Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

Meh. For the most part, this has been the best LB play we’ve seen since 2017 and probably in decades. We can come up with more reasonable excuses for Dean (oh plus he was a 3rd pick, not a first).

I don't mind giving JD low snaps with him coming off a high ankle sprain. The guys in front of him are playing well enough that they don't have to rush him back. Next year will be more telling when they're (most likely) not back.

His snap count was pretty low before the high ankle sprain as well, and there weren't any guys in front of him.  A bit disappointing.   I'm not burying the guy, but he clearly has a lot of work ahead of him for this up coming offseason.

Dallas should beat Tampa. They're better and healthier.

That said, McCarthy vs. Bowles is the worst coaching matchup of the playoffs. One of them will do something that costs them the game.

Watch i bet Dean has to have surgery in the offseason

I obviously didn't watch a ton of Lions games but just noticed Hutchinson finished with

52 total tackles
3 pass deflections
3 interceptions
2 fumble recoveries
9.5 sacks

Pretty impressive.  Did Jacksonville make the wrong pick with Walker?

While a decent year I am getting a little worried about GA defenders (Dean, Davis, Walker)

Im not really worried about Davis or Dean at all. It would be different if they didn't have good veterans in front of them.

Davis is strong and powerful and we saw that translate, but his fitness and technique needed work.  What better situation to be in for his development than having HOF and Pro Bowl level veterans in front of him.

Less so with the veterans in the way for Dean, but again we've seen him flash his abilities to diagnose plays, penetrate, and get sideline to sideline. But White had a good year, and its not an immediate need to get Dean on the field.  Does anyone really fear Dean having to play extended minutes?  I don't.

Both can play, its a luxury that they're able to sit and watch.

Snap counts:

I wonder about Jordan Davis. I thought we'd be seeing more of him by now but he only played 8 snaps on defense.

Kid stunk like a bust the whole draft process to me. He was surrounded by great talent on that Georgia D and specifically that line. I don’t think he will ever be more than a JAG.

He’s the 6th DT on the roster and they had to play starters all game long.

Unless there are injuries at DT, he’s not going to play.

And the more vulnerable the secondary looks, the more passing formations the defense will see, the less he’ll play.  He’s only going to play a handful of snaps in the playoffs.

He was supposed to be the #3 this year, but he plummeted down the depth chart.  They’ll ask more of him next year.

Who’s HOF level?

I think you are viewing this through green-tinted glasses. Our current LBs have been serviceable at best and are the weakest unit on the defense. I would have hoped for more snaps out of Davis.

I would feel worse about Davis' future, if Gannon wasn't going to be the HC of the Texans next year.

Different body type and playing style, but Bunkley seems like a good comparison.  Immense physical gifts, total washout of a rookie year, eventually makes it as a reasonable starter, but never really becomes disruptive enough to justify draft status.

A similar trajectory feels likely for Davis.

Dude, you don’t know who our HOF LB’ers are

Should we be concerned about Quay Walker being a roid-rage guy? (Sorry that you'll have to follow the links to Youtube...)

Ejected for shoving a coach on the sidelines on SNF in Oct.

Ejected for shoving an athletic trainer last night on SNF.

He's the only player ejected twice this season... and twice for something so ridiculously stupid.  I remember Bill Romanowski did a lot of stuff similar (though he usually focused on the opposing players, not the coaches/staff).   For me... that would be reason enough to have him 'randomly' tested.    Or maybe SNF just brings out the worst in him.

Great comparison

The problem is that the first round pick is #6 on the depth chart.

Davis was drafted to be the first DT off the bench as a rookie and is now behind 2 guys that weren’t on the week 1 roster plus Williams.

I think he meant the DTs….but my question remains. Nobody on our defense is HOF bound at this point in their careers.

I thought he was drafted to be the first NT in the game, as a rookie and beyond.

If they invest millions in keeping Hargrave or Cox, that will be telling about Davis.

If you have to spend big money on an over 30 FA that keeps your 1st round pick out of the starting lineup (when you’ve got lots of other roster moves to make), then you know everything you need to know about Davis.

If they let the aging DTs walk, then I’ll be more hopeful about his future.

Just follow the money and we’ll know what they really expect from him.

Dallas favored by 3 on the road in Tampa is hilarious

Not really. The Bucs are bad. I'm not saying the Cowboys are a lock to win the game, but they have to be favored by a decent amount.

This.

TBF, it is what happened before he got hurt and we signed a HOFamer and a very solid pro.

We should also not resign Hargrave OR Cox. Let them both walk and take the comp picks. Howie will resign one of them, because that's what he does.

If they let them both walk, then then it tells you they haven’t lost faith in Davis.  If Howie turns himself into a pretzel with DT signings that pencil in Davis as the #4 DT for 2023, then we know where the expectations are.
