McNabb had double digit rushes in exactly TWO games in his entire career.  TWO.

Hurts has 15 double digit rushing games already.   Hurts ran NINE times today, in a game that it was clear that the message to him was to avoid running at all costs.

Just not even close to a comparison that can be used.

Different type of offense; that’s for sure.  But the end result would be similar if (or when) they adjust the offense for Hurts to run less, etc.  But that also has a lot to do with Hurts’ development as a passer, etc.

Lol I came in here to see if you guys knew wtf he was doing

I'm not on the big back bandwagon.  I think, with this OL (when it is intact) plus Sanders, that Gainwell and Scott are enough to round out the rotation.

If Sanders walks (which I think is the right move)...then I think we need to do better than Gainwell/Scott.  Presumably the new starter is going to be a pretty explosive rookie, but not a slam dunk 1st round pick.  That means the depth in the stable needs a bit of an upgrade, IMO.  If you go in the backyard and shake a tree hard enough, some serviceable RBs will fall out.

Four scrambles, 1 sneak, and 4 kneel-downs.  But keep going...

1-10-NYG 39 (11:53) (Shotgun) J.Hurts scrambles right end ran ob at NYG 38 for 1 yard (J.Davis)
2-7-PHI 23 (5:23) (Shotgun) J.Hurts scrambles right end ran ob at PHI 31 for 8 yards (R.Williams).
2-1-50 (3:03) (Shotgun) J.Hurts scrambles right end pushed ob at NYG 47 for 3 yards (J.Davis)
1-10-PHI 26 (:02) J.Hurts kneels to PHI 25 for -1 yards
1-10-PHI 40 (8:21) (No Huddle, Shotgun) J.Hurts scrambles right tackle to PHI 43 for 3 yards (D.Belton; J.Davis)
3-1-NYG 22 (6:34) J.Hurts up the middle to NYG 20 for 2 yards (T.Fox)
1-10-NYG 43 (1:37) J.Hurts kneels to NYG 44 for -1 yards.
2-11-NYG 44 (:57) J.Hurts kneels to NYG 45 for -1 yards.
3-12-NYG 45 (:38) J.Hurts kneels to NYG 46 for -1 yards.

He has missed two straight games once in his entire football career. He has missed 3 games in the last 38 games as a starter. Not much of an injury concern to me. But that’s my opinion.

But odds? The odds of finding a replacement that will be better than he has been are very low. Look around the league. A lot of teams have QB issues. The grass isn’t always greener.

You think the more his body takes punishment he's going to be less likely to be injured because he's running?

True.  Grass isn't always greener.   And part of this is also to have him play TWO seasons like this, rather than just pay him based on one.  Is it reproducible?  What happens next year when NFL DCs have a full offseason to study him and make adjustments?  Does he have what it takes to adjust to that or does his effectiveness get compromised?   I'm not a fan of giving a super-mega deal for any player based on a single standout year.

Yes, I edited.   I missed the end of the first half and second half, so I posted on the number of runs before checking if there were kneel downs involved.  None the less, he's running WAY too much for my comfortable, today's 5 rushes not withstanding.

According to Jason Garrett the Cowboys are 1-4 on grass ^_^

Agreed.  And I hate that.  But neither qualifies as a short yardage or power back either, which is what I said was the need, not just a backup RB.

My guy to replace Sanders would be the RB out of UCLA. Zach Charbonnet.

Dude is a lethal N-S runner that just has the makings of a great NFL RB. Breaks tackles. Can catch out of the backfield. Good blocker.

Will be there late RD2

(Bad coaching decision, IMO.)  That's true for McNabb too.  His 11 carry game, 3 were kneel downs.  So, we can eliminate one of those double digit games as truly double digits.

Just not even close to a comparison that can be used.

Pomegranates? You just couldn’t say oranges and be normal could you…

I’m excited to see DeVonta in the playoffs. He was a big time player in college in big games and it feels like he’s in a good rhythm right now. He might end up being the show-stopper for them.

I will go off trends. The DCs in the NFL had all last offseason to study him and he got better. He has got better every year. You have to pay him this offseason or trade him. The money/asset loss of not doing either will really hurt this team.

And he is 24. A 4 year extension will be fine. Every position in the NFL besides kicker and punter take more body abuse even with his running.

So much depends on all the permutations in how Howie attacks the offseason.

If Bradberry and Sanders both walk, the Eagles will be looking to the draft for 3 immediate starter needs...right side of OL, outside CB, and RB.  It's tough to hand those responsibilities to anything less than a 2nd round pick.  So trading down may be off the table.

He didn't miss many game because of the ankle last year but he literally said it affected him the rest of the way. So while he didn't miss any games, the injury affected his play which affected the team (as seen when they got eviscerated by Tampa in the playoffs)

If it bothers you, you can just scroll past.

But, I didn't go with oranges, to highlight the difference in the comparison.  Pomegranates are not readily available year round, whereas apples and oranges both are.  The NFL hasn't seen a QB running at the frequency and as a power runner ever.   Hurts finished 2nd all-time in rushes to only Lamar Jackson's 2019.  And he only fell short due to missing two games.  He was on pace to beat that record, and unlike Jackson, he welcomes contact and takes it on much more.  McNabb didn't.  He wasn't a runner who would put his shoulder down and try to run over people.  He wasn't a guy that Andy would use as a battering ram on countless 4th downs.   The comparison to McNabb is not even remotely close in terms of how they were used.  Reid encouraged the scrambling when it was needed, but didn't rely heavily on him as a primary ball carrier.  He never exceeded 12 carries in a game... ever.   Hurts has hit or exceeded 15 carries 8 times already.  That's dramatically different.

All that says is we’ve never had an alltime QB. Sometimes good enough just isn’t good enough

You could say the same about AJ Brown. I’d be disappointed if he wasn’t way better than Mike Quick

Truth

Everything in the draft will hinge on where Howie prioritizes FA $

His and the lions offensive numbers on the road and at home  are pretty drastic. It’s why i wouldn’t rule out they try to make a trade up for young or stroud

I am willing to bet every QB has nagging injuries that affect their play at some point in every season.

McNabb would likely have at least a ring (maybe more) had they valued the WR position at any point (other than the TO year) during his career.   The one year he actually had a true #1 receiver he made it to the Super Bowl.

Imagine McNabb with this offense.   👀
