Covey can hold.

I think Covey is more likely to be released in ten minutes than he is to be the holder on Sunday.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

The downside is an injury to Elliot doing something that he doesn't normally do, and then we go into the playoffs with a new placekicker and punter.

Also, Dicker the Kicker is no longer available.

Once upon a time, Andy Reid had this similar thought process on... what's the REAL downside of having Greg Lewis be the punt returner?  We know how that turned out, don't we?

Simple answer... you don't screw around with ST.  It costs you in the long run.

Huge difference between using Lewis as a punt returner and Elliot as a punter ... frequency and skillset match to the required task.

Further, what set of circumstances is likely to produce an injury to Elliot.

You are avoiding risk in a situation that has no statistically meaningful risk.

Covey has already been the Holder for the Eagles this season.

What is the REAL downside of having Elliot punt and Covery hold?  There is imaginary downside I agree, but the real risk of any meaningful downside is less than 0.001%.

If the Eagles are lining up on the last play of a playoff game for a must-make 45+ yard FG, I will have very real concerns with Covey holding the ball for the kick.

That may be true for one game, but we aren't going into the playoffs with a place kicker as our punter, so if we have to add a guy to the roster after this week, i am not sure I see the benefit of waiting.

You clearly do not understand the NFL rulebook.  Practice Squad elevations are reset to zero for all players once the Playoffs start, and in addition there is no limitation to the number of elevations a Practice Squad player can have during the entire duration of the Playoffs.

There is no need to have Covey hold for kicks in the Playoffs.  Kern elevated from the Practice Squad will be the holder during the Playoffs.  Covey holding is only a one game proposition ... tomorrow.

That is correct.  The sky is blue.

As would be their body of work

Agreed, but investing in a 25 year old is a far different affair. Richardson specifically has generational talent. If you coach him up and he looks good in 3-5 starts per year, someone will take the chance.

What worries me is that we is that we’re gonna have to change the entire offense for the playoffs once Hurts comes back. If we are running RPO and letting the defense dictate our reads, then they’re just gonna force Jalen to run the ball every time by making that the correct read and gonna get hits on him. What was our bread and butter, will now be a recipe for Re-injury. I’m hoping they’re working on how to run an offense that allows our QB to use his new found throwing ability and a traditional run game. Only use RPO in the redzone or in crucial moments.

Just laughing at the idea of Covey being the holder in such a high leverage game

@LeanMeanGM

Probably about ten yards net negative per punt. Assuming you punt four times in a game, that's forty yards you're giving the other team. That's not insignificant. And it's surely more than 0.001%.

Like I have said all along, I would have been okay with that if the Eagles were playing a game that didn't matter. But that's not the case. You cannot have Elliott as your punter in a game that your playoffs are riding on.

Question on Kern.  Could they release him on Monday and then add him to the practice squad for unlimited call ups during the playoffs?

Seems like this shouldn’t be allowed.

Maybe Covey can play some linebacker for a week with Shaun Bradley on IR.

Now is not the time to preserve Jalen. This is the time of year where you're willing to put him at risk a little bit. They should run the offense the same way they've ran it all year.

Interesting that miami tried to sign Davis Webb to its roster, but he elected to stay with the Giants. An indication he will likely play tomorrow.

Richardson is a mid-round prospect, at best.  Woefully inaccurate with the football and he’s not dynamic running with it

Did Siposs get injured in a situation that had no statistically meaningful risk?

What has been the typical number of Eagles punts over the past 6 weeks? ... 6, 0, 2, 2, 5, 1  I would rather put pressure on the Offesive Coordinator to put together a game plan that minimizes (ideally eliminates) the need for punts.

However, all this What If discussion is moot, because they brought Kern up to the 53-man roster.
