Some general thoughts...

  • The two best teams in the league played last night.
  • Bradberry committed that penalty.  Should it have been called there?  I don't know, but someone complains there either way.  Its the team's job to put themselves in position to not let one fluke play decide the game.
  • That Hurts fumble was really horrible and ill-timed, but it didn't decide the game by itself.  Bad defense overall played a bigger part....how about just getting one stop in the 2nd half?
  • That bad punt which ended up in a long return sucked the life out of the game.
  • How can the Chiefs press man our premier WRs routinely and we gave theirs a 10 yard cushion?  Can Darius Slay man up a WR?  I'm not sure.
  • There is no excuse for a bad field.  None.  This is a premier sporting event in the world and it was garbage.  It definitely played a part, but effected both teams.
  • Miles Sanders isn't getting a big payday and rightfully so.  Our running game disappeared on the biggest stage.
  • Those blaming Hurts need to reevaluate this situation.  We aren't even in that game for a minute without him.  We aren't even there to find out.  That kid has earned a new contract with that development and his season performance.
  • This whole defense was solely reliant on sacks and pressure.  We now see what happens when they don't get home with Gannon's 10 yard cushion zone.  For all the coin that Reddick, Sweat, and others get, this is a major disappointment.  It had to come from the edge in this game versus KC's suspect tackles.
  • I said last week that Pacheco and McKinnon would be a tough matchup and it was.  Pacheco had some really power runs at key times.  Andy Reid stuck with it, too...who'd have thought that?
  • TJ Edwards ending up on Travis Kelce will cause me nightmares for years.
  • It was almost a masterful offensive game plan.  Controlling the clock and keeping the Chiefs off the field was perfect.
  • 35 points should have been enough to win, but the defense didn't get that ONE key stop.  It's so damn frustrating.

I think most of us realize that this team is going to look vastly different next season, which is why this loss is so painful.

Speaking of Sanders, I was pulling for him last night. I often felt like the hate he received was unjust, especially this year. However, last night was a brutal outing for him all around (7 carries for 16 yards? Oof). If they chose to let him walk, I wouldn’t be too upset. Gainwell showed flashes late in the season, but I don’t feel comfortable with him starting and Scott behind him.

I hope fans understand this team was a once-in-a-lifetime team. While I do see us having success in the future, I don’t think this year will be replicated for a while. Offensively, I think we’ll be okay. I do worry about the defense, though. Here’s hoping for an efficient off-season.

Once in a lifetime was the 2017 team, Doug going for it in Eagles territory down 1 instead of punting is once in a lifetime.  TBF,  playing against scrubs like Jones and Johnson in the same playoffs plus KC missing Hill was icing on the cake.

The seasons over and the Eagles get KC next season, possibly game 1 on Monday night, start there, it'll be them in KC, or Buffalo at home.

Howie has to draft starters this off-season in the first 3 rounds, not Centers that ride the bench for a couple years, or projects that may or may not pan out.

The thing is he was the run game otherwise it was useless. He played good enough to win the DL did not

Cant agree when his fumble td was the single biggest play of the game.

i agree the D needed to play much batter wrt pressure

Yeah i don’t know what to think about jobe or mcphearson. Neither got much time and big question marks in terms of depth and potential starters. I do like jobe. Just not sure he’s capable of being a high end starter.

i tend to think they trade back from 10 to around 15-17 range. Probably get some extra picks. In that range I’m not against a corner. Not sure you are gonna get the pass rusher you covet at 10 and less likely at 15-17 range. if we get some extra picks in that deal would love if we could find starters at Cb, pass rush, Ot/G (play guard til lane retires) and a Lb.

hurts earned his money but sadly it also means we actually have to be crushing the draft with less money to spend.

Josh Jobe is already going to be 25 going in to year 2.  He's one old rookie.  If he has potential, he needs to show it quick.  McPhearson hasn't shown a think yet.  I posted that list earlier and I think they Eagles need one of these two guys to step it up.

The Eagles are bare in the middle of the draft where depth peices should be added and money is going to be tight so unless Howie trades down and adds some mid-round picks, the "young veterans" on this team might be counted on more than we anticipate.

Silly, really silly take here.  If Hurts runs for a TD on every play and the D turns the ball over on every play we win as well.

No.  To say that it was more than enough is a silly take.    Add some words to it... It should have been more than enough... and then you might have something.  They didn't win, so they didn't do 'more than enough' to make the victory real.

The Eagles' O couldn't keep pace with the Chiefs' O.  We can blame the defense, and rightly so.  We can blame the ST, and rightly so.  But that doesn't absolve the offense 100%.  It is a team game.  Teams win, teams lose.  This team lost.  So, every phase gets some blame.  The offense had a 10 point lead and just needed to match whatever the Chiefs offense did in the second half... and they didn't.  You'll also note that I didn't mention Hurts by name... I've been very consistent with saying the 'offense', and not singling out any individuals.

