So when college football inevitably fails do we see high school kids make the jump straight to the NFL

It will cause the collapse of high school football as all 100,000 kids will play for the same 4 high schools.

I don't see college football 'failing' as a whole, but I see it as probably shrinking, at least at the DI-A level (or FBS).

Reagor at the national championship game pretty much put the nail in the coffin for TCU

How did the rest of the bowls do?

Most of the rest of the bowls really don’t care about TV.  They get the same payment from the networks regardless of the ratings.  And hotel and restaurant revenues don’t care about TV ratings either.

I made a post yesterday that there are at least 4 CBs who are going to be on the Board at that time plus the two OTs.  I don’t think either of the OTs are going to thrill Stoutland, so I expect Howie to trade down and eventually take a late 1st round CB or a D-lineman like Foskey or the Baylor DT.  They may have their eye yes on Carter, the Army DE in the 2nd though.

I like Paris johnson Jr the tackle at OSU. Obvious don’t know how the eagles feel or stoutland feels about him. he’s athletic. I believe can play guard until Lane retires and then kick out to RT. I’d love to extend seumalo but i think with stoutland still coaching and can’t pay everyone that the eagles likely think they can fill that spot with a more cost effective plan. Wish JR was still on here cause I’d ask him his thoughts on Paris Johnson

Football is more like baseball than basketball.  The players need some seasoning

Let's go ahead and treat the players as employees and not require them to go to be enrolled as students.  That would be the most honest setup.  They can sign contracts with termination clauses that provide some level of restriction and commitment to their employer.  Maybe they can be prevented from transferring within the conference or something like that as well.

If they don't want to go that route then they can enroll as students on scholarship and play to a different set of rules but with more liberty on xfers, etc.

Since we got a bye week and time off before knowing our opponent, who does everyone see us taking at 10 or what we are gonna do with that pick. I think it is more likely they trade back a couple spots to acquire some middle round picks and still get a player that they like. But if we’re sitting at 10 based off what I’ve seen in mocks (way too early), I kind of think they’re go cornerback, because slay is going to be 32 and Bradberry’s likely gone. Also I could see one of the offensive tackles being selected.  you move him into right guard as i unfortunately think seumalo leaves. when lane Johnson retire to shift him back out to right tackle.

Based on the current draft order the Eagles pick at 10, 32, 64, 96, 221, and 251.  A lot depends on how Howie and committee see the depth of the draft class.  They have no Day 3 picks until the 7th round, but Howie said last year they view some UFAs as similar to Round 5-7 picks.

My guess is they really would like a CB and OG, as you said.  They also need a DE.  The current Tankathon mock has 5 DL/EDGE players going in the first 8 picks but we shall see.  Their historical M.O. would indicate OL/DL with their first pick.

I don't think many QBs go early.  Stroud and Young are likely in the top 5 but after that it could be awhile.  This QB draft class has not distinguished themselves well.

FYP

I think we're finally going to start to see some pushback from GMs on the new QB deals coming up. All of these deals were awful and when it usually went "Well this guy got paid this so the next guy should get more" type of escalation, I think that stops. The Watson deal was such an outlier with the guarantees and I think that's been the big issue with why Lamar hasn't signed yet, plus him not having a real agent. Burrow and Herbert will be the interesting ones, but I think they go more the Mahomes/Allen route.

That isn't a sustainable setup.  Long term they will need the eyeballs to keep network payments and advertiser payments at current levels.

Had a thought without thinking too much into it.

If McVay retires, which he likely does, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Rams sell. Guys like Kupp & Ramsey could bring them back some first round picks, obviously Donald too but not sure if Donald stays in the league if McVay retires.

Without looking into cap implications, Would you part with one of our firsts for Jalen Ramsey?

You are equating professional sports to 'amateur' sports.  Also, the 'Big Show' has their own minor league affiliates, and the players on those teams are under contract (be it a minor league contract, though some players have two-way deals).  Very very very few players move from the independent minor league teams up to the Big Leagues.

And then there's the 'academic' piece that matters with the NCAA.  They are 'under scholarship' to a school and are supposed to be taking a minimum class load, ideally, leading to a degree.

All true, but that doesn’t change my point that the improvement of the players is the overwhelming contributor to any improvement in the game.  The rest is just evolution of the packaging of those players.  My alma mater Cornell has always packaged bot it’s players and it’s sports differently than Georgia or Alabama or Penn State

You think that's going to continue?   I don't think the networks are that stupid.  If they can't recoup their investment (and that's what it is) in advertising during the broadcast, they have no incentive to air the games.  So, they will lower their offers, and the money will diminish greatly.

So no one cares about tv ratings?  Does that include sponsors?

We don't have the room to take on his base salary for next year.

Not a chance.  He was a much better CB in Jacksonville; he looks lazy and disinterested at times with the Rams.

Eagles recent receiving leaders...

2022 - AJ Brown - 1,496 yards
2021 - DeVonta Smith - 916
2020 - Travis Fulgham - 539

The dude will forever be in the franchise's record book.

We were so desperate for receivers that if you caught the ball we were happy lol

I think Burrow and Herbert may do one of those 10 year contracts since they're still very young

You are looking at the bowls with a limited view… as individual businesses.  For me the real reason for a bowl is from the community view.  That perspective was formed by my experience with the Liberty Bowl in Memphis and the Senior Bowl in Mobile.  There is a reason that San Francisco has never fielded a meaningful bowl … the community and its businesses has no interest in doing so.

No sir.

Looking at the draft for CB2.

That will become CB1.

And what is the consequence of that?  The TV money is gravy.  The tourism money is the main course.

That has nothing to do with the post you just quoted.  TV ratings impact advertising which impacts what networks will end up paying for new tv contracts for the bowls.  Community or no community.

Having said that, bowls are individual businesses in any case.  They have relationships with the communities for sure but they aren't owned by them.  Am I mistaken about that part?

I'm not sure the QB salaries will stop escalating or even sit static anytime soon, but some organization will be the first to simply let a QB walk to free agency.  Could be Baltimore with Jackson's annual injuries now.

The TV advertisers care, but most of them are external to the bowl’s community.  Local sponsors may care, but it depends on who their audience is.  Most local sponsors are speaking locally not nationally

No you are not mistaken but for the majority of the bowls the revenues added to the local tourism economy far exceeds their TV revenues.
