Ironically, a few weeks ago, someone posted that if a grown man says he's good to go, that should be enough to get them on the field.

I think these stories from Clark, White, etc. illustrate that the players want to play... that's the way they are wired.  But sometimes, others have to step in and protect them from themselves.

We watched Russell Wilson play for a few hours while concussed in the 2014 NFCCG. (Matthews obliterated him on a block on an interception)

The league has come a long way sine then.

Even Mike McDaniel stepped up in film study with Tua last week.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

F You Roger Goodell

If true, reason to put Goodell out to pasture.

I hope that the NFL would have made the call as well, but were beaten to the punch by the teams.   I hope that's the case.

I'd be happy to continue this at a later time.

I was at work when posting about that. Forgot there even was a football game tonight.  No idea this was going on.

Driving home my dad told me some player was down for 20 minutes.

I got home and played catch up in here.

This ripple effect through the league will be huge.  How many players from Pitt are there in the league?  Played with him in HS, Pop Warner, All-Star games, made friends from competing against each other for years in college?

The ripple effect from this will go far beyond his direct connections.

The football community forgot about the Shazier trauma pretty quickly, and the same may happen here.  But this may also be an inflection point for the sport with how horrifyingly it unfolded.  I could see parents and kids dropping out of the sport because of this on a large scale.

Yeah I think that’s it.

No, the Bills are the current top seed. If the Bills win twice, they get the bye. KC needs Buffalo to lose once...and then beat the Raiders. I guess the Bengals can get the bye if they win twice and the Chiefs lose next week. So this game tonight is/was HUGE.

For what it is worth... the Bills-Bengals game has been removed from the ESPN Playoff Machine website.

Of course, this game was huge.  The events of tonight are huger.

Ahh I was thinking Chiefs beat the Bills when they played earlier this season but it was the other way around.

Not the worst thing for the Bills to get the bye by default here.  They are going to need some emotional time away here.

Lots of parents don't let kids play anything but flag until High School now. (mostly over concussions)

I've been wanting Goodell fired for years

Yup.

I suppose when more information comes out about what precipitated this for him... whether it was some sort of blunt trauma or some unknown underlying health concern will go a long way to determining some of that.

No worries.  I figured that you weren't up to speed when you were posting that.

Bills are flying home.

That would be the on-site ranking NFL officer there in the moment — not Goodell

Maybe Goodell wasn’t going to cancel and then was forced to because coaches and players refused.  We’ll find out.

But if all that happened was they didn’t make a decision yet and the built in protocol when into effect at 5 minutes…no one needs to be burnt at the stake over that.  They were all shell shocked and it’s fine.

The people have the power. They took it into their own hands.

I bet the players all want to go home and hug their wives... hug their kids...

Yeah they shouldn't play tomorrow either.

If Goodell wants a contest,  settle this one over a game of madden played between head coaches or team captains.

Or just call it a tie.

Sounds like the game will be cancelled in that case

Whatever this was…it’s one in a million…less, actually….and is likely something that doesn’t even reliably represent to the dangers of the sport.  But it will force the conversation about other things.

No doubt.

Someone quoted the league rules from a Twitter post. Its 100% Goodell.

Even if he was on the moon it would only take 2.5 seconds to message him.

I think even the commentators said this was going to be Goodells decision

What's the NFL rule for stuff like this? Can the NFL cancel a game without both teams consenting?

The sad part about that Skip Bayless tweet is that he knows what he’s doing. He wanted people to engage in it and cause a stir. It’s what his brand is. It’s how he makes his money. If people really wanted to hit him where it hurts they’d stop watching his show and interacting with his material. He’s the ultimate troll.
