Speaking of lazy... your continual push of this narrative is tired.   We don't all have to bow down at the altar of Jalen Hurts that you've built.  He's had a great season.  That's been acknowledged by just about everyone.  So, maybe try to read what is actually being said versus through your biased viewpoint that any post that isn't dripping with effusive praise of Hurts is an attempt to degrade him.

I will break it down for you.  The article is a very lazy narrative.  "Team X would have been better if they had their starting QB."  Duh!  Why not focus on the RT?  "The Eagles have lost more 80% of the games that they've played without Lane Johnson."

Here's the deal... a better article would have actually broken down what the coaching staff should have done differently with their backup QB in place, rather than simply putting it all on the shoulders of the backup QB.  The backup QB is the backup for a reason.  He's not as good.  Once that is established, and it has been... then you move on to identifying the job of the coaching staff and their role.  The job of the coaches is to put the players that are on the field in the best position to win the game.  They are NOT supposed to just throw out the same game plan as if Hurts was playing and then act surprised when a different QB isn't able to execute it the same way.  (Just as they don't just throw Driscoll in and expect him to perform at the same level as Lane Johnson.)   I wonder how Hurts would perform if he were thrown into the Bucs system, tailored specifically to Tom Brady.  Would he fare the same as he does here in a system clearly tailored to his unique traits?   Doubtful.   Similarly, asking Minshew to execute the same game plan as they've used with Hurts is folly and that would have been a much more interesting article to read.   Focusing the beginning of the article on one play once the entire tenor of the game was firmly established as... the coaching staff didn't do anything to help their backup QB perform better... is a lazy article.   The Eagles DID NOT lose the game because of that pick 6.  That pick 6 was just the final nail in the coffin.  It would be more realistic to say that they lost the game more on the failed QB sneak on 4th and 1 at mid-field with the score 13-10 and 10 minutes left on the clock.  That failure put the Saints in great field position and the next possession for the Eagles, deep in their own end, with less time available and having much farther to go, led to more desperation and panic, and forced more reliance on the passing game rather than finally turning the game over to the running backs and OL to run out the clock and either score a TD to win it at the end, or a FG to send it to OT.  Perhaps playing a bit more conservatively and playing the field position game would have been more prudent with the backup QB, than asking him to be a battering ram and push his way to a first down. (Especially since EVERYONE knows its coming and teams are OVERCOMMITTING to stop it.)  Maybe coming up with a short yardage play that is NOT tailored directly to Hurts being able to squat 600 lbs.  Minshew is not that guy.  And its not his fault that he's not.  It's the coaches' fault that they didn't know that.  Maybe sucker them in for that and run it wide... have a TE squirt free for an easy pitch and catch over the over committed DL/LBs. (See below.)

So, do you understand now what was lazy about the article?

And lastly, while Hurts is at the top of the pile for not turning the ball over this season... that does not guarantee that he wouldn't have turned the ball over in that exact same set of circumstances.  Hurts has turned the ball over.  Hurts has thrown a pick 6 this year in a very similar situation (Jacksonville).  So, to declare that he absolutely would not have in that situation is fallacious; no one can know that.  So, it's just not a good way to start an article and have any credibility.

I don't see Cam as a good OG option... I think he's a C only.  Same as Kelce.

You people are so precitable.  Tripping over yourselves doing mwntla gymnastics to try to shield Minshew from any and all criticism and blame.  Same flick of people that spent all offseason writing Jalen off with absolute certainty.  Same people who complained about Jalen throughout this season because he wasn't winning games in the style that you all wanted.  Even people here criticizing Jalen for how he looked on the sideline through these games.

Whether you refuse to acknowledge it or not Jalen is a major part of this teams success this year and it's no surprise that they have looked awful without him. Once he comes back this team will resume being a Super Bowl contender because that's just how efficient and great he is.

I don't know if the results would have been different.  The team had problems in Chicago because they passed the ball to start the game and Hurts had 2 early turnovers.  Hurts is the starting QB for a reason.  I don't know how much better he would have looked in this game given the apparent game plan.  The team looked unprepared.

We've seen this same type of gameplan from the coaches for the past two seasons.  Only it was Jalen who got the blame for it because it was what he was deciding to do with he rpo, not the coaches.  Coaches never saw any of the blame, only Jalen.  There is no dou t whatsoever that Jalen would have been able to win the past two games with the game plans that were called.

I don't think we can know whether Jalen would have won either game.  Everyone's point is that the game plans should have better taken into account Minshew's skillset vs. Hurts.  The coaching staff should not be running run options with Minshew as they would with Hurts.

Hurts was criticized, rightfully so, for not better protecting himself from hits.  Of course, that's part of the reason people have also criticized Steichen and Sirianni.  Hurts wouldn't have missed the last 2 games if he had handed the ball off more against Chicago.