The Eagles had a 10 point lead at halftime, and the Chiefs got the ball first to start the half.  The Offense needed to 'hold serve', meaning, they had to match whatever the Chiefs did offensively, and the Eagles would have never relinquished the lead.  They did not, therefore, they share some of the blame.  Sorry if that's too all inclusive of the entire team.  But, the team lost, not the defense and ST alone.  The entire TEAM.  The offense also went far too slowly in the 4th quarter and used too much clock, including a wasted timeout that ended up costing them dearly in the end.  I am not going to absolve a single unit from the game from all blame.  That's just not an accurate reflection of how the game works.  All phases work together to win, or to lose.  It's called complementary football.

Which would you consider Dickerson?

a RT of the future that can play RG would be smart

There were definite issues besides the defense, but in the biggest game of the year, they got no turnovers and no sacks. They did nothing on their part to help change the outcome in our favor. The defense was as good as it was because of the collection of talent. There is nothing special Gannon did. He can go.

I don't think the Eagles even made on TFL.

If there is no bad holding call, the Eagles' offense likely gets at least a FG...and keeps pace.

Both offenses yesterday were fantastic. The only difference is that our team couldn't get a single stop in the 2nd half.

I couldn't sleep over that blown call.

I'm reminded of this

Four key moments:

-Hurts fumble

-2nd half 3 and out after Chiefs take the lead

-Toney's PR

-The holding call

As bad as the defense was, Those 4 moments were critical in the outcome of the game.

Both DEs ended up on the ground here. I bet we see all kinds of nonsense like this.

No really, inquiring minds would like to know because maybe the best team didn’t win just the team that looked at that aspect. Who woulda thunk ???

The issue is that they found themselves trailing.  If they keep pace, specifically speaking of the second half, then the Chiefs never find themselves in the lead and the Eagles never trail in the game.  That's what 'keeping pace' means to me.  Once they got out to the 10 point lead at the half... they needed to maintain that cushion.  They didn't and found themselves trailing.  Chiefs get a TD on the opening drive.  Eagles answer with a FG.  (that's where the game turned... ). Next Chiefs possession is a TD, and now the Chiefs are winning... meaning the game can come down to whomever possesses the ball last will win.  And that's exactly how it turned out.  Eagles had the opportunity to cushion themselves against that and failed to do so.  So... while folks want to focus on the last drive, the real focus needs to be on that FG drive rather than a TD to start the second half.  I knew it as it happened that that was a huge moment, and it turns out I was right.  That decision made the game a one possession game where the last team to possess the ball was going to win it... just like Chiefs - Bills in the playoffs last year, and the Eagles' didn't play the 4th quarter with that style of game in mind.  And it's a shame.  The game was there for the taking, and the Eagles were in the right position to do so.

Add to this not winning in the trenches.  I was supremely confident that the Eagles should dominate at OL/DL.  They didn't.

I was one on here who downplayed McKinnon and Pacheco leading up to the game.  Both of those guys bit us in the butt.  All the credit in the world to Pacheco for holidng on to the ball when CGJ absolutely drilled him.  One of the hardest hits of the year, directly on the football and he got injured.  If ever there was a fumble we needed...it was on that play and it didn't happen.

The turf was bad but making the turf even worse is having 60% of the playing surface painted. Do we need three giant logos?

Nah.  At the end of the day, this is just a game, this isn't life and death.  Having recently lost a relative, I can tell you, this is nothing like that.

Add on to that, that while Howie has done well drafting offensive players, he still has not proven to do well drafting defense. He obviously can’t sign free agents to one year deals on a consistent basis every year, especially after Hurts gets paid. He better hope like hell that Davis and Dean turn out to be studs, because both will be cheap labor we need the next two years.

Very concerning that our drafting on defense has been poor. Davis and Dean provided next to nothing as well. I really want Gannon out of here. Doesn't matter who we have on defense with this guy. He clams up against any pretty good QB forget about the top tier QB's. Even Dak guts his defense.

I couldnt sleep either.  I legitimately watched the axe throwing and corn hole championships after the game.  Wont be listening to any sports talk radio or really any sports for a few days.

The Eagles f'ing choked another SB.  damnit.

ofcourse-uhyeah.gif

How else would everyone know that they were watching the Super Bowl?  That this is the NFL, etc.  Gotta plaster these logos everywhere and they have to be 10-20 yards wide.  A blind person needs to be able to see it.

Pitch and catch. Didn’t let the pass rush get going at all. Short passes, RPOs, screens.

I think we need to have the entire playing surface painted.

Steichen is ok but he will be the one gone. This game, the clock was very important, hard to game, somebody guessed right and it wasn’t Gannon

On KC’s opening drive to start the 3rd, they did stop Pacheco for a 2 or 3 yard loss on the first or second play, but that was it for the 2nd half.

Jalen Hurts went toe to toe with Patrick Mahomes. He made some absurd throws. That throw to Goedert on 3rd and 14 was nuts.
