylie has given up the 3rd most sacks in the NFL this season with 9 sacks allowed. Reddick meanwhile has racked up the most sacks in the league (including playoffs) with 19.5. Either Reddick will be beating Wylie all game long, or the Chiefs will have to give him help. Either way, the Eagles win. Because if they have to give Wylie help, that either means they have one less guy running routes, or another one of the Eagles’ prolific pass rushers is going to now have an easier matchup.

The pass-rushing production from Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave would probably surprise a lot of people. According to Next Gen Stats, Hargrave rushed the passer 432 times from a defensive tackle alignment, compared to 524 for Jones. Here’s how the two players compared on those interior pass rush snaps.

Javon Hargrave vs. Chris Jones

Player Sacks Pressures Pressure Percentage
Javon Hargrave 12 57 13 percent
Chris Jones 11 51 10 percent

The Eagles defensive line is deeper and more talented than the Chiefs defensive line, so Jones draws more attention than Hargrave, but Hargrave had a career season and has developed into an excellent pass rusher. His ability to win against left guard Joe Thuney will be critical for the Eagles when Mahomes tries to climb the pocket.

That sucks for Mecole.

They said last week he likely wouldn't play.

Yea nice try. He retired years ago before even going to Arizona.

No Brady in the booth until the 2024 season.

3 of the 5 are pretty good looking.  Not bad Jalen, not bad 👍

It seems like KC's defense is getting overrated because of the Bengals game where they didn't have an OL. Chris Jones will probably make a play or two but I'm assuming he'll be as invisible as Bosa was last week.

Jones going at 11 in this draft. He's creeping up more and more... No way we go RB at 10, to say there's few needs is just ridiculous with the amount of 1 year players expiring and age/contract situations.

Even if RB was a desperate need, this class is too deep to take one in the first round.

I wonder what the odds are for Brady getting arrested next year.
