I don't think this game will/should ever be played unless they meet down the line in the playoffs. They cancelled it correctly because of the trauma surrounding it. Telling them to get back together in a week wouldn't make much sense to me.

Call it a no contest and go with win % as you suggested and play the rest of the games according to plan including the Bills at the Patriots and Bengals/Ravens assuming he remains stable. Heaven forbid something happens to him then all bets are all and shutting all the games down should be on the table.

Giving the win to the Bengals because they were up with 5 min left in the first quarter doesn't make much sense to me either.

That's where I am at as well. God forbid the worse happens today or tomorrow, I think going forward with this week's slate as usual becomes tough. I know the NFL suspended play for a week in 2001, so there is precedent, albeit for a different tragedy, but I think they would have to consider that here as well.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

I’m no doctor, but this screams of a previously undiagnosed heart condition…

But did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

I wouldn’t call it innocuous

Yeah... upon watching it again and looking specifically for that, there is contact to the chest.  But, how many times have we seen this exact scenario play out?

Might explain why Tee Higgins seemed to be a little shaken up himself about all this.

No…can’t even claim that.

Just such a weird and terrible situation.  There have been hits to the chest like that in every game, every week, for a 100 years.

Troy Vincent came out with a statement saying he never heard the NFL instructing the Bills and Bengals had 5 minutes for warm ups to resume play last night. Vincent said he was in constant communication with Goodell last night and that was never raised. Said decisions were made collectively between the league, NFLPA, and the teams, and all focus was on Hamlin’s well being and not the game.

Ok.  So injury report for the Eagles tomorrow will be telling.  I suspect there will be a lot of guys listed as "rest”.  I also suspect that Hurts will be a FP.

Couldn’t care less

Yeah I don’t get the heat some are giving Goodell.  I’m sure the 5 minute thing is probably a normal protocol for serious injuries.  I doubt they even have a protocol in place for something like this.  I realize a lot of people hate Goodell and will jump on him for this…but they don’t really know what what he was feeling.  I don’t picture him being upset at the fact that they didn’t want to resume play.  Who would in that situation?

I thought the rush to judgement on here and social media was pretty astounding last night, but not surprising. As usual, waiting for the facts to come out is typically the best policy before pointing fingers.

Everyone has to be the first to get their hot take in instead of letting the facts come out first. It's ridiculous.

If it was up to me I would give teams a "bye" this week and have the Bills/Bengals play on Sunday. I feel as though that's reasonable.

Obviously him being all right is the most important thing.

Seems like the 19th week is the best option. I really don't see this game being played today or tomorrow and then have both teams turn around to play another game on Sunday.

This, so much this, in everything.  But the baised news media is even more guilty of this at times with regards to pushing narratives to advance some agenda. Or just to be "first".  So many examples of where they rush to judgement - before all the facts are known. I always try to wait for the facts.

Well the thing is, with Commotio Cordis it’s 1) pretty rare

2) the trauma is normally more significant. Like a significant mva without an air bag and seat belt but you bend the steering wheel significantly with your chest. Although many hits in the nfl can be compared to an mva.

actually now that I think about it, there are cases of it happening in baseball because of a ball hitting someone in the chest.

hmmm…..

The more I pondered it the more i though aortic aneurysm or rupture.

he didnt clutch his cheat just went down like someone whose blood pressure tanked

Don't laugh as I am not trying to be funny, but I recall FROM NOVELS (I think they are the Reacher series), the idea that you could stop someone's heart from a hit between (before? after?) a beat.  Like Reacher hits a guy in the chest and it happens he is beyond surprised so it isnt like he can just do it on command or whatever).

Is that a real thing?

It is but its incredibly rare. The heart waves move in millisecond increments

Just call it a tie. This would remove the bye between the NFFCG and the SB. Losing one game is not that big of a deal.

Exactly.

What would the implications to either team be if it were a tie?

If the bills were to lose the #1 seed wouldn't they want to play it out?

I think Week 19 is the simplest and probably the best solution.    Just eliminate the extra week between the Championship Games and the Super Bowl.  We lose out on the Pro Bowl... but in a way, doesn't that really mean we all win?

How would a Week 19 work?   Every team gets a bye that is heading into the playoffs, except for the Bills/Bengals?

The Bills are not guaranteed to beat the Bengals.

Also, if the Chiefs win on Saturday and say the Bills lose to the Patriots, then the Bills might even rest their starters in a hypothetical week 19.

Would f over their wk18 opponents

I was thinking about that too.  But, I don't think that the league can do that across the board because of other scheduling factors...  and I would feel for the fans that have travel plans set for this weekend's games.  I think that game remains in limbo until after Week 18 finishes.   The big question for that Bills/Bengals game is do you resume from the point they were in at the time, or do they just start all over?

And... wouldn't it be great if somehow, someway Hamlin was able to be there with his team... even if its just up in a luxury box?   Would be even better if he were somehow able to be a captain for the coin toss.   And if so, I think everyone everywhere would feel so much better about this whole thing.    Not knowing his status is the most frustrating part of all this and I can't imagine what family, friends, and teammates are going through right now.

I do continue to pray for a quick recovery and that there's no permanent brain damage.  Hopefully being so close to so much medical people helped him not lose oxygen to his brain for very long.  I have no idea what the exact time frame we are talking about with that, but I know it isn't long.

Said it earlier, but have them play Sunday and give every other team a "bye" this week.

Gives them time to process what's happening, they effectively get their extra "bye", by not playing last night. Teams will get healthier going into the biggest part of the season.

Makes the most sense to me, honestly.

Losing that bye isn't a big deal either.