That's not remotely true.  This is as a good a roster as I can remember.  The problem, the last 2 games, has been the gameplanning and that they have had a back up.

I was only able to catch the 2nd half on the radio broadcast, but this game to me was reminiscent of the loss against WASH.  Defense couldn’t get off the field and the TOP was slanted about 80% to the opponent in the first half.  Hard to get into any rhythm.

Mike Quick was of the opinion Minshew was slow to process and his passes had no velocity on them.  He alluded to the Saints DBs baiting Minshew a couple of times, then the Lattimore INT happened.  Not sure if the 5 first half sacks the Saints were more on Minshew or the OL.  The numerous false start penalties are also indicative of trouble with the QBs cadence.

The backup QB is the backup QB for a reason.  Minshew is not and will not ever be the starting QB for a good NFL team.  He was a 6th round pick and has limited physical measureables.  I wasn’t a fan of his style of play in JAX.  He’s a serviceable backup QB, but nothing more.  I thought he played okay vs DAL and played poorly yesterday.

He is so stuck on having to be right, about something, finally, after years of bad takes he is incapable of being objective.

A question, where would rank the following offensive lines, ballpark.

Eagles without Lane, I say still top 10.

Falcons, I say 15-20 ish.

Not sure but I think they need to seriously consider moving Mailata over to RT and starting Dillard at LT until Lane gets back.

Not to mention if Lane gets back and can’t continue for any reason throughout the playoffs, we can see what it looks like with Mailata starting at RT now VS in the middle of a playoff push.

Aw I feel so loved. How about I agree. Now I'm curious how you're going to spin this to argue with me for no reason.

So went back and watched that crap fest over again. Didn’t have the all 22 but from what i dvr’d some things i noticed that all of us likely did

1. that opening drive really set the tone for the rest of the game. There’s been times the Eagles defense has come out on the opening drive and just allows the other team to move the ball with relative ease to get a field goal or a touchdown. Most of the time the offense has been good enough to counter so it doesn’t potentially snowball. Yesterday was not that time. The saints were 3 of 4 on 3rd down and 4 of 5 if you include 4th down. Was the only touchdown drive the saints had all game and felt like the saints were always 2 steps ahead of Gannon and the defense on that drive

2. fortunate that sweat is going to be alright and not hurt even worse. It looked bad on the replay. With how he hit the ball carrier and with his neck that’s a really scary thing to watch. besides his hands i didn’t see him moving anything else but thankfully he’s alright cause that could’ve really ended a lot worse.

3. The eagles offense was bad from start to finish in this game but the fact we were dumb enough to start the game throwing 3 passes down the best RT in football, saints pass defense for like 9 weeks now has been top 5, over that same stretch bottom third in the league vs. run and they got Lattimore their best corner ( arguably a top 10 CB in the nfl when healthy) is just about as moronic as it gets. This is not the first time I’ve complained about a game plan that made little sense based off of on the team you are playing. As great as the playcalling and game plan was last week it was equally as bad this week. You cannot wait until 12:56 of the second quarter to run the ball with Miles Sanders nor only give him 2 rushes in a half against that as of a run defense. If his knee is the reason then he shouldn’t be on the field. I thought minshew did not play well. He was bad, but the philosophy of the game plan and the playcalling compounded it and made it look immensely worse. This was a combined horrific combo of ineptitude by Steichen, Sirianni and minshew

4. Minshew was bad in reading the field, holding onto the ball too long and decision making most of the game. We had 6 sacks but I’d argue going back and watching them at least 3 were directly on him just holding it way too long. He also perpetually kept challenging the wrong corner in Lattimore most of the game. His best play came when he had brown on adebo and they got him turned around. However far too many times minshew tried to challenge Lattimore and he nearly got burned by it until he finally did. He had one pass to Watkins who was covered by Lattimore and thankfully quez actually did what he didn’t do last week otherwise that would’ve been another turnover.

5. Watching sanders jog off the field in the second quarter that knee might be worse than we think. He looked like he was limping a little when getting to the sideline. He looked good in the second half in most of his touches but there was large stretches where he was just not out there and it was Scott. I get the eagles sometimes do their rotation at running back but this felt like they were trying to limit his snaps cause that knee might be bothering him.

6. i know mclane said there was belief the officials screwed up Dickerson for mailata on that BS holding penalty that negated a td. But mailata didn’t commit a penalty either. That’s just a BS bad call by the officials that really felt like it changed the entire momentum of the game. Even with the field goal it felt like a significant loss of momentum.

7. Credit to gainwell the past couple weeks when he’s gotten snaps he’s actually looked good in them especially as a receiver.

