He got hurt, he is not the MVP.

Part of being the MVP is being available, and he was not due to his style of play.

At least Lamar won his MVP and a playoff game before he started getting hurt and missing games.

Hurts has missed games in both seasons he has been the starter.

Currently because he made a horrible read and ran right into a double team tackle…

Yes - He could have played.

Speaking to Gannon's conservatism. Note that Sirianni is not wired this way on offense. Dickerson/Smith/Gainwell all got real playing time as rookies.

2021 snaps from defensive rookies:

  • Milton Williams: 456
  • Tarron Jackson: 253
  • McPhearson: 179
  • Patrick Johnson: 111
  • Tuipulotu: 55

2022 snaps from defensive rookies:

  • Reed Blankenship: 246
  • Jordan Davis: 216
  • Nakobe Dean: 34

There are guys like Josh Jobe with 10 snaps.

Gannon doesn't want to get beat, so he's just not playing the young guys. Blankenship was immediately better than Wallace. Kyzir White has been bad for more than a month. White has 0 INTs, 0.5 sacks, 2 TFL and 98 tackles in 784 snaps. Dean has 1 TFL and 13 tackles in 34 snaps. Dean looked better against the Giants than Kyzir did about a month ago. Jordan Davis is invisible? We spent the first half of the season discussing on/off stats for the run defense with Jordan on the field. We know Fletcher Cox is better in 30 snaps than 50. Cox has publicly said this. There's no reason to use Cox on 1st downs. Just play Davis/Joseph in 4 man fronts instead of 5 man fronts.

The offense with Hurts will figure this out. I have zero confidence in Gannon putting together good gameplans against LaFleur, Moore, Shanahan, etc.

Schwartz was the same way with some small exceptions.

Yep.

Pocket passers still make up the majority of NFL QB's.

The Eagles, Ravens, Cardinals and 49ers all started their back up QB yesterday because the running starting QB was hurt.

Have to wonder with Lane out if we wouldnt be better off putting Cam at RG and sliding Isaac to RT

I think you put Dillard at LT and Mailata at RT.

If he really couldn't go they wouldn't have trotted him out there the last practices to show off his arm.  Do you honestly believe if they "needed" to win the last 2 games, they would have sat him?  Hell no, they would shot him up and he would have played.

Almost every expert that has spoken on his injury has said it is a matter of pain tolerance, not that he couldn't physically go.  They chose to sit him because they didn't "need" the win and thought they were good enough to win with the Stache.  Clearly that isn't the case

Sure. Driscoll had issues but we didn’t help him much either. No option is perfect.

I hate this idea.   Weakening too much of the OL.

They should just help Driscoll more... I don't want to weaken another spot and still have a weakness at RT.

Milton Williams is coming along after a quiet start to the season…

I think Milton Williams could really thrive in the Hargrave role.  He’ll be surrounded by significant beef and won’t have to anchor too much against the run with multiple blockers. He might really rack up the sacks as he gets better jumping the snap with more experience.

I don’t want to pay Hargrave over 30…and Williams might be the excuse they need to not do it.

Of course, that means we need to replace Williams’ role this year.  They still need to draft a stout DT in the mid rounds, but I’d let Hargrave walk.

Yep hence why we should all relax and watch the meltdown of the kind of season that we may only see a couple more times in our lifetimes.

Yep a rare season is potentially going down the drain but I should stop droning on and on.

All you do is keep saying how horrible of a team they are over and over. They have struggled without Hurts and the D had a bad game against Dallas. We all see that. What else are you trying to say? Are you just working the classic negadelphian angle or what?

No, it's called blind conjecture.   He has thrown a pick 6 in the past.  He has made mistakes, he's not perfect.  Would he have made that mistake in that moment?  NO ONE KNOWS.  He wasn't there, so he might have... he might not.  Point is... he wasn't in the game, so what he would have or wouldn't have done is completely irrelevant to the outcome of that game.  And just bemoaning the fact that he wasn't in the game removes the onus from the coaching staff for not recognizing that they had a different QB in the game.  Shame on them for not adjusting to that.   And shame on the writers for not shining the light on the coaches for not adjusting to their available players.   Lazy writing.

He has been the least mistake prone QB in the league. Lowest interceptions total and interception rate.

No idea at all why some of you in the blog continue to die on this hill of trying to belittle how great Jalen is and how much of a positive impact his play has on this team.

He is a FAR superior QB to Minshew.  There is no doubt about that.  There is no doubt with Jalen in there that our offense is much better.  It's no coincidence that we went 13-1 with Jalen Hurts and 0-2 with Minshew.

If you honestly think the results of the past two games wouldn't have been different with Jalen in there then I have no idea what you're watching.

I’m just pissed man. It’s extremely hard to stay positive when you know something has fundamentally changed with a team that looked ready just a few weeks ago. I don’t think Hurts coming back is sufficient.

My solution was to give the team as much rest as possible by trying to win the Dallas game but our coaches thought they were expert gamblers and lost.

I’m right there with you. It’s highly frustrating right now.

Agreed.  You can help him with chips, running screens to his side, and running the ball.

What the heck happened to the TE screen that the Eagles ran so effectively with Minshew last year ??

Agree. I didn’t think Driscoll was awful yesterday. QB play can make an offensive line look worse.

Blankership is a good example that the coaches need to give the young players the chance to play in real game.  He was put in due to injury and under-maned at S position.  He was able to seize the opportunity and play well.

MIlton Williams is playing well and coming along nicely  He is in a position group loaded of established players.  Yet he has earned the trust of the coaches and delivered results with the PT he has.

Davis is a different story.  His snap count is low and he also missed some games due to injury.  Being dominating in college and it is easy to overpower the opponents, which causes the players not developing the skills and mastering the nuance of the game.  He would nned to work on his strength and adjust to the speed and power of NFL games.

Dean has not been used much despite his college success and the reputation as an on-field manager of defense.  Maybe he needs more seasoning before assuming a large role.

Still puzzled of a good number of young players not getting in much action.  They need PT to develop.  If they are un-prepared when injuries force them into action, it would not be good, both for the team and their playing career.

If one is going to shift guys around id rather Mailata go to RT and Dillard to LT.

Having Seumalo at RT he's out of position, don't think he's played at RT since his rookie year and jurgens is a more natural center as he's a bit small for guard not to mention he's a rookie

Either way I don't think Driscoll is the answer, he was abused against the saints.

@LeanMeanGM

Eagles 17

Giants 24

Bonus: Hurts out for game with injury on first drive.

49ers are 5-0 with their 3rd string QB.

Brock Purdy passes - 143

49ers running back carries - 143

I think there is a better chance that they let Bradberry walk than Hargrave (obviously we might get priced out of both), but if Milton can take Fletch’s role that would be good - I’m not expecting 2017 Fletch just a better version than we have now who can eat snaps without being a liability and feed off Reddick/Sweat pressures.

Granted Jordan is a beast but Driscoll was getting pushed back into minshew every snap.

At barely 300 lbs he just doesn't anchor well especially against a big strong DE like Jordan.

They tried it once yesterday and Minshew was unable to get the ball over/around the DLineman.  They should have ran that play several times.

Agreed.  We can literally line anybody up in that spot to be abused in zone coverage.

Agreed.  They give up on something that does not work once.
