A strong impact to the chest/heart that causes disrhhtyhmia (spelling) or arrest or even failure without a preexisting heart condition/family inherited heart condition.

If I had a guess just as a casual observer and not being a MD,seeing the play and the hit I would assume this the most likely cause

Hope the dude pulls through🙏

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

Why do people think they were considering playing this game the last 30 minutes? They weren't. People are creating a controversy that doesn't exist.

Mostly due to the zero leadership of Roger Goodell.

The NFL should have publicly stated the game was suspended 25 minutes ago at the latest.

We all knew what the right thing to do was but he was the only one who could do it.

I really am still optimistic and hopeful he’s going to be OK.

I don’t like the lack of information, because I’m sure there is an enormous push to provide some good news.  However, much of this is in the HIPAA vault now.

And rightly so.   We are all interested parties... but we are not privy to this sensitive information.  As it should be.

NFL postponing this is absolutely the right thing to do.  It took a while, likely because there are some legal things to figure out... but I am glad that they are doing the right thing.

The only sensible decision.

That it took so long tells you all you need to know about Roger Goodell and the NFL.

The NFL originally gave them 5mins to get ready….The NFL should be ashamed

Take it to Rant and Rave. make a thread about how much you hate me. Let it go here.

Haha...your antics... bye.

They were initially told 5 minutes and looks like  coaches players stepped in so I wouldn't put it past them

Everyone was stunned.  The fact that they didn’t instantly cancel it is forgivable.  The 5 minute thing is the protocol and everyone was on autopilot for a bit there.

It takes time. There's a lot of phone calls that were probably made, etc etc. Takes a minute. They canceled it pretty quickly all things considered.

I wonder if he had some sort of condition similar to what Dorenbos had

Just turned on the game.  What happened?

Still about you. You are pathetic.

I suppose it could have been a cardiac arythmia induced from a chest trauma.  But that’s rare too…

commotio cordis more common in kids like 14-18 years old but still possible. blow to the chest fits that scenario.

Bills safety Damar Hamlin was making a tackle, got up after the play then just fell backwards. He was administered CPR for a matter of minutes and then taken to a nearby hospital.

This is actually a really tough job for the broadcast crew.  They are picking up more and more viewers as word of this gets out…and they have to keep summarizing the morbid story while providing some sensitive and hopeful commentary.

Those first 4 minutes were weird... not sure what they were thinking there. Totally agree.

Not sure they were thinking... just reacting.

Yeah I think ESPN has done a fine job covering it to be honest

Can't imagine how is mom is handling it. They said she was in the stands right? Seeing your boy collapse like that and then receive CPR on the field had to have been terrifying

Don't post unconfirmed updates, please.

Exactly.   And then reason kicked in.

It's too soon to speculate on how this will affect the rest of the schedule.   Let's get an update on Hamlin... hopefully that he's stable and going to be ok... then we can discuss how to finish this game and the season.   But that's for another time... certainly not now.

Yeah but a decision of some kind has to be made sooner rather than later. The teams involved can’t be going to bed tonight not knowing whether they are resuming tomorrow, or forfeiting, or having a no-result. Some may find it distasteful to discuss it, but it needs to be done.

Awful…so tragic

It's also made up. There's no reports confirming that at all.

It's a really tough job to react in the moment, get in the right frame of mind and know the right things to say.

Its all about football every day of their life and then immediately its not.

Harlan and Warner did a good job too.  They eventually went to Rich Eisen who had 20 minutes to get ready for it and he did a fine job as well.

Thank God… What sort of loser would tweet that?
