I believe if Bengals lose to ravens this week, ravens win division and 3 seed. Cincy would drop to 5 (or maybe 6). Good thing Cincy can prevent that by beating Baltimore

They do not.  Bengals will be 11-5.  Ravens 11-6.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

If they rule the Bills Bengals game a no contest, Bengals would win the division in that scenario.

Bengals 11-5, .6875

Ravens 11-6, .6470

The schooling stuff is what's really scary.  I've read a lot about schools wanting to do away with GPA because it's not equitable.  They want to banish English and grammar courses because English and grammar is rooted in "white supremacy" and damages kids of color and doing away with honors courses.  There's so much going on with it that's wrong.

Yep. Equity always precedes lowering standards, which accomplishes producing less smart, less productive, and lower quality students into the pipeline. People are not equal in terms of skill, talent, or work ethic, so you can never have equal outcomes. Competition is what drives innovation and success. DEI initiatives hate competition. They don't consider it "fair" because one person out-achieves another. The only way to achieve equity is to hold everyone down, but they're grifters, so they promote as "boosting everyone up."

Over time, you're going to have under qualified people in important positions in the workforce who got scholarships because in school they got an A for just showing up.

I feel one game not being played shouldn't completely reformat the playoffs. Find a way to get it played or just call it a no-contest.

You are correct...

however, the NFL likely wants to get to 8 playoff teams, and this is an opportunity to make that happen and claim that they have no other choice... then you go ahead and force this to be the standard moving forward, because a precedent has been set.  Just as 7 became the standard now after they had to increase the number to 7 because of Covid.   This is how they operate.

And that's 'ok' given the set of circumstances right now.

Good news that he remembers who he is and what he was doing. Good signs cognitively I'd assume.

Something tells me he plays football again.  I know I've voiced my opinion on social media responses to tragedy and that viewpoint isn't changing, but it also does help uncover the good that people do.  He seems to have something special about him.  He comes off as the easiest guy to cheer for and the kind of guy you want on your team.  How many people would have known the kind of man Damar Hamlin was if it hadn't been for his injury?  If not for his injury, his charity would still have $2,500 rather than $5 million. Something tells me that once he's awake and sees the outpouring of overall goodness from people, he will use that to fuel his recovery and not only play football but also expand his charity to do even more good.

It would be a liability nightmare to clear him…but yeah….there really is a chance he could be fine to play.

Awesome news.

Also sounds like he’s not super pissed that they didn’t cancel it sooner.

I stepped away from the internet for an hour and all of a sudden Schefter is talking about 8 teams making the playoffs and the first-round bye being removed for both top seeds?

What is this nonsense? That’s moronic.

Does this fall into the "we always knew the nfl was gonna make it a 16 team playoff field at some point”

Quote

The NFL continues to discuss and deliberate the unfinished Bills-Bengals game from Week 17.

Nothing is official yet. Here’s what we currently know.

Bills-Bengals most likely will not be played. The players don’t want to do it. And there’s no good way to fit it into the schedule.

The best bad solution in this regard would be to play the NFC wild-card round and Bills-Bengals next weekend, with the AFC wild-card round being played the next weekend. This would wipe out the week between the conference championships and the Super Bowl. There’s no appetite for that approach.

The question then becomes seeding the AFC playoffs without Bills-Bengals. Winning percentage becomes the most obvious method. But there are concerns about equity, given that the winner of the Bills-Bengals game would have been in position to be one of the top seed AFC seeds.

One possibility would be to add an eighth team to the playoff field in the AFC. This would eliminate the bye for the No. 1 seed.

To ensure competitive balance, there would have to be eight teams in the NFC, too.

The NFL Players Association would have to agree to a temporary expansion of the playoff field.

Discussions also are continuing on the possibility of making the AFC Championship a neutral-site game. The problem with this approach is that if, for example, a team other than the Bills, Chiefs, or Bengals qualifies for the game, there’s no need to use a neutral site.

However it plays out, a decision needs to be made soon — especially if the playoff field will unexpectedly grow, in both conferences. It changes the dynamics for the teams vying for playoff positioning.

I tried to tell ya, nothing good is associated with "equity"

Spoiler

Obviously not the same type of equity we just spoke about so I'm half kidding, but anyway, yeah, anything with the word equity in it in any form always leads to the dumbest thing possible.

Lets have every team make the playoffs!

would be the equitable thing to do.  Quick, get Lesly Slayton Brown on the phone to get her advice.

That sounds like communism to me!

Now you’re on the list

If they remove the 1st round bye they better announce it soon so we know if its worth playing Hurts or not.

I tried to do that, but when I go to the website and enter in my info it keeps saying "patient not found" and I have no idea why. I would write a check, but I'm out of them and don't feel like going out and getting more and using one for such a small amount anyway.

You're now deceased.

The NFL has an interesting opportunity to flip a narrative here.

The pervasive story was the football is too unsafe to be viable or ethical long term.  Now they can boast that their extreme investment in high end safety for the players saved a life in the event of a 1 in a million unlucky disaster.

It really is remarkable what the resources they have invested in player safety were able to do.  There’s a lot of expertise on those sidelines and it all worked the way it was supposed to.

Great idea.....let's just leave out the Colts though.  They don't deserve it.

Not a bad idea.  Kind of like I said earlier about no one knowing about all the good Demar Hamlin does.  This could be an opportunity to showcase the investments made and what they can accomplish.  Take this opportunity to uncover all of the good.
