Could be ruptured aorta from the hit.

I feel like if that was the case they never would have gotten a Rhythm back. You don't come back from that.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

Trying for some good vibes here.

Earlier this year, I was at the 13 year old grandson's game and one of his teammates was about 5 feet in front of me on the sidelines (CA sun, no stands and there was a tent and I was bogarting some shade) and had a massive heart attack.  The team mom (or someone's mom) dropped down and started blistering CPR.  "Cash" the name of the kid, came to and threw up and I exhaled (I was fn tripping balls.)

Then he crashes again.  More off duty professionals dive in (most ultra staffed kid's team in the world I guess) and they bring him back AGAIN.  (I am not ashamed to say I was beyond tripping balls at this point; not making a nuisance of myself but internally freaking to my core; like I am permanently scarred from it and no I am not exaggerating how profound the impact).

Then the Pros show up (ice cold and I dig why they have to be so calm cool and collected) and they revive him AGAIN.  Off he goes to the hospital.

HE GETS A FULL RECOVERY from some blocked whatever the hell.  Required an operation and a vein harvest yada yada. HE IS OK (but won't play again).

Sounds like he is an extremely high end person too.

So special you are. What the Hell does that even mean? Has your Voice changed yet??

Bend it around to protect yourself.

Hint...It's only about Hamlin...

Take it to Rant and Rave. make a thread about how much you hate me. Let it go here.

Anyone in the media who tries to talk football ramifications of this is knowingly walking into a minefield.  I get it…you want to talk about how this is going to get figured out.  I just know that I sure as hell wouldn’t allow myself to be the first one to do it if I were in that line of work right now.

But yeah, I get the temptation to talk logistics and figure out how a really good game is going to be played.

It's too soon to speculate on how this will affect the rest of the schedule.   Let's get an update on Hamlin... hopefully that he's stable and going to be ok... then we can discuss how to finish this game and the season.   But that's for another time... certainly not now.

What's comotio cordis?

A strong impact to the chest/heart that causes disrhhtyhmia (spelling) or arrest or even failure without a preexisting heart condition/family inherited heart condition.

Much respect to the medical crew in the stadium, I'm not a doctor but I can imagine those first few minutes were critical and determinative.

Game officially suspended.

Officially suspended

Game suspended by the league officially.

Game officially suspended for the night. Right call.

Why do people think they were considering playing this game the last 30 minutes? They weren't. People are creating a controversy that doesn't exist.

The only sensible decision.

That it took so long tells you all you need to know about Roger Goodell and the NFL.

Someone said he got a helmet to the chest. Could be commotio cordis.

Could be ruptured aorta from the hit. That happened to the CB the raiders drafted some years ago.

Or could have been some undiagnosed arrhythmia.

Didn't look like that to me.

Conflicting reports out there.  One media outlet says he was on oxygen, which implies breathing on his own with a mask.  Another says not breathing on his own but with a pulse, which implies he was intubated on the field.

If he was unconscious, if you have the staff present to do it, you put in a supplemental airway on the field and start oxygen. Who knows if they had to bag valve it, of if he was breathing on his own. But either way, unconsciousness is enough reason to start the airway and the NFL has enough people to do it without needing to stop CPR.

If you dont have a lot of people, you still work on doing that but youre not supposed to stop CPR for more than 10 seconds at any time. In those pauses you need to work on airway, oxygen, and an aspirator to clear the vomit.

They were initially told 5 minutes and looks like  coaches players stepped in so I wouldn't put it past them

Those first 4 minutes were weird... not sure what they were thinking there. Totally agree.

Seems almost impossible for an aortic rupture from a hit like that.  That usually comes from massive trauma.

Don't laugh as I am not trying to be funny, but I recall FROM NOVELS (I think they are the Reacher series), the idea that you could stop someone's heart from a hit between (before? after?) a beat.  Like Reacher hits a guy in the chest and it happens he is beyond surprised so it isnt like he can just do it on command or whatever).

Is that a real thing?
