Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

They are not postponing all of this weeks games.

agreed. Far easier to re arrange one game than to re arrange 16

Said it earlier, but have them play Sunday and give every other team a "bye" this week.

Gives them time to process what's happening, they effectively get their extra "bye", by not playing last night. Teams will get healthier going into the biggest part of the season.

Makes the most sense to me, honestly.

From a competitive standpoint, yes.
From a logistical standpoint, it's way harder.

Nor are they just gonna cancel the game. They'll play the game somehow. I can't see the NFL just tossing it aside.

I don’t think they would postpone this week’s games. They would have Buffalo and Cincy play a week 19 game and essentially give all the other playoff teams a bye week.

No one actually thinks they will.

I'm just saying what I would do, personally.

Also, they don't even get to restart the Bengals/Bills game. They would be starting with the Bengals up 4.

The Bills are not guaranteed to beat the Bengals.

Also, if the Chiefs win on Saturday and say the Bills lose to the Patriots, then the Bills might even rest their starters in a hypothetical week 19.

I’m guessing bills wouldn’t as they and the bengals would still have a chance at the 2 seed. which would be important as in the divisional round you don’t want to have to go on the road for this matchup again

Why wouldn't the game start with same score at the time play stopped?

Seems like a logical solution in a situation with no perfect answer.

That was the score when the game was suspended.   7-3 Bengals in the lead, and with the ball.

They could play this game on Wednesday of this week, and MOVE thier games for next weeks to Monday night.  Not much different than playing on a Sunday and having a Thursday night game the next week.

And thats just moving 3 games.

Oh I misread. I thought RLC was implying that was up for debate.

Something tells me that the Bills aren't interested in getting back on a plane today to get ready to play this game tomorrow.   I think that's out of the realm of realistic.

There is no way the NFL will ask the Bills to play a game in the next 2 days, especially with Hamlin's status still very much in the air.

Yes. Some people want a new game (I strongly disagree with this).

So you're moving the entire league for 3/4 of a game.

I know we don't have any answers outside of Hamlin suffered Cardiac Arrest on the field, but my biggest question is how such a routine tackle could cause that?  I've seen guys pound on their own chest celebrating harder than he got hit from Higgins.

Trying to understand what some of our medical folks on here have said and others.  Some on twitter (too many opinions) are comparing this to Chris Pronger taking a 100 mph frozen rubber puck slap shot to the chest and I can't even comprehend that comparison.  Football padding is far superior to hockey.  Even the way Hamlin tackled Higgins, he appeared to be falling in the same direction as him.  Just seemed so routine and having a hard time comparing that hit to a fast ball or slap shot to the chest.  I'm far from a Dr, just trying to understand as the situation unfolds.  Is this a Jon Dorenbos situation where something has gone undetected?  Just waiting and praying for a positive update on Hamlin.

Just call it a tie. This would remove the bye between the NFFCG and the SB. Losing one game is not that big of a deal.

Not fair to either team.  The game will be rescheduled

It is but its incredibly rare. The heart waves move in millisecond increments

rare is a relative term. Its "Rare" but it does happen, every year.

Quote

Commotio cordis plays a distressing role as a leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes. Reported cases remain relatively infrequent (less than 30 cases are reported each year), although it is increasingly recognized. The US Commotio Cordis Registry (Minneapolis, MN) has been established to facilitate the aggregation of information.

Cases of SCA from HCM, or heat stroke are "rare" too. But they happen every year as well.

In the absence of any information at all, youd not think any of these things. But given the facts of the event last night, its one of the more likely possibilities on the differential diagnosis.

There is nothing reasonable about giving the whole league a bye this coming week because of the unfortunate incident that happened last night to one player.  I said immediately they should have cancelled that game, so spare me if anyone wants to say I am being insensitive.  But you can't disrupt an entire leagues activities because of one player.

People need to learn to compartmentalize.  We all agree that the most important thing is, him being alright.  OK...So since we all agree with that, can we all agree that playing games this week has no bearing on him being "alright" or not?  No one in asking him to go out there on punt coverage.  If the Bills don't want to play then the league needs to figure out what to do about that particular game.  But to shut down the whole league?  Come on.

And for some of the people who were bashing the NFL for considering to play the game or a warm up period or whatever.  STFU.  The NFL played that thing perfectly.  Communicate with the teams, NFLPA, players and then cancel the game.  Just some people love to look for something to be upset about.

Little different when said player was temporarily dead on the field and is far from out of the water.

The league already expanded the season. You don't think they would do it? They still get a game Sunday. They push the season a week longer. You give the playoff teams time to heal up some more going into the biggest draw in sports. You think the Eagles would be mad if they got a chance to rest Hurts, Lane, Sweat, etc more? I don't.

Nor do I think this will actually happen.

Its the solution with the least amount of shuffling- and yet still play the game.  If they wish to call the game - they dont have to move anything.

To call the game would mean the call is either it ends in a tie, or the Bengals win since they were leading.

Anything other option will take a major undertaking of moving games, schedules, not that it COULDN'T be done....  But looking for the path of least resistance

SO much more logistics at work than just rewriting the schedule. Hotels, PLanes, TV Crews, Programming - it's way more involved.