8. Driscoll gave up 3 sacks. He wasn’t great but some of that falls on minshew not getting rid of the ball. Some of it falls on the eagles not helping him out more and just expecting him to be like lane. The saints have some nice pass rushers like Jordan so a lot for Driscoll to win those battles routinely one on one. He’s not lane if you ask him too then you are in for a world of disappointment. He needs help and the staff has to adjust to that.

9. Saints are pretty good against the tight end and goedert got 6 targets. i felt last week in Dallas he could’ve done more damage if he got more throws his way. I felt that way again vs. saints. 3 catches for 45 yards. On 3 non catches one ball was completely overthrown and wasn’t even close. I’m actually surprised we haven’t called more TE screen with him since his return with how good he is at them. I’m also guessing to help out driscoll we likely keep him in more to block this upcoming week

10. As frustrating as the first half defense was to watch, the second half they were really good. Heck minshew and the offense screwed them by not picking up the first at midfield and they managed to force a punt and not a fg. The pressure and sacks really began getting to the saints. That said you cannot allow a bad Saints all offense to start 16 for 16 throwing the ball. You cannot simply can’t wait until halftime to make your adjustments. You have to be quicker and more flexible in what you are doing. In the playoffs you’re likely facing better coaches, who are gonna exploit you continuously until you make that adjustment. So you can’t just rely on halftime to finally make your judgment and then come out and do it because that might be too late in a playoff game.

** i don’t know what the Qb rating is vs  the eagles when they play zone over the last 2 games but Dalton, hill and Dak have to be close to completing 90% if not more of their passes.

11. there’s been times over the past couple weeks where our oline just continues to pick up false start penalties. 3 on one drive is absolutely just lack of focus especially when you are at home. Love kelce but this was not one of his better games.

12. that 4th and 1 call was doomed from the start. Saints were offsides on the replay and photos but re-watching it felt the eagles were rushing into the play. Also seemed like Minshew  had a chance to not go directly up the gut where saints were expecting him. If he goes off center behind Dickerson and mailata I actually think he gets the first down. I didn’t mind going for it with 8:35 left in the game but i do think you could ask with 3 timeouts left and  how the defense had been playing in the second half, punting wasn’t an awful idea. Could potentially have pinned saints deep inside their own territory. with the pressure and sacks we were getting gotten just as good of field position or maybe even a turnover. Again i wasn’t against going for it but there’s a devils advocate argument that could be made for punting

13. I wasn’t the biggest fan of siposs but kern is actually worse. Had a shank and i really been uninspired by his punting in general. I can understand why he has been a FA for much of the year.

14. Devonta smith is becoming not just a top 15 receiver in the league but top 10. he’s been absolutely incredible the last 5 games. He makes some unbelievable catches like his 3rd down catch against Lattimore. in his last 5 games has 32 receptions, 520 yards and 3 tds. 4 out of the last 5 games he’s had 100 yards receiving. If anyone knows when was the last time an eagles WR had 3 straight 100 yard receiving games (brown came close to that today as well but came up 3 yards short)?

15. Milton Williams is beginning to emerge. He looked good as he got more reps after sweat left. In his last 7 games he has 3 sacks.

16. saw daboll is saying he is playing his starters. Eagles have everything to play for and getting hurts back should help. However i am concerned with the 2 weeks off for hurts that he might be rusty to start this game. The eagles really need to prove a point to themselves and just beat up on the giants. I think this game is closer than what we saw the first time, i think giants have some of their confidence back as they’ve played well since our last meeting.

bonus: the thing I’m really concerned with right now is the eagles not playing their best football of the year along with the coaching being up and down week to week (i didn’t love the game plan vs. the bears either. So 2 of the last 3 weeks on offense and defense against Dallas and first half saints) and they’ve got injuries. I’m hoping the coaching staff can really channel their own Doug Pederson and coaching staff vibes to get them peaking again at the most critical time of the year (besides 2020). Hats off to Doug he has Lawrence and that jags team rolling right now

People can talk about Hurts being the MVP but I think Lane is up there as far as his importance. Since 2016 they’re 59-29-1 with him and now 9-22 without him. It’s a different offense without him and given his injury issues the past couple years, I’m surprised they haven’t prioritized a backup behind him.

I think they wanted Dillard to be it, but it just hasn’t panned out and the fact they have Driscoll over him should tell us how they feel about Dillard at RT. They can do Dillard at LT and Mailata at RT but then that’s two question marks instead of one because you don’t know how Mailata will play out there.

I think he will. He's basically a pup out there. New scheme, suffered a tough ankle injury. I think next year will be much better and by year 3 he will be showing why he was picked so early.

Why didn’t the Eagles do what the Falcons did against the Saints, in New Orleans, and run the ball down their throat ??  It was Ridders first start, and he was not a threat to run or pass.

It is just easier to blame Minshew to keep your Hurts narrative going, instead of assigning some blame to the coaches.
